Buongiorno Booksters! Thanks to all those who made yesterday evening's discussion so lively and otherwise entertaining, with wonderful contributions of hootch and edibles. At the end of the night it was decided that Ruth Gilligan's Nine Folds Make a Paper Swan will be the next selection. Book is part of the Penticton Library Book Club Set so Lady Dar will arrange for copies for everyone. Dame Judith will host on April 12th. Thanks and Cheers, Patrizzio!

It really was a great evening and I thought the discussion on the book was very interesting. So very different perspectives on the same book. Loved it. Judi Really sorry to have missed the book soiree. As well disappointed, as I am not going to be here on April 12. Senka Sorry to hear Senka. We missed your input!!
Hi All, I couldn’t get 9 folds in time so made an executive decision and got
Five Star Billionaire by Tash Aw who was born in Taipei. The book is set in Shanghai and revolves around the cost of progress and its effects on 5 people. It was published in 2013 and was long listed for the Man Booker. We should be able to do 9 folds after that. You can come anytime to pick up a copy. Just let me know and I can also leave copies on front bench. Corinne I just got 9 fold this morning. I am in Princeton until Tomorrow afternoon. Please save me a copy Judi
Good Morning Sendero Canyon Folk, et al! Congratulations on your "dream house! Hip Hip Hooray! Unfortunately, Chloë feels the neighbourhood is going downhill, right into the canyon!!! Lovely to have Jesse and her extremely well-behaved daughter, Harper, join us! See everyone soon, I trust. Must away as the Hope-Princeton calls. Cheers, Patrizzio! Hi Hoysin Man, et al! Sounds fabulous BUT Sarge just looked at '7's programme and Canada plays its 3rd game at 6:30 pm tomorrow evening. At this point I really don't know if I want to stay that long as it will already have been a long day, starting at 9:30 am! At any rate, it will probably be closer to 7:30 pm by the time I get back from BC Place and drive over to you. I trust this suits you. Lady Dar didn't come in this time. We will be back next Friday for Ted's Celebration of Life.
Left at 9:05 am and drive went very smoothy, roads dry all the way to just past Princeton where highway became wet from melting snow on the shoulders. Manning Park was much the same but towards the west end there was a bit of slush and compact snow but nothing to bother about, particularly as traffic was very light. Stopped at Costco for gas, (One cent cheaper than it was in Kaleden where it was $1.25.9/l.), and few groceries, at 1:00 pm. Was out by 1:30 pm but shortly after leaving Abbotsford traffic slowed to stop/start, stop/start as apparently there was an accident ahead. Saw no evidence of such but wasn't over Port Mann until close to 3:00 pm.
Remainder of journey went quickly and I even picked up the rear pannier holder, one I'd ordered from Reckless last time we were here, and was unloaded and ready to head over to FCCC to use elliptizer by 4:00 pm. Felt especially good to have some exercise after drive. Flamin' did some lovely lemon chicken and yam fries, perfect "soppage" for malt tasting to come. She just left to go to see Black Panther, at Fifth Avenue, and Sarge and I will mosey over to Performance Works at 7:00 pm as we have VIP tickets for 7:15 pm, so are able to taste many of the higher end offerings before the hoi poloi are allowed in! Thanks and Cheers, Patrizzio/Il Conduttore!
Patriçio, OK, a little vague, but do I interpret that you will come over for booze and chicken, maybe not in that order, after the 7’s - maybe as late at 7:30ish? That’s fine by me. Heck. you can even bring Sarge. I will do a wack of chicken, as I always do, and use any over lefts for chicken salad. You might even meet my girlfriend - UNOFFICIAL at this time!!! I would be also like to attend Ted’s Celebration of Life. Maybe we can plan another social evening after. Branko
Hi Patrick, Lynne and I have been banished from the Desert for too many rowdy, late night parties. We are being deported on Saturday. Would you be available and willing to give us a ride from the airport, please. We will be arriving Penticton on Air Canada Flight 8354 at 6:50 PM, god willing. Looking forward to seeing your happy face.😎 I’m looking forward to my last day at the Indian Wells tennis tournament today. It’s awesome seeing the stars in action. Cheers, Peter Hi Melanie! Certainly lovely to see you at Dram! Sorry we didn't have a chance for a longer visit. You look well and I trust you are enjoying life. You are always welcome to stay if you visit The Okanagan. Until next our paths cross, keep in touch. Take care of yourself, Melanie. Fondestos from Lady Dar, just out to a Grandmothers for Africa meeting. Cheers, Patrizzio! Pics: Dram!
Dear friends and family, Ted's obituary is in the Vancouver Sun and Province today and over the weekend. You're welcome to sign the guest book or share a memory at http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/vancouversun/obituary.aspx?n=edward-michael-keating-ted&pid=188406047&fhid=5868 Love, Elaine, Kristina, Stephanie and Laura "One of my most treasured memories of Ted took place when he and two other friends and I drove to Los Angeles to attend the Rugby '7's. En route we went wine-tasting, in Napa and Sonoma, but outside Santa Cruz, traveling on Highway 1, along the Pacific, he suggested we stop so that he and the lads could practice their chipping skills in the gorgeous sand dunes. So we did just that, he and Mick and Sir Andrew, hitting balls into the strong wind into the slopes of the surrounding dunes, happy as larks as no green fees! Ted always had an eye for finding fun in unlikely situations and took great pleasure in sharing his insights for the benefit and enjoyment of all. An incredible travel companion, not only on trips but also in life itself."
Edward (Ted) Michael Keating, February 22, 1947 - February 27, 2018
Passed away peacefully with his family by his side. Ted will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Elaine; daughters, Kristina (Alex), Stephanie (Will), Laura (James); grandchildren, Hazel, Oliver, Violet, Riley, Naomi, Sloane; siblings, Bob (Donna) and Brenda (Gordon). Also missing him will be his nieces, nephew, many friends and relatives.
Ted was born in Winnipeg to Jean and Mick Keating. After graduating from the University of Manitoba, Ted moved to Vancouver where he married Elaine and started his family. Throughout his career, Ted taught at multiple schools within the Vancouver School Board. He always loved being part of the school community, enjoying equally the staff, students, and math. A life-long learner, Ted embraced the opportunity to work with online learning platforms for the Open Learning Agency and Thompson Rivers University.
Ted was a sports enthusiast who loved playing, coaching, and supporting local teams. He enjoyed rugby, squash, skiing, cycling, floor hockey, trekking, and was always up for a round of golf. Ted was a loving husband and caring father who supported his daughters in all that they did. Ted loved meeting new people and seeing old friends. He could always be counted on for an invitation to dinner, and his sense of humour and friendly personality made everyone feel welcome in his home.
A special thanks to his many friends and relatives who supported Ted and his family during the last few months of his life.
A celebration of Ted's life will be held at Fairview Presbyterian Church, 2725 Fir St, Vancouver on Friday, March 16 at 1pm. If you wish, memorial donations may be made to St. John Hospice (stjohnhospice.ca) or to support research on Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease through the Alzheimer Society of Canada (alzheimer.ca).
Hi all, Gill and me are going to XC ski around the Vista trail (East of Nickel Plate Lake) on Saturday. It only took 3.5 hrs last time with an hour for lunch (it's a 5 mile trip)! Anyone wanting to join us on this loop trail is welcome (mostly flat). We are meeting up at Home Hardware at 9:30am. The skiing starts from Snowflake car park. Cheers. Gill and Phil Robson
