Sunshine on Hammered Pewter Blues: Monday, May 20th!

A person may cause evil to others not only by his actions but by his inaction, and in either case he is justly accountable to them for the injury. -John Stuart Mill, philosopher and economist (20 May 1806-1873)

Not up until just after 8:00 am to find Ricardo in the living room working away at some of his legal work. Java was already made so I poured myself a cup and returned to watch some of the PGA Championship he had recorded. Lazy morning and around 10:00 am we sat down to a delish breakfast of sausage and fritatta Little White had concocted once she was up and about.

Once we'd had toast and more java it was decided that they would drive to the marina in Scotch Creek to collect their boat. Lady Dar was content to stay and read and suntan while I wanted to get my shoulder exercises out of the way. This being the case, they set off and we proceeded to our separate pursuits.

Ruthless was back first, having dropped Ricardo off at marina and then into Chase for a bit of grocery shopping. I was finished four sevenths of my exercises, [three sets of seven different stretches], by the time she was back so I went outside to watch her help Captain High-liner dock the boat.

Due to wind and wave action they tether it to a buoy, just off the floating dock. At this time of year the water is still icy so Ruth kayaked out to the boat, towing another kayak, after the not-so-able seaman had snapped the boat cover into place. He then plunked himself into the waiting kayak. No easy feat with bobbing craft and choppy water.

Nevertheless he managed to board successfully, without toppling into the chilling drink, only to find that Little White had dropped her paddle and it was drifting away from her. He quickled retrieved it and they both made their way to shore. Once there, however, Rick discovered that one of his shoe inserts was missing so he had to paddle back to the boat.

It had dropped out of his shoe, [fortunately, inside the boat, near the stern], when he had transferred his wallet and shoes to Little White's kayak so they wouldn't end up in the lake, if he did. Since this operation was going to take a bit of time I returned to my exercises, finishing off the ones I do when laying on my back.

By the time I was finished, Rick was relaxing, with a beer, in his lounger in front of the TV. Little White was gardening, putting lovely flowers in the various planters around the deck, Lady Dar reading and sunning in a nook protected form the breeze. When we were all finished with our respective activites we convenened on the deck to play more bridge, enjoying delicious Belgian endive, stuffed with Boursin, courtesy of Lady Dar, as appetizers. Another couple of rubbers before we repaired inside as late afternoon was cooling off and bugs were out!

Inside we polished off the last of the pizza overlefts and then I went to have a quick shower and change while Lady Dar readied the corn, ribs and kartofellage she had planned for the night's dinner. Salad was a thinly sliced, fresh beet concoction, in a horseradish/mayonnaise sauce. [Beets had takne at least four hours of boiling, so hard were they!] Meal had been set for 8:30 pm so we played a round of bridge before she went to bbq corn and ribs, while reading and sipping! Ricardo and I watched more golf and Little White puttered. Once everything was ready we were called to the table and enjoyed the wonderful, wonderful food. Chatted amiably while savouring each bite and then after we'd finished the marvellous meal, we cleared the dishes and set about playing more bridge.

All sorts of dessert for the taking but we were all so full with main that we opted for Little White's wonderful chocolate cookies, washed down with a most enjoyable ice wine, a 2016 Vidal from See Ya Later Ranch, just the right amount of sweetness not to be cloying, with a hint of raisin/botrytis!

Before we knew it it was almost midnight and everyone was sleepy so when rubber was over we headed for our pillows! Brushed and flossed and then flopped onto the bed and was asleep in the twinkling of an eye!

Hello Phillipo, Susan, et al! Greetings from Little Shuswap! Just taking a break, after dinner, before we will play more bridge! Wednesday is the day that most people have indicated they can play so that is when we have decided to play. We will host and I am hoping/planning for two tables. If you have not indicated that you can, cannot, will play, please let me know so that I can plan accordingly. Thanks and Cheers, Patrizzio! Pics: With our friends/hosts, Ruth and Rick. We used the Bald Eagle and the otter when we needed a fourth as Lady Dar was bbq'ing!

[Ribs Extraordinaire, indeed!]

There is a chance that I won't be able to make it tomorrow night. Last night I had two calls that may tie me up, but I won't know until tomorrow afternoon. The important one is a couple who are planning on coming down from Kelowna tomorrow to finalize some wedding plans. They came when I was away and i was unable to meet them. Their wedding is May 30th and there is nothing in place as yet. They will let me know once they check their work schedules tomorrow.  The other is Princeton, they had a "financial meeting" and need to talk with me as asked if we could have a chat on Tuesday evening. I did buy a trifle for dessert, which I could drop off to you tomorrow and then if I don't make it you will have something. Let me know if you will be home, I could drop it off on my way to the Tuneager's rehearsal. Or keep it frozen for the next time. Dame Judith Hi Judi, We should be home around 3. Up near Kamloops at friends' cabin. Hope to see you later. Cheers Corinne
Hi Patrick and Corinne, Thanks to you two for the great dinner and enjoyable evening.  I’m now sufficiently de-toxed to reply.  Our best wishes for Chloe’s pregnancy. We’ll be cheering for her. Best wishes, Peter and Lynne

Hello Dearly Departing Naramatians! Please to learn that your detox-program was successful! Thanks for well wishes for Chloƫ and again, for gorgeous lily and jars. At the moment were are visiting with close friends, Ruth and Rick Toews, from Squamish, at their lovely cabin on Little Shuswap, just across from Chase. Great weather and wonderful time playing bridge. Fondestos from Lady Dar to you both. Stay well. Cheers, Patrizzio! Pics: Little Shuswap and bringing boat back from winter storage. Generally tethered to a buoy, not far from floating dock, to prevent damage against dock when fierce winds sweep across the lake!

Hi all, After my goof with the starting times last week, let’s hope I have it right this time! This week, let’s go have a wander by Kilpoola Lake.  For those who haven’t been before, it is due west of Osoyoos.  It is within the proposed boundaries of the new national park, and for good reason. We will: -gather at Home Hardware north parking lot in Penticton at 0800 (0740 at IGA parking lot in Summerland) -carpool and drive to a parking area near Kilpoola Lake
-hike by the lake and in the grasslands, and enjoy the wonderful views -find a suitable place for debriefing and refreshment -return home Please note the earlier start times…. Set your alarms for an hour earlier for the summer months! Are you interested in joining us?  If so, give me a nod soon. Cheers, Jim
