Remember, we all stumble, every one of us. That's why it's a comfort to go hand in hand. -Emily Kimbrough, author and broadcaster (1899-1989)
Enjoyed an extremely good sleep last night as I was up, every few hours, [Unlike Lady Dar I can go back to sleep fairly quickly.], to turn on air-conditioning, until room cooled down, and then switched it off. Neither Lady Dar nor I like it on all night as find it too chilling and hard on the throat. After quick showers we went for breakfast and were treated to another show by the family of monkeys we'd seen yesterday.
About ten of them made their way over the breakfast room roof to the large trees beside the hotel office and we were able to see a couple of females with babies clinging to their backs, as well as many of the others, their tails wrapped around the branches as they waited to progress further along boughs. I believe these are Howler Monkeys. Yesterday, when I was in the pool, I heard what I thought was a motor-bike passing by on the street and then realized it was the sound some of the monkeys were making as they moved through the tree tops. Quite a sound, let me tell you!
Back to our room and then Lady Dar was off for more shopping scope-age while I stayed to start repacking. Most importantly, need to further wrap the delicate humming bird sculpture, which I bought yesterday, even more carefully, in spite of the fact that it is already wrapped in light foam sheets. Particularly concerned about the delicate beak. The wing has a pin which fixes it to the body so it can be removed from the body and is not as vulnerable as the slender beak. Did this between dips in the pool and dry-off time reading.
At breakfast, Lady Dar made plans to have dinner with Amy and Ian, delightful couple from Minneapolis, we've chatted with ever since arriving, this evening. They are doing more surfing today. Wind is really blowing so should be plenty of large waves for them. Had planned to go to an Argentianian restaurant, La Patagonia we'd happened upon two days ago but could not make reservations until 9:45 pm when Lady Dar popped in on her stroll downtown, earlier. She then talked to chap at reception about another place, La Pachanga, an Italian restaurant, even closer, just up the street, which she'd found on the Net. He recommended it most highly and phoned to make reservations for the four of us, at 7:30 pm. Will start off with pre-dinner drinks in our room. Unfortunately, too, too many bugs outside, after sun goes down, so our patio is not the best place then. Otherwise, I read there during the day, after dips in pool, as I try not to expose myself to too much direct sun. It is hot, hot here, let me tell you, although the late afternoon and evenings are wonderful as far as air temperature goes.
Around 1:20 pm we headed into town to have a bite of late lunch at La Patagonia. Saw kidneys as appetizers when we took a look at the menu a few days ago. Lady Dar wrinkled her nose at the very thought but I've always loved them. They were fabulous. She had garlic shrimp and we shared a Rincón Salado, beets, palm hearts, potato slices, grated carrots and lettuce, with delicious home-made oil/vinegar dressing. Pickled, marinated eggplant with soft buns, for me, for starters, on the house. Consistency of cooked mushrooms and absolutely delicious. Back home to cool off in the pool and then read while drying off. Must away as I need to shower to be ready for Amy and Ian, coming for drinks on our small patio.
This evening we did enjoy drinks on our patio and even had a large frog come to visit, along with hotel cat. After polishing off a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc, (a number of bottles of Lost Coast Brewery's Stout and Brown Ale for me), we toddled up the road to have a wonderful meal at La Pachanga. Lady Dar ordered a tuna steak with a mustard sauce and puréed carrots while I had tenderloin, in a Gorgonzola sauce, with mashed potatoes. Amy and Ian shared a mixed salad and then ravioli stuffed with shrimp. Both must have been delicious as they didn't offer to share any! A decent Malbec and everyone was happy.
After paying the bill and thanking the chef and staff, we returned to our patio for some of the wonderful chocolate I had purchased the night before, along with snort of Cacique. Ian and Amy said they didn't want any of the local rum but kept pouring refills so it obviously went down well. Fond farewells around 10:00 pm as we are off at 8:00 am tomorrow morning. Must away to set my travelling alarm clock and brush my teeth.
