Spirit Ridge Fractional Condo Blues: Saturday, October 14th!

Your children need your presence more than your presents. -Jesse Jackson, clergyman and civil rights leader (1941- )

Hi Patrick. Thank you for the Thanksgiving greetings. We returned last week from a couple of weeks on the Queen Mary. Crossed the channel to France and spent some time in Paris then across the Atlantic to New York and Boston then travelled up to Nova Scotia and Quebec. Had a great time with Maur and Bill. Ate and drank far too much! When we got back Gayle had to travel to Vancouver (she is still there and will be back next Saturday). One of her best friends died very suddenly from a heart attack in her sleep. We used to spend time with Wendy in Gibson's whenever we were in Vancouver. Wendy didn't have a funeral so her children are having a celebration of life today for her. Gayle is staying with her other very good friend Lauretta in the Delta. They have all been friends for over 50 years and went to high school together. Gayle will be going up to Squamish tomorrow to spend a couple of days with Krissy who seems to have fallen for Squamish!

After just returning from North America I couldn't face another long flight so I am here with Spuddy who is getting ever more senile and is so deaf these days that his meows have reached a deafening pitch! When I pick Gayle up on Saturday we will be bringing back Tris for the week so I'm hoping that Gayle won't be suffering too much jet lag! We will be in Vancouver next summer since Gayle wants to do the Alaska cruise. Hopefully we will be able to catch up then. I trust all is well with you and yours. I'm attaching a photo of Loretta, Gayle and Wendy taken on Loretta and Alan's cruiser the last time we were over. Wendy is the fair haired lady. Best wishes, Derek

Hello Gayle and Derek! Lovely to hear from you but deepest condolences to Gayle on the sudden death of her close friend, Wendy. Glad Gayle is able to attend the celebration of life. A very, very sad occasion, all around, of course.

On a brighter note, wonderful that she will be able to spend a bit of time with Krissy. Not sure if you are "up-to-date" but Chloë has been living, (With us, again and we are singing The Re-Nested Blues!), and working here in Penticton for last two weeks. All is going very well. When you visit next summer you will probably wish to stay with her in Luxury, Sheet Luxury, at her Sendero Canyon villa, 9to be ready April/May), rather than with her impoverished and overly demanding parents!

Your cruise sounded wonderful and I'm glad Maur and Bill could join you. Hello to them, of course. Fondestos from Lady Dar and Chloë. Best wishes to Spudnik from Etta and Duke, outside again after I fed them their breakfast!  Cheers, Patrizzio! Pic: Etta and Duke on front patio couch!

Hello Famiglia Picasso! Thanks so much for the lovely Thanksgiving card. Duke and Etta tried to dive into the screen to play with the pooch in the pile of leaves! Fall is coming, as I'm sure you well know. Has really been quite blustery over the course of my last few rides, leaves swirling around me as I pedal furiously into the considerable gusts!

This morning, good friend, Guillermo, (aka as Bill!), came over with his pick-up and we took a run to Corbishley Farms, not all that far from Munson Mountain where the "Penticton" sign is embedded in the hillside, for a number of containers of turkey manure! I've gotten to know Giorgio, (aka George Manz), owner/proprietor of the organic enterprise, from his stall at Farmers' Market. A week or so ago, I happened to be talking about getting our small vegetable plot ready for the garlic we will plant and he said I was welcome to come and take some of the manure he uses on his land. Had never actually driven the roads in this area and let me tell you, what an incredible landscape, dotted with simply amazing homes, spectacular views of vineyard covered benches, Okanagan and surrounding hillsides, bluffs, etc. Giorgio's house is one of the grandest, with beautiful patio and pool! Must be money in arugula!!! At any rate, he wasn't at home but had told me where key to gate would be if fence was locked. Turned out it wasn't so we drove in, loaded up and took off.

Back home I dug the manure into our two plots at front of house while Lady Dar started readying back patio furniture for winter hibernation. With the new louvered roof, (a year or so old), we can still sit outside, around the fire pit, and be protected from rain and/or snow, unless it is truly frigid. Depending on how cold things get, we should be able to do this well into December. At any rate, once cushions and such, were bagged and stored, we had quick showers and then headed to Osoyoos. We had an appointment to take a look at a number of "fractional condos" at Spirit Ridge there.

We are thinking seriously of putting in an offer on one, primarily, from my point of view at least, as a small property investment. Lady Dar, of course, loves complex as we have stayed many times, most recently with good friends, Flamin' and Sarge, who own a similar unit. At this stage of my life I'm not interested, (more importantly, nor could I afford it!), becoming a slum landlord but with this "recreational" property all the upkeep/maintenance, (one pays for it, of course, with strata fees, etc.), interior as well as exterior, is done by the resort. Quarter owners, (our case, should we purchase), have two weeks every eight weeks but can opt to leave unit in rental pool should you not wish to use it for those dates. With recent sale of our loft in Vancouver, we would not need a mortgage. Flamin' and Sarge covered all their expenses, (strata fees, insurance, etc.), and still made a bit of money even after staying for most of their allotted time.

At any rate, once we have received some of the background information on original price, minutes, etc., we'll put in an offer and see what happens. After we thanked Lucia, agent who showed us suites, we headed towards Oliver, stopping first at C.C. Jentsch Cellars, a winery we'd never seemed to have had time to visit before. Had heard very good things about their product and were most impressed with everything on offer. In particular, I liked the 2014 Syrah so picked up three bottles and then we left for Intersection. We'd first visited last year and once again, we enjoyed a very pleasant tasting with Donna, herself just a recent, (one year), immigrant to the Okanagan, from Edmonton.

Six purchased whites later we were speeding home for 5:00 pm as we had invited Guillermo for dinner, in part as a small thank-you for manure run! Chloë had put the pork loins we had marinated in buttermilk, in the oven, at 3:00 pm so they were almost ready when we arrived. Lady Dar prepared a wonderful cauliflower dish and I threw a mixed green salad together and we were away to the races. Guillermo left around 7:15 pm to take in Little Miss Higgins at the Dream Café. Chloë left before dinner as she was meeting a friend of a friend for a quick bite and then on to see Strangers on the Earth, one of the documentaries at the film weekend here at the Shatford. Fondestos from Lady Dar and Chloë. All the best to one and all. Cheers, Patrizzio! Pics: My latest additions to malt cabinet, along with dental crunchies for felines! Hills behind Jentsch. One of the paintings done by our friend, Ginette, wife of one of co-owners of Intersection, and then Lady Dar beside another.

Hi All, Did you know that a male elephant seal in Antartica can weight up to 4,000 KG? (2 metric tonnes) That’s enough blubber for a seal-load of snow cones. We won’t need a main course! Great Janet, but not at the expense of being late!! We gotta get the show on the road. After the last fiasco in Penticton, no doubt brought on by a curse from the black feline (the Duke of Despair), I am desperate for a big Bridge win! Wow! Glad you are all so excited. As for me, darn, now I have to clean the bathroom. Hopefully also fix the toilet, which has gone off being fully automatic. Branko

Hi Patrick, Thank you very much for your nice Thanksgiving card. It's just lovely. How are you and your family? Hope you're enjoying Pentocton. I have been in Europe looking after my mother. Now I am back in Victoria. My family is okay. Thank you for thinking of me. Best. Josie
Hi Josita! Lovely to hear from you. Sorry it has taken me so long to reply. No excuses but plenty of reasons! Cheers, Patrizzio!

I will rush home and change from my training session at the gym (sad excuse to be late I know), grab the pre-made (possibly pre-bought) dessert and run down to your place. I think that driving will take me as long as walking very quickly. Will be aiming for pre-7. See you soon. Janet PS A big win you say…well, we will see. Since I haven’t played since the last time we played…I am hoping for the “after not playing for several months, how was it possible that the Penguin waddled to a win? !” line to be spoken at the end of the evening. Janet

Hi everyone, Monday night is the only night I can play. Hopefully it will work for you. Thanks, Olly Have fun in the BIG CITY………Give me a shout when you get back ok. Greetings and Hugs from The Oliver Fairview Road…………..😊😊😊
