Hello Wine Tour Guide! Sorry it has taken me a bit to reply BUT we have been exceedingly busy over last few days, your Mom painting our bedroom walls and fireplace that will go there. I've put two coats of Varathane on it so it is ready to go, once bedroom wall it will go against is ready, I hope by the end of today! We slept in your room last night and will probably do so again tonight as our mattress is up against outer wall. We couldn't move bed with it still on frame as it was simply too heavy. Dawn and Gerry Martin arrive this afternoon, pulling their new Airstream trailer so they will stay in it but use guest bathroom. Not sure if they are going to be here for two nights but Anna Maria Tremonte and Rudi Rudenheimer arrive on Tuesday so almost wall-to-wall guests until weekend when The Wedding Officiant has a ceremony in Kelowna on Saturday adn then we are off to Vancouver next day!
That being the case, I need furniture dimensions to send to Branko. He found out about trailers and he said that the mattress could go inside trailer, if put in on an angle. We'll just "squeeze other things around it. Will load it the night before we plan to leave as it can be locked but won't load truck bed until morning we leave, for obvious reasons of security. If we have everything that is to be loaded into box, ready, it shouldn't take too, too long to load it and cover it with tarps, etc. You will need to figure out where you plan to sleep. Perhaps on couch, [Are you selling it to Robbie? If so, when will he collect it?], as we will be staying with Flamin' and Sarge. I'm sure you could stay there as well but you decide.
[Hi D, Here is a running lists of items coming to P Town: 3 side tables 3 chairs (2 red and grandmas) Large white leather chair and ottoman Coffee table 41" diameter 18" high Dining table 66" long 32" wide Wood trunk 39"x 20"x "15
Queen mattress 60"x80" Then of course boxes and tubs I would say at least 20 to 30.Would it be some what on your way to go through Vernon to get to Vancouver? Katie has ten tubs she can give me? If not no worries but I will buy before you get here as I sold my shelf where dishes are stored and and it's being picked up Saturday so want to pack dishes before hand. Night. Love you]
Last night we had a simply fabulous, and I do mean fabulous, time at Poplar Grove's shindig for wine club members! Probably 200-250 people so one big cocktail party! Food stations were wonderful, wine flowed like water and the live band, Rann Berry and the Random Act, were simply terrific so Lady Dar was a Whirling Dervish. Everyone was bused from either Sandman or Lakeshore. We parked at PAG and walked over to hotel. Met some great people, two couples from Winnipeg, now living in Kelowna and here in town. Latter, Shani and Martin, work at PGH. Shani is a nurse and Martin an anaesthesiologist. Shani is now Nana's new best friend! [You know what she is like!] All sorts of others, from Osoyoos to Calgary, (summer place in Vernon!), to Oliver and Lower Mainland, etc.
With respect to wineries that will be open during the week, during the first two weeks of October are the Usual Suspects: Poplar Grove, Upper Bench, Play, Liquidity, Misconduct, (I think), all the ones with restaurants. Probably a lot more, if they still have product to sell, [Terravista closed about three weeks ago as they are sold out!], until towards end of October. Further afield, ones out of Oliver, (Tinhorn, Kismet, Burrowing Owl, Black Hills, all with restaurants), and Osoyoos, (Spirit Ridge's Nk'Mip Cellars,), should also be open.
Must away as I have to cut up some more firewood, from Corey, across back lane, to make sure there is room for Airstream, and then bring down more boxes of books from shelves in garage to make room for your stuff! Once Nana is back from Oasis she will be painting again. With any luck we might be able to move our bed back into place late this afternoon as long as there aren't any touch-ups to do. Love and Cheers, Dad/Patrizzio!
PS: Just had a cal from Barbara and Lynn, couple we first met in Guayabitos, who live in Enderby, from OK Falls. They are passing through, obviously from somewhere south, en route to Kelowna to see their son. Burns Street is the crossroads of the world! Pics: Poplar Grove Corral! [Theme was western!] Winnipers: Shani and Martin. Carolina and her husband whose name I've already forgotten!
Hi Patrick! Well the summer has flown by - i spent much of the time away doing field work. Dave is now retired!! he is enjoying life in BC. I'm back in St. John's teaching - only for the first half of the semester. My mother died at the end of March and we are holding a burial in Windsor, ON, so Dave and the boys will meet me there and then Dave will come back to St. john's for the last 2 weeks. Then we head back to SJ Oct 24.
I'm sure you had a fun-filled summer with lots of adventures! Did you stay around the area? Have you seen Pam? I did email her after you said you hadn't seen her but she simply said she's Ok but not engaged as much. And that's the last I've heard from her.
I was wondering if you could tell me again how you over winter your mandevilla? i have one that seems to have something - the leaves are all crinkly and it hasn't flowered but seems to be growing well. No idea what is wrong. I did buy a new one this summer and it is growing and continues to flower. Any advise on how to handle these would be appreciated. Remember if you're ever in our area, please make sure you come and visit. Luise
Hello Hard-Working Woman! Lovely to hear from you and sorry it has taken me a bit to reply BUT we
have been exceedingly busy over last few days, Lady Dar painting our
bedroom walls and fireplace that will go there. I've put two coats of
Varathane on latter so it is ready to go, once bedroom wall it will go
against
is ready, I hope by the end of tomorrow! We've slept in "your" room
last two nights and will probably do so again tonight as our mattress is
up against outer wall. We couldn't move bed with it still on frame as
it was simply too heavy.
Close friends, Dawn and Gerry Martin, arrived yesterday afternoon, pulling their new Airstream trailer so they will stay in it but use guest bathroom. They are going to be here for tonight as well and then Anna Maria Tremonte and Rudi Rudenheimer, friends from Switzerland, arrive for three nights, tomorrow afternoon, so almost wall-to-wall guests until weekend when The Wedding Officiant has a ceremony in Kelowna on Saturday and then we are off to Vancouver next day!
Will be helping Chloë pack up loft as she is moving to Penticton! We sold loft a few weeks ago and she has put an offer, (accepted), on a new condo, here, in Sendero Canyon. She will love with us until April/May when it is complete. As well, and perhaps as importantly, she has a new job with Pacific Quorum, a property management company, just a few blocks from us. She starts on October 2nd! I'm out of breath just describing events!
Anyway, no, I've not seen Pam of late, We saw her, mid-July, at a Serena Ryder concert here and had a brief chat. She seemed well. I saw here a few weeks later while I was riding along Lakeshore and she was eating an ice-cream cone. We waved but that is the last sighting. Nobody in hiking group, that I know of, has had any contact so not sure how she is faring.
With respect to the care and feeding of the Mandevilla, we will bring them inside as soon as forecast suggests frost is in the offing. Last year we out them inside our Rumpus Room but Lady Dar talked to somebody at one of the garden shops and she said they could survive in our unheated garage so we plan to try that out. Hope this helps.

I have to say you 2 are amazing - social butterflies was coined for you. Get tired just reading this. Thanks for the update on Pam and of course the advise on the plant - will try overwintering and see how it goes. Hope your visitors appreciate your hospitality! And enjoy your travels. Lusie
