Mankind's true moral test, its fundamental test (which lies deeply
buried from view), consists of its attitude towards those who are at its
mercy: animals. And in this respect mankind has suffered a fundamental
debacle, a debacle so fundamental that all others stem from it. -Milan
Kundera, novelist, playwright, and poet (b. 1 Apr 1929)
Thank you for your message. I am glad that you are keeping up. I just spent a couple of hours in my garden. It is a weird timeless existence. What day of the week is it? Hour of the day? It would be good to be a monk, a nun, a hermit. I remember visiting a hermit on a hike when I was young in Lapland. The hermit did not stop talking all the time we were there! But this is a kind of a forced silent retreat. Maybe we all needed this ”correction”? My life was so full of first world problems, like, how many overseas trips can I fit into a calendar year? How many outings in a week? Now, there is nothing. No plans either. I was to leave for Japan on a two week hike this Sunday....
I have been baking bread, I have some friends ”as clients”. I also read a lot, study online (my SFU classes are cancelled). Luckily, my French online classes carry on using Zoom meetings. I discovered yoga online and find it very good. I might never go back to the studio even when they open. I think life will be fundamentally different, once this virus madness is over. Becoming a vegetarian has crossed my mind...this industrial food production is clearly a culprit for the viruses emerging from the huge animal factories. I try not to get too depressed about it all but being alone is quite tough. Please stay in touch and stay healthy. Keep cycling. Liisa From my cycling on Sunday.
Hi Hermit Nun Bread Maker! Terrific to hear from you, Liisa! Do you do home delivery from the cloisters of your Priory! Lady Dar would like to order a dozen loaves of gluten-free sourdough! Your snap of the roses is wonderful! Sorry to hear about your cancelled trips. Sorry, as well, to know you are experiencing such loneliness. You must really be depressed if you are considering becoming a vegetarian! Do I have the poem for you:
I am giving up drinking for a month./Sorry, bad punctuation./I am giving up. Drinking for a month.
I chortled uproariously when I first read the poem which former colleague at UBC Library, Jo-Anne Naslund, sent. Must away to start on the avocadoe and tomatoe salad I'm making for dinner. Lady Dar will bake a turkey breast to have with yams. Fondestos from her, currently online, involved with another member of Oasis in setting up a Zoom account for church, to you Liisa. Stay well. Best wishes and Cheers, Patrizzio!

Lady Dar just left to go over to Chloƫ's place as she will go for a walk with her and Rowan James, using his fancy-smancy pram. I had planned to head out for another ride after I'd had a bite of lunch. Wasn't sure where I'd point my Trek as forecast looked rather daunting, wind out of the NNE at 27 km/h, gusting to 37 km/h! As it turned out I headed straight to the bedroom to read! Then a power nap! Think this might become my daily exercise program, Dear Reader!
For her part, Lady Dar is online, in Rumpus Room, involved with another member of Oasis in setting up a Zoom account for church. Don't have to worry about physical distancing anyway. Perhaps we'll take to talking to each other with this relatively new digital tool!
Video clip: Like Poppa, Rowan James has a daily exercise regimen. Caught on camera this morning while doing his tummy exercises for neck strengthening and the like. [Actually suggested by community health nurse as part of aiding normal development. How did our children make it?] He turned himself over a few days ago but Mom missed the first flip! I've already enrolled him in wrestling classes and had Summer Olympics not been cancelled I'm sure he would have come away with a Gold Medal.
A Simple Face Mask Solution!!! From Hans, a novel way to protect our selves from a novel virus:) [That is too funny...Rush and get more Calvin Kleins before those shelves get empty… never mind toilet paper, masks are more important!!! I showed Rita, then she went shopping. How is everyone holding up? William A Laven (Bill) Hello Naramatia! Terrific to hear from you, even if attachment wasn't attached. Fondestos from Lady Dar to you, Witless Bill, {her words, not mine!], and The Lovely Rita. Stay well in your Calvin Kleins. Cheers, Patrizzio!
Six little stories. Stay well everyone! R. Hi Roma! Terrific to hear from you. Enjoyed stories. Fondestos from Lady Dar to you and Leonard. Stay well yourselves. Cheers, Patrizzio!
A Simple Face Mask Solution!!! I think this is what you are looking for:) William A Laven (Bill) Dear William A Laven: Have you just been appointed CEO of The Best Exotic Naramata Craft Distillery? Hence the very formal "signature". Or is this simply another rung on the social ladder, trying to reach royals such as Lady Dar, Dame Judith, and the like, the hoi aristoi of Penticton! Thanks for sending along clip. An interesting take on both face masks, for medical safety, and the burqa, where East, (Mohamed), meets West, (Calvin)! What would E.M. Forster have to say about this collision? All the best to Duchess Rita, your Excellency! Cheers, 'umble Patrizzio! Pics: Lady Dar "Zooming", in her pajamas!
