Stove-Top Hot Burner Blues: Tuesday, August 21st!

I have no respect for people who deliberately try to be weird to attract attention, but if that's who you honestly are, you shouldn't try to "normalize" yourself. -Alicia Witt, actress, singer-songwriter, and pianist (b. 21 Aug 1975)

First morning since June 26th that we woke up to having a functioning kitchen sink! Still not quite used to the idea of doing the dishes in the new kitchen as opposed to using the guest bathroom sink! Still working out where everything, all sorts of cooking implement-ii and such, should go in terms of everyday use and efficient location. Time will tell as you soon discover, when you reach for something, where it might better be housed, that is if you can even find it in the first place! [Gas fitter has not yet hooked up stove-top!] Still, it is a wonderful, wonderful space and Lady Dar is to be congratulated for her vision, if not for her lack of patience in the face of the on-going delays. Her stoicism is wearing thin as she is impatient to have done with the last of the finishing work and start arranging the living room furniture to take advantage of the new, larger wide-open space.

Next step: Operation Clean-up! Will vacuum and dust the entire living room and what few pieces of furniture are still in place. Then swab the floor until we can eat off it. Won't put anything on the new wall shelves yet as south half of ceiling has yet to be painted. However, once we've scrubbed down the living room we can at least rearrange the dining room table and shuffle chairs around to see what seems to work best in different spots. Onward! Fight!! Musical Furniture!!!

Buongiorno Bridgites! I just talked with newcomer Carol and she will be playing with us this evening. This being the case, according to my count, we will have two tables, with Dummy moving between both. Olga Polga and Michaelo are you car-pooling with The Burns Street Chauffeur Service? Look forward to seeing everyone. Cheers, Patrizzio! PS: Arrivederci Josinta and Aarturo! Travel safely and stay well! I have invited another from the ladies' group so we have 2 full tables

Hello Spiller Road Smoke Avoiders! Thanks to Carol for returning and to Susan for signing up! Great additions to our group. Thanks, certainly, to Gilliana and Phillipo, for hosting. Wonderful to see Michaelo after kite-surfing had taken him away from us for so long.

Not sure if there was any discussion about next week, either day of the week or venue. We are happy to host at the Burns Construction Zone as things are finally starting to fall into place. We plan to serve small chunks of drywall with silicone dip, apparently all the rage in foodie circles these days! At any rate, I suggest Tuesday evening so let me know if you are able to attend. Don't forget to bring your paint brushes. Dummies can finish ceiling. Cheers, Patrizzio! PS: Door prizes will be small batts of insulation! Pics: Two Full Tables! Hip Hip Hooray!!!

I would be available for Tuesday. Please advise address of Burns Construction Zone. Susan! Hi O Susannah! Terrific that you can play next week. We live on Burns Street, between Eckhardt and White, second house, up from White, on west side of street. We usually start around 6:30 pm. See you on the 28th. Cheers, Patrizzio!
Thanks. See ya’ll there. Susan. Patrick, Next Tuesday evening works for me. Looking forward to seeing everyone👍 Pamela Hello Naramata Goil! Trust you are well. Back to normal life on The Bench? We are fine, just dealing with The Kitchen Renovation Blues! Fondestos from Lady Dar, to you, Pamela. Chuffed you can join us next week. Look forward to catching up. Cheers, Patrizzio! Yes Phil and I are good for Tuesday 6.30 at Patrick and Corinne's. Phil may be a bit late as he's going to a meeting before. See you Gill
Does anyone know Patrice's and Corinne's address? Carol

Hi Jacob Two-Two! Great to see you and Vittoria at the Market this past Saturday. I just heard from my friend in Taiwan and he is pleased to have your son contact him: [Hello, Patrick, I'm just back from Japan, where I taught a summer intensive course. Sure, I'm happy to help out if I can. Go ahead and send him my email address! When I first went to Taiwan many years ago, I lived in Tainan. Best, Randy Dr. Randall Nadeau, Professor of East Asian Studies, Trinity University, San Antonio, TX] All the best. Stay well. Cheers, Patrizzio! Pics: Farmers' Market and Tight Clinch Smoocharama! Hi Randy! Terrific to hear from you! Thanks for agreeing to help out. Much appreciated. Fondestos from Lady Dar, to you, Randy. Stay well. Cheers, Patrizzio! Hello Adam, This email is self explanatory. Perhaps you could RV with this Man?? love Dad

Hi from Ottawa Just spent a glorious smoke free week at Centennial Lake, Calabogie, ON with my sister et al in her mansion of a house. My nephew caught a three foot pike from the dock. Wally finally got in some sailing after many years and it was fun watching the kids all enjoying themselves in the water. This week we are staying at their condo in Ottawa for get togethers with cousins and old friends. Thursday we take a cruise on the Ottawa River so life is good. Tell me what happened in Berlin! That is quite a renovation you undertook. Great job!

Hi Mansion Freeloaders! What a wonderful smoke-free holiday! Still suffering here but thick blanket seems to easing off last few days. Wishful thinking? However, played bridge with friends this evening and Gilliana, hostess, mentioned she has been out riding every day over last week or so . For my part, I don't want to chance another bout of pneumonia.

Berlin Backstory: After an otherwise marvellous, accident-free month of cycling in the Czech Republic and Poland, day after last tour ended, I had a couple of falls, while walking, first, while on a tour of Auschwitz, landing me in hospital, in Oświęcim, overnight, and second, in Kraków, day I was back in city, both, probably, a result of start of pneumonia which landed me in hospital in Berlin for a week! Corinne flew to Berlin on June 23rd, to rescue me. I was discharged from Charité Hospital the following day and we flew back to Penticton, via Toronto/Vancouver, on June 26th. Fondestos from Lady Dar, to you, Brenda Louise and Wally. Stay well. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Pics: What we came home to! Lady Dar with hiking friend and her cousin, left, from Berlin! Tom, cabinet installer. Counter-top arrives. Wine fridge, (134 bottle capacity), arrives. Counter-tops set in place. Tom after finishing wall shelves. Tom where fridge, (Only appliance we have not replaced. It is on the other side of room and moving it, over new cork flooring, will be a delicate job for someone!0, will go, beside already fully loaded wine fridge! Microwave surround still to be installed. Sink and stove-top. Bridge last night, Lady Dar with Carol.

Hello Patrick! How have you been? I’ve just come back from 6 weeks in Newfoundland and Labrador doing field work and I’m tired!! And I am finally retiring at the end of August. Dave has certainly been enjoying his retirement. Can’t believe it’s been a year since he retired. Have you heard from Pam lately? We haven’t heard a proverbial “peep” from her. Hope she’s OK.

We’re planning a trip to the Okanagan to do some wine tasting with friends, John and Heather from St. John’s – we’ll be in Osoyoos Sept 18-20 at Spirit Ridge, and then we wanted to find a place around Penticton to explore the Upper Naramata Bench – but we’re having a hard time finding a nice place for 2 couples. Wondering if you had any suggestions as to a nice place to stay? We tried to book a place in Naramata but the place didn’t have 2 rooms and their 2 bedroom suite was booked. We were going to book for Sept 20 – 23. Hope we get the chance to visit with you and catch up. And we’d appreciate any suggestions you have for a place to stay. Luise and Dave

Hi Soon-to-be-Retired Louisa and Far-Forward Thinking Davido! Lovely to hear from you and know we'll see you both in a month or so. Just had a close friend from Vancouver staying last week and she, her Mom and two sisters were just back from two marvellous weeks in Newfoundland. Only one blustery, rainy day so they were chuffed. On the Pamela front, we haven't even seen her, walking on the street, at Farmers' Market, or elsewhere, so far this spring or summer. As far as I know, neither have any of the folks from hiking group. I did bump into her last year, at a number of events, and she seemed fine for the short few minutes we visited. You could try sending an email or phoning but she has not replied to any of the messages I've included her in, for the bridge group, per esempio. We all miss her but seems it is her choice to be apart. With respect to places to stay we are not really familiar with many but I do know that Black Widow Winery has a place to rent:

For Lady Dar's 60th birthday we spent three nights at Copper Goose B&B, 2755 Winifred Rd, Naramata, BC V0H 1N0, and enjoyed it very much.

If you can't find anything, or even if you can, you are all more than welcome to stay here. In fact, we'd be delighted if you would. We trust/pray/hope that all of the kitchen renovations will be completed by the end of August, (Most everything is done/in place as I pen but always numerous finishing details, as you might know!), but we are still able to accommodate four, even six with couch and folding mattress! Can offer guest bedroom and choice of two Murphy beds so you can pick straws. Again, you know the drill from last time: you are free to come and go as you want, when you want. Freeloaders are not entertained as we have our own busy lives to lead! We are hosting our Book Club on Thursday, September 22nd, (You are welcome to join to discuss Paul Haig's The Humans), and Lady Dar has a wedding to perform on Saturday, September 22nd but otherwise we are around, to offer wine-tasting suggestions, retirement/financial advice, etc! [Louisa, are you interested, perchance, in investing your coming pension in a sure-win, guaranteed sky-high-return kitchen renovation project?]

Fondestos from Lady Dar, to you both. She'd looking forward to finally meeting you! Let us know what you'd like to do and we'll plan accordingly. Stay well. Cheers, Patrizzio!
