Children aren't happy without something to ignore, And that's what parents
were created for. -Ogden Nash, poet (1902-1971)
Greetings to Tinsel Town, Falcon Lake and Winnipeg! I do apologize for not being in touch sooner but I've been too, too busy making meals and doing laundry to keep up with the fast and furious flow of non-stop Freeloaders to have a moment to myself! That being said it was a delight to have Cody and Dustin, (fine young men indeed!), along with Mighty Grigor. [Was really delighted that they had such a great time at Apex, particularly on Thursday, with new snow which was magical, according to their rave reviews!] We had loads of fun, [Cody prepared a wonderful, wonderful meal on Thursday night!], and and it was doubly enjoyable that Toshi was here to share in the festivities, although she stayed at Chateau Sendero for two nights while Team War Eagle took over the house and turned it into a sauna!
Latest
snaps of Olivia are marvellous. Has she been signed by The Lakers yet?
Congratulations, yet again, to the parents and the obviously mesmerized
grandmother and great-grandmother, not to mention a very, very proud
great-great grandmother!
Toshi
and I went snowshoeing on the trails at Carmi on Thursday while Lads
were at Apex. After they left Friday morning, friend Taffy, joined us at
Idleback and we had a wonderful three hour trek. Snow was quite deep at
times so we all had a pretty good workout. Chloë was over for dinner
every night so she had a good chance to visit with everyone. On Thursday
the Boys went to her place after we ate to take a look at her place.
Last night, after dinner, we watched Period. End of Sentence, ["Indian women fight the stigma surrounding menstruation and begin manufacturing sanitary pads."], and Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Subject. Pleased it won as it is a very powerful, necessary story. Then Polar,
"a neo-noir action film based on the webcomic series of the same name",
because Pushy Chloë wouldn't let us watch anything else! Silly but at
least Toshi could follow it as she kept falling asleep and waking up,
tired from pretty good snowshoe workout. She even nodded off the night
before, before dinner, as she was sitting on couch and was so cosy that
she just drifted off!
Up
at 7:00 am this morning to cook her scrambled eggs for her long day
ahead. Her plane to Tokyo was to leave Vancouver at 1:05 pm so she
didn't rally have much time to wait. Over breakfast she mentioned that
she couldn't buy Rice Krispies in Japan so I suggested that we could
stop at a store, en route to the airport, if she wanted to do so. She
did so we drove to Superstore and found a box that would fit in her
checked luggage, along with four bottles of Upper Bench wine! After we
dropped Colin off yesterday we enjoyed a tasting at UB as she wanted to
take a couple of bottles of their Riesling back. Shana, cheese-maker was
there and she had a long chat with Toshi. Her daughter, Chloë,
has studied Japanese and is hoping to teach ESL there so Toshi said she
would be happy to introduce her to a number of her friends who run or
are associated with language schools.
We were at airport in plenty of time and Toshi was able to have her bag checked right through to Tokyo. Good thing as it was heavy! She wanted to "shoot" another short video, [Have included link to one she took at Idleback!], to bring greetings to her friends and family, so after I did that we said goodbye. She was sorry to have missed Lady Dar but hopes she might be back next year, with her mother!
Once
home I vacuumed the car as there was quite a bit a grit and gravel on
floors of both front and back mats. Am hoping there will be less and
less as weather continues to warm up and streets become drier and drier.
Took recycling back to depot and stopped at a self-wash but lineups
were too long for my liking so I just came back home. Am planning to go
deep-water-walking tomorrow morning, as soon as pool opens, to avoid, as
much as possible, the weekend crowds, so I'll drive by car wash around
9:00 am to see if place isn't as busy then.
Dearest Toshi! Trust
you are well on your way to Tokyo and that your flight from Penticton
went well. Thank you so much for the wonderful, wonderful visit. It goes
without saying that both Chloë and I enjoyed your stay immensely. Thank
you for the lovely gifts. As I believe I mentioned, I will wait until
Lady Dar is back before we open the wrapped presents. I'm looking
forward to reading Tony Blair's book as well. Thank you for all these
gifts. Glad
you enjoyed the snowshoeing. You are a natural! Thanks, as well, for
link to video you took at Idleback. I'm sure Colin will enjoy it as
well.
Just
had a long chat with Lady Dar. She and Ayn spent a goodly part of this
afternoon working in Ayn's garden, planting flowers and shrubs. Once
they've cleaned up they will go over to see Olivia for an hour or so.
They are having lunch with Pierre tomorrow. Both she and Ayn send their
best wishes to you and your mom. Fondestos to you, Toshi, and your marvellous
mother. I did so enjoy chatting with her. She looks well and I trust all
goes as can be expected with her coming treatment. All the best. Stay
well. Cheers, Patrizzio! Pics: Duke and Etta hiding from noisy people; Wednesday and Thursday evenings; New mantle ornament for Lady Dar!
Hi Taffy, (and Dame Judith)! Trust you are fully recovered and ready for Monday! I'm planing to join group. Grand that you were able to join us on Friday and glad you enjoyed the snowshoeing. Here is the link to video Toshi took at Idleback. Must away as time for dinner. Cheers, Patrizzio! Pics: New ornament for Lady Dar's mantle! Cody's birthday present. His birthday was on Friday. Hi Patricio, Thank you so much for Friday and the pics. Sorry won't be able to make Monday as I have been informed not to forget an appointment. Darn. Taffy.
Watched more of my latest series, The Frozen Dead, (Glacé), this evening and then started Retribution, "the tragic story of childhood sweethearts, Adam Eliot and Grace Douglas, who are murdered as they arrive back home from their honeymoon. Based in the isolated Scottish Highland village of Braeston, the households of the deceased are shattered by the news. With the killer found badly injured in a nearby car wreck the two families are confronted with further dilemmas. As the police attempt to uncover the links that caused these untimely deaths they unravel a web of secrets connecting members from the Eliot and Douglas clans." Quite a well realized plot.

Hello Fartograms, This Monday we will be roaming on snowshoes in the backyard of Thomas and Selina Tumbach up Cartwright from (almost) the end of Garnet Valley Road (we have done this before). They will hopefully be joining us with their 2 lovely children Amelia and Rosemary. Mostly gentle uphill with unlimited possibilities for side trips either S or N, return by loop. And here's the kicker .... we will not loose our way because Al Tinka is leading the hike! As you know, he knows every bump and every tree by name, so ... all good! As usual, we will gather at the IGA parking lot in Summerland at 9:00AM. Pentictonites will need to get together at 8:40AM at the Home Hardware in Penticton, then carpool to Summerland. Afterwards we will enjoy a beverage of our choice probably in Summerland. See you on Monday! Aart the Mountain Bard
Hi Luigi! Missed you at The Kitchen Stove on Thursday. Were you there? Enjoyed the film. Quite a tough subject. At any rate, just wondering if you and Bruno plan to join the snowshoe outing on Monday.
If so, will it be convenient to swing by around 8:30 am? Let me know and I'll plan accordingly. Thanks and Cheers, Patrizzio! Pics: Compilation album of Toshi, (former Japanese boarder), at Carmi, this past Thursday and then with Colin, on Friday, at Idleback. Her first time on snowshoes and she did exceptionally well.
Thanks for sharing so many awesome snaps of last Monday's snowshoe excursion I'm amazed at how you can manoever the camera with trudging along to also keep up with the group I managed to get out along the Trans Canada Trail from the rodeo grounds to the gazebo ... It was my first this winter so at least a start I cannot join you this coming Monday as I made another, prior committment but will see what the following Monday brings Ceou Patrizzio Elle🙏😊
