MarraigeMobile Mules Carloads of Firewood Blues: Thursday, October 26th!

The worst thing that can happen in a democracy -- as well as in an individual's life -- is to become cynical about the future and lose hope: that is the end, and we cannot let that happen. -Hillary Clinton, secretary of state and senator (b. 26 Oct 1947)

Buongiorno Gioco a Ponte Players! Thanks for the rousing and rowdy bidding last night, Summerlandians and Middle Bencher! Fabulous Pinot Grigio, Barbarella, and divine dessert, Michaelo! Consensus seems to be that Wednesday, of next week, is best evening for play. Please let me know your thoughts and we'll plan accordingly. Cheers, Patrizzio! Pics: The Brotherhood en route to tro ncing The Sisterhood, for a change! Patrick, I can play Bridge next Wednesday.I am sorry I will miss bridge this week also 🙊wishing all good cards Judy

Have been quite busy ever since returning home. Spent much of today muling firewood, here in town, from the neighbour of a neighbour who gave me three loads last year, as well as one load from Spiller Road. When there I saw a lovely grouse, of some sort, seemingly not at all bothered by me and my wheel-barrow full of firewood. Its colouration was such that I probably would not have seen it was it not for the clucking it made in the tall, dry grass next to the path I was using. What a treat to see such beauty and vitality little more than an arm's length away. Further blessed with gorgeous days so it was pleasant enough work, all around.

Fight The Memorial Arena Blustery Blues: Wednesday, October 25th!

The doctrine which, from the very first origin of religious dissensions, has been held by bigots of all sects, when condensed into a few words and stripped of rhetorical disguise, is simply this: I am in the right, and you are in the wrong. When you are the stronger, you ought to tolerate me, for it is your duty to tolerate truth; but when I am the stronger, I shall persecute you, for it is my duty to persecute error. -Thomas Babington Macaulay, poet, historian, and politician (25 Oct 1800-1859)

… and yes, there is dog hair under the bed sheet.
Thank you Branko for a fun evening of food, wine and bridge! Thank you for hosting and for for cooking that delicious lamb!! Great to see everyone again. Hope you wound your way home OK Ed. And Pat, thanks of organizing once again...great to catch up...oh and hope that the shoe rack was still there this morning! Cheers. Janet Thanks Branco, I have to agree with everything that Janet has said. Thanks Janet for the great dessert and Pat for coming into town. Lots of fun. Till the next time. Ed

Gang, Yes it was fun. Thank you all. Janet, you are on permanent dessert duty! We should try to do do this again, as there are 3 of us, (without the Pentictonian), and I am sure we can scare up a 4th … although I don’t know how we will fare without Patrizzio’s essential colour commentary! Anyway, ’til next time! I am on dog sitting duty the rest of the week - 4 kids aged 27-39, no grand kids, just one dog - but an awesome one! Branko

Hello Mutual Admiration Society Members! I echo Ragin's phrase, "Belated Response", inasmuch as I must apologize for not sending along my thanks, sooner, for fabulous evening, more than scrumptious, wonderfully delectable dinner, delish, delish dessert and wine/Bourbon aplenty. However, I cannot say that the Bridge Gods smiled upon me, preferring Freewheelin' Fast Eddy above all! It didn't help matters that my various partners seemed to act in concert to prevent me from making any contracts, thereby elevating Corky to Numero Uno! Alack and Alas!!!

Still, I may well have an opportunity to wreak vengeance during the week of November 8th. I have a medical appointment that day and will probably drive into Vancouver on November 7th so if you folk would like to play again, let me know which evening might work best and we can take things from there.

All went well on drive back home. Highway was clear although there was some snow on the shoulders, mainly around Manning Park. Sunny and lovely Fall colours, of course. Thanks very much for ride home, Penguin. Back oat Burns, Chloë was absolutely chuffed with shoe rack and sends her thanks, Janet.

Must away as I've a load of firewood to collect from a friend here in town. How I miss Ragin''s truck, [Not Ragin' and his malt swillin' ways, I hasten to add!], to transport such a load. Fondestos from Lady Dar, to one and all. Cheers, Il Conduttore! Pics: Ragin' Bull's Restaurant and Bridge Parlour; Duke and Etta taking care of Lady Dar last night! All she needs now is Juno! Shoe rack already put to use!

Had not been riding for more than a week although I did use the ellipitizer at the FCCC for all but a few days while we were volunteering at the VWF. As we didn't reach home until close to 6:00 pm, yesterday, I needed to do quite a few household chores, once back, so I wasn't able to head out until just after 2:00 pm. It was fairly breezy with the wind, blowing pretty steadily, out of the S at around 18 kph, perhaps slightly more when gusting. We were hosting bridge this evening so I knew I had to be back around 5:00 pm to be ready for the gang. Furthermore, there were really dark, angry clouds gathering in the west, over Summerland, so I wondered if rain was in the offing. Turned out to be so and I'd only been on the road for about twenty minutes when the drops started. Never really poured, more of a heavy, steady mist but the wind was chilly so I was pleased I had worn full gloves and my rain jacket, which not only kept me dry but cut the bite of the blasts to ensure I was comfortably toasty.

Had toyed with heading into the wind, to OK Falls, once I'd completed the PTC/Lakeshore/Riverside Loop but once the rain started I didn't feel like facing Eastside Rd in case the heavens really opened. This being the case I concentrated on gerbilizing on the Power Street Loop and then when that circuit had allowed me to chalk up about 21 km I turned my attention to the Memorial Arena Loop and was pleased that the rain stopped on the first hamster loop. Logged almost two-thirds of the required distance there until I could head down Westminster, partially sheltered from increasingly strong gusts, to wend my way to White. Roads had dried out nicely by then and I only needed a few dispsy doodles on two of the side streets before Burns before I pulled into the back lane. Home in plenty of time to shower and change before the card sharks started to arrive. Map and Stats for ride:

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/2193579823#.WfFnxNKEQH4.email

Olga Polga was first to arrive, followed shortly by Madcap Michaelo who brought along a delicious Black Forest-like cake. Great to see him as he has been away for most of the summer so he had not played with us for months. Barbarella was last to knock on the door and then we sat down to draw for partners. [Lady Dar had plenty to do with her Caroling for a Cause Grandmothers for Africa project so she was not fussed about not playing.] After four hands we switch and after three rounds we tallied scores to see who would play last round. Madcap and I were top scorers so we, as "winners", took on the "losers". Had all the cards again so The Sisterhood were whining and whingeing. To put balm on their wounded egos I included them in bridge prizes: containers of turkey soup I'd made the day before! No complaints now and everyone went home with smiles on their faces.

Dear Food & Beverage Crew Captains: THANK YOU SO MUCH for serving as crew captains on F&B this year, especially with changes in staffing along with those in F&B service and organization. While events are still fresh in our minds, this is the best time to pass on any feedback you have about our just-concluded 30th Vancouver Writers Fest!

Anything you can share about what went well with volunteers and the staff you worked with, what was challenging, what can be improved… all that is welcome now. If there were particular volunteers who you feel aren’t suited in the role you observed and oversaw them in, let me know. Also if there were particular volunteers who impressed you and who might be usefully directed to leadership positions in future festivals, let me know that as well.

If there are changes/adjustments you’d like to see in terms of numbers of vols needed per shift, reporting time and shift end time, as well as shift duties and staff liaison, please write it down now and let me know!

And if there’s anything else which Michelle and I can do to improve how volunteers serve the festival and F&B’s set-up/strike needs for coming years, let me know that as well. THE SOONER THE BETTER, as always. If at all possible please submit any feedback no later than Monday Oct 30th. I’ll be starting my final report soon and really count on getting feedback from crew captains to write the best and most helpful report I can so we can best plan for next  year.  Kathryn

As a Crew Captain for the Brunch and Tea I must say that I was extremely embarrassed at the food and drink which was offered for a not insignificant price. I would not pay the cost of the ticket for such events. I cannot believe that the VWF would short-change its patrons by serving such a minuscule amount of homous, per esempio. Tubs of it are available for next to nothing! Baby Duck for sparkling wine with OJ! I used to drink BD when I was five years old! The carrots, cauliflower and celery were fine as far as vegetables go, but cannot the VWF do better? Why not make the event something to be proud of? Further to this, why serve wine, for most of the events, in small plastic containers? [If the VWF cannot afford glasses, let patrons know that they should bring their own wine glasses. Make it more of a party and picnic atmosphere] This is simply ridiculous. The Festival is nickle-and-diming its way into extinction if this is the policy that is deemed to be the one to follow. People want to enjoy themselves and the authors/readings do just that but the ambience is critically important as well. I believe that every event, to the extent possible, should be a gala affair, and spending not all that much more, in terms of budget, will make it a far more enjoyably experience for festival goers and probably make them wish to return. I overheard numerous comments by disgruntled guests who were extremely upset with the fare provided. This has nothing to do with the managers responsible for the menu, as delivered. As I understand it, severe budgetary constraints limited what was to be offered. If it is felt that the Brunch and Tea are too expensive for the VWF to host, well and good. However, if these events are to continue, do not short-change patrons who come expecting value-for-money.

The VWF has a magic formula with its authors, setting and volunteers. However, patrons must be considered. From my perspective they were offered a shocking disservice, in terms of the the fare proffered, for both the Brunch and Tea this year. Why? To what end? Life is far too, too short to drink Baby Duck! Finally, perhaps a cafeteria style service might work better for the dispensing of food at the Brunch and Tea so that "expensive" items could be better monitored if the Budget Police are overly fussed about costs. In fact, the majority of people will not abuse the offerings so rest easy, Bottom Liners! I certainly wish the Festival well, but as a long-time volunteer, I am extremely unhappy about the direction the Festival seems to have taken. Any endeavour takes an inordinate amount of time and energy to bring to fruition but don't believe that this will happen if purse strings are tightened to a degree which makes no sense and renders the body politic a shade of what it ought to be. Onward! Fight!!!

Sunshine Valley Folk Sing The Imperial Blues: Tuesday, October 24th!

Inspiration does not come like a bolt, nor is it kinetic, energetic striving, but it comes into us slowly and quietly and all the time, though we must regularly and every day give it a little chance to start flowing, prime it with a little solitude and idleness. -Brenda Ueland, journalist, editor, and writer (24 Oct 1891-1985)

Hello Long Abandoned Bridge Orphans! Trust everyone is well, wherever and whatever you are doing/have been doing. Lady Dar and I will be back in Penticton later today, after a wonderful week at the VWF, listening to an incredible array of authors read and discuss their work. Had a great deal of fun seeing many friends and even managed to play bridge last night while Lady Dar attended her book club, here in town. Unfortunately, for me, the Bridge Gods didn't smile on my hands so I had to drown my sorrows in some of the wine we muled from the Okanagan!

At any rate, we are interested in playing this week and Wednesday and Thursday are the nights we have free. We are happy to host if there is interest enough. So let me know your thoughts and we'll plan accordingly. Fondestos from Lady Dar, lolling on the living room couch, reading one of the books we acquired this past week, while I am charged with loading the car! Cheers, Baggage Handler Patrizzio!

Pics: Sunday afternoon, with Bill Richardson, [He is also from Winnipeg and Lady Dar was somewhat responsible for him going to Library School when she told him she was off to Vancouver to attend Library School. This planted the seed which then started him, after going to LS himself, on the trajectory which lead him to CBC and becoming an author in his own right.], as riotous host of session. Hal Wake, Artistic Director, now retiring after 12 years. John Boyne, a marvellous, marvellous author and scintillating reader, from Ireland. His latest novel is The Heart's Invisible Furies but you might know him as the author of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. Last night, with Victor, friend who popped by before dinner and bridge, then with card sharks, Ragin' Bull, The Penguin and Fast Eddy!

On our way back home Big Al and Marilyn invited us for brunch, [They are both well and busy, busy, busy!], and they wondered if Ted had been tested for mercury and/or lead poisoning as many of the symptoms point in that direction. Once back home I left a message with Elaine but have not heard back yet.

Hi Patrick Sounds like you had a busy but interesting week. If you need a player for Wednesday or Thursday evening, I would be available. Thanks Barbie
Hi Patrick, Good to hear from you! Glad that you both are enjoying yourself in Vancouver. I am not able to play either nite this week unfortunately but I will see you on Friday for the grandmothers dinner. Travel safe See you soon
Judy Ps it was great to see you In pictures for a change!! Welcome back to sunny Okanagan Patrick and Corinne. As you know we are off on Thursday for the land Down Under, and back on Dec. 4th, to catch up on my bridge skills and friendships. Happy Greetings, Jos and AartWelcome back Corrine and Patrizzio to our beautiful sunny Okanagan! Yes, let's play... I'm in for either Wednesday or Thursday..... whatever work for everyone. Hugs, Olly
Hello Patrick and Corinne, You missed a few crazy windy days, and a few nice sunny, as usual here, so welcome back. As far as a game goes, I am available only on Wednesday. Cheers to all. Mike

Awesome, sounds like we have the game. cheers Mike Hi Patrick, Book Festival sounds great. One of these years I want to attend. If I am feeling up to it Weds is the only night that I can play this week. I had surgery today to correct a deviated septum so I am not sure how I will feel tomorrow night. Currently, I am bleeding from my nose and feeling poopy from the anaesthetic. Safe travels to Penticton. Pamela I'll be there! Thank you Patrizzio for the invite to dinner
but I'll see you at 6:30 since I have a few errands to run after physiotherapy. I'm looking forward to tomorrow night. Hugs, Olly

Hello Bridge Enthusiasts! Thanks for the welcome back. Had a simply marvellous time but it certainly is more than a delight to be home. Great that all of you can play tomorrow so we'll see you here, at Burns Street, anytime after 6:30 pm. Olga Polga, if you are at an appointment, earlier, here in town, you are welcome to come for a bite to eat before bridge. Anyway, looking forward to seeing everyone. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Dear Patrick My sincere apologies for pupping out on you on Sunday. I had worked all day in the garden and I really was aching and exhausted. I am so sorry that I did not push myself to go and visit with you especially when you sounded so positive and upbeat after your Writers Festival volunteering. I sincerely hope you will not be cross with me forever. I do feel badly about it. When I talked with you on Friday I had not expected to engage in such physical work on Sunday and it simply finished me off.

Anyways the old body is seizing up. Hope you are home safe and sound. Say hello to Corrine and thanks so much for having called us. Your aging friend and soon to be retired colleague, Jo-Anne
Hello Pumpkin People! What fabulous carvings, Colin! Lady Dar and Chloë thought they were terrific as well. While we were both sorry not to have a visit on Sunday evening, don't fret about it at all, Marps! I'm never cross with you. We were both tired, ourselves so we just had a bite to eat and opened a couple of bottles of wine and enjoyed watching an episode of The Durrells in Corfu. Enjoyed it immensely. Well, must away Fondestos from Lady Dar and Cheers to you, Jo-Anne, (and your aging frame!), and Colin, Patrizzio!

So great to see you yesterday Pat, thank you for calling me (I almost didn't pick up, thinking it was another lottery scam from a Nigerian prince). As you know, I am usually full of jokes and love to make you the butt of them, but for now I just want to say thank you for our talk yesterday, albeit brief, but I will always keep in mind that "nothing is guaranteed" (as you have always said) and be "overtly generous and perhaps that may tip the scale" (I will take that as a life-long open invitation to raid your malt cabinet whenever I please). And, I also took to heart what you had to say about the decisions we make and knowing the consequences that may stem from them, especially, when it comes to women for us men.

On a separate and more philosophical note, and just curious what your opinion is on this, if nothing is guaranteed in life, then why do we bother to be generous, pleasant and unselfish? We could easily just take and look out for ourselves, and, ultimately, end up with the same results in life as someone who is unselfish and kind. Of course, I believe we should be generous, kind and unselfish, but I went through a period in the past couple of years where I sort of struggled with this question and - not to sound too dramatic - almost went down a darker path as a human being, which I only recently have slowly diverted myself from.

As always, thank you for being you and for your honesty, candor and malt. I love you and please say hello to Corinne and tell her it's a real tragedy I did not get to see her this time around and only got your wet nose and malt-infused hot breath to entertain me. Have a good trip back home and next time I will make sure to bring even cheaper fruit wine to your table With love, VL

Hello Blues Brothers/Designer Shades/Fjord Man! What a delightful visit, albeit not long enough, of course, as you mention! With respect to your philosophical question I think you have misconstrued what I mean when oft I say, "Nothing is guaranteed", inasmuch as what I intend to convey is that simply because life is so precarious, so fragile, often so completely unpredictable that one should, in my opinion, live fully, enjoy, to the extent possible, its remarkable gift of time, the only inestimably precious, ever-diminishing resource we have as sentient beings, always keeping in mind the well-being of oneself, (for you cannot take care of others if you cannot take care of yourself), as well as those around you, in your orbit, whether family or friends, neighbours or newcomers, strangers or passing acquaintances. If one behaves selfishly towards others, I believe you will, in the final analysis, live an unhappy, unrewarding, empty unto hollow life for "happiness", if such a thing exists, is a function of relationship. Things, whether designer shades or single malt, essentially do not matter, only relationship. Sure, it's wonderful to have a carbon fibre bike but that does not define an individual, or should not, in my universe, nor the colour of one's skin or one's gender.

Of course it's wonderful to possess nice things, to travel and holiday, but not having "stuff" or such opportunities doesn't mean that one will be unfulfilled. Far too often, just the opposite occurs. Materialism is mistaken for success. Success, in my book should be measured according to the yardstick set out in this stunningly insightful song by Danny Michel, Who's Gonna Miss You?

You can climb a mountain, you can swim the sea.
Or find a cure to some disease.
Or break every record in the book ya see (yeah)
But who's gonna miss ya when you're gone?
Who's gonna miss ya when you're gone?
Did ya live it right, did ya live it wrong?
Who's gonna miss ya when you're gone?

You can carve a statue, and stand it tall.
And hang your painting on a wall.
Press your hands in wet cement.
But who's gonna miss ya when you're gone?
Who's gonna miss ya when you're gone?

You can come in first, be the best!
Win the lotto, ace the test.
Ya can line all them awards all up in a row.
But who's gonna miss ya when you're gone?
Who's gonna miss ya when you're gone?

Did ya live it right, did ya live it wrong?
Who's gonna miss ya when you're gone?

Pop the question, cut the cake.
Pop the cork, and consummate.
Plant yourself a little family tree (yeah)
But who's gonna miss ya when you're gone?

You can write a hit, and be a star.
Ride around in a big long car.
And everybody reaching to touch your hand.
But who's gonna miss ya when you're gone?
Who's gonna miss ya when you're gone?

Ah! Did ya live it right, did ya live it wrong?
Who's gonna miss ya when you're gone?

They took you home now.
Up to that Big House.
Because it's where you long to go.
Now I recall where, you 'was' a good friend.
The wind will always blow.
So I say, ooh ooh ooh ooh

The church bells ring, and the sky turns grey
And that big black hearse roooolls away
And everybody tries to walk away

I'm gonna miss ya when you're gone
I'm gonna miss ya when you're gone
Everyday, and all day looong
I'm gonna miss ya when you're gone

Who's gonna miss ya when you're gone?
Who's gonna miss ya when you're gone?

Did ya live it right, did ya live it wrong?

I'm gonna miss ya when you're gone

Once again, Vittorino, I really don't have any answers. I just stumble along, laughing and crying at the wonder around me, hoping to be a better person in spite of my many faults and obstinacies, my all too often deafness and blindness to the pain and suffering which surrounds us, (And we live such privileged lives simply because we live where we do, have what we have, compared to so much of the rest of long-beleagured humanity!), trying, hoping to be grateful and ever attempting to show my gratitude
and genuine affection to others as we dance through this mystery we call life, together, whether we know it or not. Here endeth the lesson!!!
Cheers, dear friends, Vittorio/Patrizzio The Younger, Patrizzio! Pics: Clover and The Imperiales! [Marilyn and Big Al live on Imperial, in Burnaby.]

He is the recipient of the Pulitzer award and really spells it out...There are many other speeches...as well to follow to help you unravel what's really happening to out democracies Finally someone who is not afraid of speaking out and explaining what is really taking place in this world and it is not about Conspiracy theories This man is brilliant!!...I look forward to listening to more of his lectures!!🙏😎 This is a forward from Frank a Summerlander retired school teacher and orchardist..dedicated to educate the average Joe😇 If you don't have time to listen to it now ,..like most of us file it and listen to it soon as in the near future🙏 Elle( Murielle)

Hi, I’m sending this email along with the above website in the hopes that you will take the time to view a talk given by Chris Hedges, a Journalist and a Pulitzer Prize winner. So, sit back with a glass of wine, a beer or even a soft drink. This is a very sober look at the world we live in today. A world, by all circumstances that is going to get much worse. Although it pertains mostly about the United States, think about how it may also apply to our federal and provincial governments and even our local municipalities. Thank you. Frank

Hello Kids: In case you have not seen this! Cheers, Patrizzio! Chis Hedges, journalist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ycuw9Cvh6W4

Ragin' Bulll, Fast Eddy and The Penguin SIng the Wild Bididng Blues: Monday, October 23rd!

Remember, we all stumble, every one of us. That's why it's a comfort to go hand in hand. -Emily Kimbrough, author and broadcaster (23 Oct 1899-1989)

Bridgers Anonymous! Patrizzio was going to send out a final notice, but is obviously far, far, overwhelmed by his voluntary duties, and now, probably dips-doodling his way to a 101.33K ride. Pat and I will take care of the main course/Greek salad; Janet is on dessert; Ed, if you can bring some appies … but go light! There will be *lots* of food!

I will have the main course timed for 18:00, so Ed, come on over any time, even early if you can. Weather report calls for some sun, so a beer on the deck might be possible. Janet, when you get here, there will be leftovers! Pat, give me a call in the a.m. to finalize any shopping etc. that needs to be done. Btw, Lady Dar is more than welcome to join us for dins before her foray to more culturally significant pursuits.

On the Bridge front, I have cards (carefully shuffled, so I will deal all hands) and notepaper. But I have already calculated the final scores. Again, the address is the big green house / hedge; across from the church. Branko
PS: I am also making some mushroom soup. Hello Monday Night CBC Bridge Fans! How simply wonderful to be back in Vancouver where the food is prepared and eaten by the those preparing the dishes before the guests have a chance for even a wee bite! As well, great to know that the decks are stacked so that all the wonderful bridge prizes stay with Ragin' Bull! Makes we want to stay at The Heartbreak Hotel where Lady Dar is preparing a wonderful spaghetti squash chicken casserole and I, as scullion, am at least allowed to lick the spoons for meagre sustenance after all my VWF volunteer duties. But don't worry about me, I've decided I don't eat with my meals anyway so will simply sit in the corner knocking back all the fabulous Okanagan wines I plan on bringing! Fondestos from Lady Dar, clanging pots and pans in the kitchen, and hurling furiously nasty looks at me, as I scribe, on my first break since 5:30 am! Cheers, Convict Conduttore!

This evening, with Victor, then with card sharks, Ragin' Bull, The Penguin and Fast Eddy! Ragin' served an incredible lamb roast. Dad Did you order me a new computer??? lol Well whatever you ordered arrived tonight, do you need me to do anything with it?? xx

Dear Friends Everyday life has caught up with us very quickly and we are working on the "overtaking track" again. But we do not want to complain and we like to think back to our trip to Canada. We think about all the beautiful moments with our friends. We would like to thank you for your lovely and very pleasant hospitality, which we were able to learn. Thanks again for everything, it was just great! If you want to travel to Switzerland, we would be happy to be your host. Let it know ... you are more than welcome!! We wish you nice autumn in the beautiful Canada .... and hopefully see you soon. All the best and, above all, good health and beautiful moments. With kind regards Annemarie und Rudi

Hi Old Farts! This Thursday, we are planning to hike into Charcoal Mountain (at least that’s our name for it).  It is to the east of Skaha Bluffs, and should be displaying its beautiful larch tree colours about now. We will: -meet at 0800 at Home Hardware north parking lot in Penticton (0740 at IGA parking lot in Summerland). -carpool and drive to the Skaha Bluffs parking area. -hike up the eastern slopes into the area of Charcoal Mountain (and perhaps even to its top).
-return to the cars-choose a place for debriefing and refreshment. Please give me a quick nod if you are intending to join us.

Looking ahead just a bit…. We are planning to do our annual hike into South Slope and the area of the mountain sheep again.  It will take place on Thursday, November 2nd (Mark it on your calendar).  It will be a long day, beginning at 0700. More info to follow…this is just a heads up. We are nearing our limit for numbers of folks we can handle at breakfast.  Just a couple of spots left, so let me know quickly if you still wish to join us.  Remember, it begins at 0800 at Shades on Main, in Penticton. And one last glance ahead…..tentatively, we are planning to hold our annual Christmas picnic on Thursday, December 14th, Mark it on your calendar! Cheers, Jim

Brunch Set-up/Strike, Devon Cream Tea set-up/Strike Blues: Sunday, October, 22nd!

Think for yourself and question authority. -Timothy Leary, psychologist and writer (22 Oct 1920-1996)

Brunch/Afternoon Tea Set! Hi Mother Teresa, et al! Would it be possible to have copies of the Sunday plan printed, and delivered to PW, so that Crew Captains have it. I don't have access to a printer where we are staying. Thanks and Cheers, Patrizzio!

I GAVE HARD PRINTED COPIES FOR ALL THE F&B STAFF AND ALL THE CAPTAINS YESTERDAY AFTERNOON AND GAVE THEM TO LAURA....HAS SHE NOT PASSED THEM ON? OR MISLAID THEM? SHE IS MEANT TO GIVE ONE EACH TO ISABEL, PATRICK, MEGAN & MELANIE, AND KEEP ONE FOR HERSELF. SORRY FOR THE CAPITALS, i am pretending I am Owen Meany. BEST, Kathryn

Hey!! I was definitely supposed to be laundering the non-A&B linens and i just realized they didn’t make it into my car. Do you know where they went? Did Production take them? Hi Isabellina! Cannot say for sure about the used linens. I know they were separated but not sure what happened to those containers. I thought that they were placed with rest of material destined to be taken away by Production. Perhaps they were "clumped in" with rental containers. I did point out the un-opened linens and I assume Production took the two boxes away. Anyway, I trust you will find the lost tablecloths!

Thanks again for all your tireless, hard work. From my point of view you managed exceeding, exceedingly well under such trying, at times difficult, situations. Bravo! Onward! Please pass long my sentiments to Laura as she was more than a trooper in her similarly demanding role. Both of you deserve the highest of praise for your efforts, all conducted with courtesy and concern. Fondestos and Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hi Y’all, At the moment we have booked Munich from 3 June to check out on7 June then a 7 day bike ride to Vienna.  We are going to book into Vienna from 15 June to about 19 checkout then we are not sure after that probably a bit of tourist trip to Innsbruck and Switzerland on the way back to Munich for 2 July  return flight.  September is still OK we just need an idea of when for flights etc. Still can’t get emails thru to Patrick all three email addresses I used got bounced due to time outs whatever that means I even tried a straight reply to Patrick and either doesn’t look at emails or they are not getting through?? Cheers Greg and Claire

Hi Pat and Corinne, How's your Fall going? We would love to have you visit us if you are coming down to the coast for any reason like the Writer's Festival of VIFF or just for a change of pace. We assume the Fall is lovely up in Penticton with all the changes in colour and the grape stomping for this year's new wine production. I'm sure 2017 will be another great one and then, of course, there's the unveiling of the many new wines to hit the market for all of us eager consumers to drink and enjoy. Thanks for the greetings on Thanksgiving! We had the family up for one night with Leah and Alex in attendance before heading off the Toronto and Stanford, respectively. Niki was at a wedding in Kelowna and is leaving for a holiday to Columbia in a couple of days. These are certainly exciting times. Ruth
Hi Ruth we are down for the Writers Fest now and will return home Tuesday.
So no visit this time. I don’t know if you know that Chloe has moved to Penticton. She has a job as a strata manager and is living with us until her new build town house is ready in the early summer. We have just purchased a quarter share in a place at Spirit Ridge so hopefully you can join us there sometime soon. Talk soon Hugs Corinne

Poetry Bash Blues: Saturday, October 21st!

Hey Grandpa, did you not get my texts? Anyways, how long are you in Vancouver for? the Chinese son you never had, VL

Greetings Captains! I'm so excited to see you all tomorrow - it's going to be a great day and we are pretty close to being fully organized. In about an hour we will start setting up the hall, which is very exciting indeed! Please see attached for a copy of the menu. There is one change - we are not proceeding with Smoked Salmon sandwiches for the tea. Other than that, the menu is pretty accurate! We will be printing menus this year and will have one per table - woohoo! See attached, also, for the full schedule for the day. Setup and strike vollie duties are at the top and the bottom of the document, and the service crews are grouped in the middle. This is the general schedule you should follow, though of course we know not everything is to the letter at these events.

In terms of shift lists, I did ask for a digital copy of them but have not received yet. If i get them tonight I will print them off - but there's a chance we will have only one printed copy at the event, and my apologies for this if this is the case. Obviously, you will not be expected to keep attendance of people if you don't have the shift lists. Also it's entirely possible KPOW sent you the shift lists and I just don't know and I'm none the wiser. Stoked to see you at 7:45am (Patrick), 9:30am (Megan), and 2:00pm (Melanie). Let's rock & roll! Thanks -Isabel

Hello Fartograms, After a fabulous hike up Rattlesnake last Monday, we will attempt to conquer Campbell Mountain coming Monday along a SW route. I can't recall we have done this, so a bit of an adventure, but no worries 'cause I have a gps track. It looks like it will have wonderful views. Starting location is from Penticton Avenue, near the end.

As usual we will gather at the Home Hardware in Penticton at 9:00AM. Summerlanders can meet at the IGA at 8:40AM then make their way to the HH in Penticton. Home Hardware parking lot at 8:40AM then make their way to the IGA in Summerland. To serve all seniors among you .... REMEMBER THE START TIME: 9:00AM Hope to see you there! Cheers, Opa Aart (... naturally young at heart) ... Uncle Tony will be at a theatre near you soon!

Life Drawing as Andreas Schroeder Sings the Blues: Friday, October 20th!

A society which is mobile, which is full of channels for the distribution of a change occurring anywhere, must see to it that its members are educated to personal initiative and adaptability. Otherwise, they will be overwhelmed by the changes in which they are caught and whose significance or connections they do not perceive. -John Dewey, philosopher, psychologist, and educational reformer (20 Oct 1859-1952)

Hi Kids! Terrific to meet those I've not volunteered with before and marvellous to see those with whom we've worked on past festivals. Here are a few snapolas from both Wednesday and Thursday shifts. Cheers, Patrizzio! Note: Last pic, proof positive that Patrizzio, Head Bar Keeper, is always right!

Hello Revelstokians and Mary Queen of Scotch! Wonderful to see you, Mary, Mary Quite Contrary! Talk about synchronicity! First of all bumping into Mary, Mary Sanctuary and then learning that Tara's husband, Darek, did a shift for Pierre! I'll let the two Revelers talk to each other. Anyway, just wanted to send along the snaps I took along this evening. Fondestos from Lady Dar, sipping a Bench 1775 Sauvignon Blanc, to unwind and shed all of her passive-aggressiveness! Cheers, Patrizzio! Pics: Band, Poetic Licence, at work and play! Barkeeps!

Hi Patrick: Great to see you and Corinne at the Screen Gems event Wednesday night at VIWF — what a wonderful surprise! And, what with catching up with Hart Hanson again, it felt like old home night. I’m just connecting with you by email, in case the scrawled address I left you was illegible. I’ve also sent you a friend request on Facebook. Enjoy the rest of the Festival, and keep in touch!
Best, Sara
