Most creativity is a transition from one context into another where things are more surprising. There's an element of surprise, and especially in science, there is often laughter that goes along with the 'Aha'. Art also has this element. Our job is to remind us that there are more contexts than the one that we're in -- the one that we think is reality. -Alan Kay, computer scientist (b. 17 May 1940)
Caro Patrizio, lovely photos, where was that taken not at your house, Jim Henderson ask me about the same question. I saw Jim and Jocelyn at Iza's celebration of life. A few ex-librarian where there. J and J Henderson, Helene Redding, Pia ?..and Joe Jones.. And Ken Karpinski's old partner, Ken, that was very nice of him. He has spent many hours at Iza's with Les. It was a lovely celebration not religious at all. Just reading some poetry Iza liked, good food
and laughter. Iza was 81, yes Patrizio time is machining on.
I am fine, had dental surgery yesterday on my from lower teeth, there is not much left. But I am fine Dr. W. MacDonald, is an amazing TOOTH PULLER,that is all he does. He is big man with large hands how they ever get into a mouth bets me. But he is so gentle. I did not feel a thing, just a bit after discomfort when I got home, but that was so very little. I have a partial denture all ready, but what can I do, 84 years old, something has to give. Take care my friend my love to Corinne. Always Gisela
Busy day today as I spent a couple of hours leveling the panels on the raised bed. Work went as I had expected/hoped. Wasn't difficult to dig three small trenches under the planking while said panels were in place. Once I'd removed the earth the panels slid down into place, level with the tops of the end supports, with a good thwack from my crowbar! After this I set about laying bricks around the planter so that we have a smooth surface to stand on when working on the vegetables' etc. Only did two sides as one closest to sidewalk will accept slightly larger pavers. I want to use these as they will fit perfectly between the edge of the sidewalk and the bottom plank. Once in place, without lava rock, it will be easier to pull the garden hose to water the shrubs on the other side of the garden, not strewing these small rocks across the sidewalk. Once those are in place, next task is to transfer all the compost from the two bins we have in the back lane to the new raised bed. Once I've done this I see how much topsoil we'll need to fill up the bed.
Won't cross those bridges until next week as we are off to Little Shuswap, fairly early Saturday morning and won't be back home until Tuesday. Had a lovely evening with Lynne and Peter, this evening. They brought a gorgeous Lily which can be planted, along with two large boxes of canning jars. They won't be needing them in Victoria but Lady Dar was delighted to inherit them as we plan to expand our canning repertoire. Lady Dar had Begian endive, stuffed with Boursin, for appetizers and fresh olives. She and Lynne started with a 2018 Orofino Cabernet Franc Rosé, 12.3% while Peter and I sipped on a number of malts. [Quite a number, as it turned out!] Chloë was working late so we held off on dinner until she arrived and then we sat down to a wonderful mixed grill, [done on the bbq], sausages and lamb chops, with fabulous lemon potatoes and cherry tomatoes fried with Feta. A 2016 CC Jentsch Small Lot Series Malbec, 14.3% paired perfectly with the delicious fare, [all by Her Ladyship], and then dessert, a gluten/lactose free cheesecake from a new bakery in town, washed down, quite nicely with a 2015 Noble Ridge bubbly, The One, 12.1%, from L/P!
Bittersweet occasion as we probably won't see the Lighthalls again, at least before they leave, given everyone's schedules until the end of the month, when they finally depart for Victoria! Almost four years to the day when they helped us move into Burns Street! Anyway, we hugged and kissed and said goodnight. Lady Dar was too tired to watch anything so she hied herself off to bed. I loaded dishwasher and then repaired to Rumpus Room to finish off last two sets of shoulder exercises while I watched next episode of Hinterland, Duke asleep on top of the cabinet Murphy bed behind me, snuggled on a wooden platter, (with a folded towel, for extra comfort!), made out of barrel staves, purchased at winery in California, years ago, now.

Good day Patrick, and Corrine, Just wanted to let you know, not all your product arrived as expected. We are not sure why, but we think it may have to do with the long weekend. I will call you Tuesday to confirm that we can start next week. I know you are eagerly awaiting your solar array to be installed. We are eager to get on your roof just as badly. Have a wonderful May long! Sincerely,
