Post-Election Blue House Blues: Wednesday, November 7th!

The cardinal doctrine of a fanatic's creed is that his enemies are the enemies of God. -Andrew Dickson White, diplomat, author, co-founder and president of Cornell University (7 Nov 1832-1918)

Hello Dear Friends, I believe most of you know that Jos and I, with our friends Marianne and Tim, were in Greece in September & October to visit 4 islands in the Cyclades (it took us 24 hours to get there!). Objective was to do as much as possible on foot and take ferries from one island to the next. We were eager to do something more relaxed than the "challenging out of the ordinary trips" we typically do! Maybe this will become the norm now.

Ellen Terry as Lady Macbeth
We had a great time, the weather was cooperating except for the "MediCane" that struck while we were there (apparently this was world news). Wind gust of 9-10 made hiking along cliffs challenging at times, but unlike some other travelers we ran into, we had only one ferry cancellation and could hire a private boat with others later in the day to carry us across to the next island. The islands we chose, under guidance of my sister, were small, generally un-touristic and therefore authentic Greek. The several emotional encounters with kind Greek locals were a testimony for that and always a special experience. The islands were simply beautiful, with some stunning coast lines. The quite different geology resulted in many dramatic landscapes and strange landforms. In particular Kimolos consists largely of acidic volcanic rocks and tuffs.

One setback: The normally well connected public bus system on these islands was not always operational so late in the season and that meant, unfortunately, that we had to rent a car a few times, just to get us to where we wanted to go to hike. The positive side of this was that we were able to do more than we otherwise could have done. In the photo series you will find a map of the islands we went to, as well as our detailed itinerary, so that you can see how long we stayed where.

I assume you know how Flickr works. But just in case, on the opening screen with all photos posted in small size, you can hover over them with your mouse and see the file name. All file names describe where the photo was taken, some in more detail than others. You can view the photos best in full screen mode, press opposing arrows at the bottom right. Esc to get out of it. If you wish to download a photo you can do so by pressing the download icon on the bottom right of the screen. Download in any resolution including full resolution. Please let us know if you have any questions. Enjoy! Aart & Jos

Hi again to our Favourite Perth People! Condolences on the death of your brother, Kev. Sorry to hear about Sushi but glad to learn pooch is on the mend. Wonderful news about the coming birth. We expect to be great-grandparents this coming February as our youngest grandson, Alex, and his wife, Samantha, are expecting a girl, Olivia Rose, then. Glad none of us are getting any older! Cheers, Patrizzio! Pics: From Grandmothers for Africa, fund-raiser diner, last night. Friends and then Lady Dar making an announcement; then with Rosie-the-Riveter, her Mom!

Happy Belated Halloween back to you, Ret and Dorothy Hi Stranger! Haven't seen you for some time. I assume you are engulfed with painting activities. Nevertheless, trust you are well. I haven't been hiking for ages but hope to start again, soon. However, have been playing bridge with many friends who are also in hiking group. Snaps were taken this past Monday so you might know some of people. Cheers, Patrizzio! Pics: Bridge gang! Last snap has Lady Dar in back row and her Mom, Clara, visiting from Winnipeg, in front.

Would love to pop over for a wee dram. Perhaps after all your company has return home. I finished the book. WOW! I don't know what else to say. Remind Corinne to bring Louise's book tomorrow. Dane Judith Might see you tonight or tomorrow night. Have a dinner on Friday and the Symphony on Saturday. Judi
Hi again, Dane Judith! We are off to Theo's for GFA dinner tonight, around 5:30 pm, I believe. If you are going you could come over afterwards for a nightcap. Thursday evening would be fine as we will be home. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hello GFA Diners, et al! Wonderful evening and thanks to all The Grannies for putting on such a smashing affair. Lovely to meet you Merle and trust our paths will cross again in the near future. Cheers, Patrizzio!  Thanks, Patrick and Corinne. A successful evening to be sure. Great photography! Karen

Tickets were sold out when I went to get 2 so we miss out. I had to be sure I could climb the stairs before buying the ticket.... I wrote to Corinne to see if she had extra but didn't hear back from her. so, perhaps tomorrow night. Judi Looking forward to seeing you! Hi Single Malters! Sorry you were not able to join us at the GFA dinner this evening. It was a lovely affair and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. Rosita joined us so we had a full table along with "cousin" Michelle Dunn and Antonio, Karen and Dave, and Merle Kindred, a woman we didn't know although we seem to have a number of mutual friends. We are home all evening tomorrow so pop by whenever it suits. Cheers, Patrizzio! Pics: GFA at Theo's!

I kept trying to get 2 tickets for Janet and I to go. At 4:30 they had one - it would be nice to have folks turn them in a little earlier. They thought they might have one between 5 and 5:30 but that was cutting it a bit too close. Hopefully next year i won't have a broken foot and will be able to get my ticket early. See you this evening. Judi Thanks Patrick. I know Merle Kindred through her work with Habitat for Humanity projects locally. She and her late husband were very involved in architectural work in India for many years especially sustainable building structures. Yes Judi and I will pop by for a wee dram tomorrow night. Kevin

Hi again, Kevin! Thanks for a bit more background. When chatting with Merle I did hear about her work in India and elsewhere, (Guyana, most recently, I believe.), but did not know about specifics with Habitat for Humanity. We donated a fair bit of "stuff" to them, here in town, as a result of our kitchen renovations. Quite enjoyed talking with her, another Prairie Girl, originally, but has lived in quite a few places around the world as you know far better than me. Anyway, see you tomorrow evening. Cheers, Patrizzio!
