I learned long ago that being Lewis Carroll was infinitely more exciting than being Alice. -Joyce Carol Oates, writer (b. 16 Jun 1938)
Lady dar pocket-called both Ayn and I as she was leaving for her volunteer shift at PGH this morning, around 7:40 am! I could see her outside, on the street before she drove away. Ayn called, shortly thereafter, to make sure she wasn't thrashing around on the floor somewhere, to make sure she was okay. We had a pleasant, if brief, chat and she is looking forward to everyone's arrival. Verneen's retirement party is this evening so she will be attending. Apparently she will be launching some sort of natural-fibre line of T-shirts, related to her latest investigation into her African roots. Will be curious to find out more over the course of the wedding and related gatherings. I think she mentioned some of this at Christmas, travel at least, to Africa, but I wasn't aware that her recent connections had turned into some sort of project. Perhaps this evolved once she was there.
Must away as I have to cycle to Rona to pick up a number of bolts for door hinges to complete first bike locker while Ragin' works away on plans for shelving to go between the lockers, for additional storage, as well as for braces to attach to five uprights, built into lockers themselves, which protrude above the roof level of each locker, against wall of house, where I intend to hang large aluminum ladder and store any lumber I intend to keep for further projects!
Really pleased with how locker turned out. Don't think we'll have time to build the other two but we hope to pre-cut most of the needed lumber before Branco leaves so that Stefano and I can put them together. Once the parts are ready process goes pretty smoothly. Ikea at Burns Street! Also pleased, as you can well imagine, Dear Reader, that I'm able to use much of the "scrap"lumber that I've scrounged. Literally saved hundreds of dollars and I will cut up most of what remains for firewood/kindling. Etta and Duke are still fussed about Juno even though she hasn't made any effort to chase them!
Pics: Day 3 of Juno's visit! Ragin prepares scrambled eggs for breakfast; Lovely hike with Juno, after breakfast; We met Jack Rabbit and Nala to take a relatively easy walk in hills up above Spiller Road, the base of Campbell Mountain. Ragin' was trying to get Juno to pose! Nala is more media savvy! Finally! Thirsty Girls after chasing each like wild things through the open spaces of the various clearings we encountered! Juno likes eggs for dinner almost as much as Oliver liked to use them for shampoo! First bike locker! Note nifty wheel to allow door to swing open easily! Design patented by Ragin!
Hi Master Carpenter et a! Fondestos to one and all from The Marriage Officiant, in absentia! Cheers, Patrizzio/Il Conduttore/Favourite-Son-in-Law/Dad!
Greetings from Gander! Off to see some icebergs today in Bonnavista? Anyways weather has been great and we had an in car picnic at Hatchett Cove yesterday. Lots of birch trees. Scenery is very similar to norther Alberta--scrawny trees, lots of ponds but what is different are the coves. Can't say there is much in Gander. Bit disappointing as I thought there may be more things to look at. Built as an airbase in 1951 so really no history. Will go to see the airport before we leave as it is supposed to be interesting.
Not here on a conference. Will attend the TD Summer Reading Launch on Saturday in St. John's at the Cultural Centre? Have fun at the Penticton Art Gallery Auction. Behave yourself. Lots of love for now Jo-Anne
