Countdown to 41 Years of Domestic Bliss Blues: Saturday, May 13th!

Neither genius, fame, nor love show the greatness of the soul. Only kindness can do that. -Jean Baptiste Henri Lacordaire, preacher, journalist, and activist (12 May 1802-1861)

Hi Pat and Corrine, Once again my deepest condolences Corrine, I really admired your Dad and it's so nice that you were fortunate enough to have such a wonderful man in your life and we all benefited greatly by knowing him as well.

Sorry to her also of that very hectic schedule..I didn't think about the fat that I guess you have to drive all the way to Vancouver to fly out to Winnipeg, or is that just because it is so cost prohibitive to fly from Penticton?. Anyway Much love to the Clara and the rest of the family and safe travels for you both.

Seeing as we've been kicked to the curb to make room for the Island freeloaders we will confer on another time and get back to you asap ..before some other selfish people muscle in on us. A very hectic week for us as well as Colleen prepares to head off to Belize. I am off to cabin with Jerry this morning to try and get some more stuff done at the cabin. Take care and we'll talk soon.
xoxoAl

Hi Curb People! Sorry to hear that life on the mean streets is so tough but do please look for some other dates when pesky freeloaders are few and far between!

Thanks for your condolences and warm, kind words about Dusty. In fact, we were always planning to drive into Vancouver this weekend as Corinne and some of her other classmates had organized the 40th reunion of their Library School class. Had the first event, a wine-and-cheese evening at SLAIS, last night. Quite a different set of circumstances, in terms of building, than when we attended UBC back in the mid-70's, of course. Nevertheless, everyone enjoyed a wonderful time. Lady Dar had selected most of the cheese from both Upper Bench and Poplar Grove, and the wine, as well, from wineries in Penticton and Naramata. I think many people were quite pleasantly surprised to taste such fabulous products as quite a few have never visited the Okanagan!

Tonight is the dinner in the party room of the complex of one of her classmates, Nancy Halpern, off Cambie, just south of Langara Golf Course. Unfortunately, as these things go, timing conflicts with Sarge's 60th surprise birthday at Cat's Social House on GI. That being said, the dinner will not be going on all that late and so we, along with Lurkin' Lynne/Jugos Dom Pedro and Stefano/Kathleenika, [Close friends from Melbourne and Kath was in same LS class as Lady Dar and Lynne. She teaches at the U of Melbourne and is on sabbatical. Originally from Vancouver herself they are here for six months as their eldest just had twins. Zoe and Matt have been in Vancouver for almost four or five years now. K/S stayed in Sutherland's condo in March as Flamin' and Sarge were travelling in Vietnam and the Philippines then.], will head over to catch tail-end of celebration.

Loads to do beforehand as we have quite an early flight tomorrow morning so need to be packed and ready to go beforehand, as well as leaving Jo-Anne's place in reasonably tidy shape. [Originally, we were to collect her from the airport on Sunday evening as she is returning from Taiwan where she was visiting with one of her daughters. Hence, her place was free for our stay so quite convenient and extremely comfortable as she has a lovely place on 4th floor of our old building.

Not that we are taking all that much but we still have to organize where we will leave our car. As of this writing I think we'll drive ourselves to Olympic Station and take Sky Train to YVR, leaving our car in parking lot there. Somebody, either Chloƫ or Sarge, will then collect it a bit later and park it in front of Ragin's house, [No room at Harbour Terrace.], on Stephens and 12th until we return next Friday. Have to hightail it back to Penticton to play host to more freeloaders as another classmate, Amos, and his wife, Pat, will be staying that weekend, on way back from Banff. They live in Walnut Creek and we last saw them at Christmas when we drove to LA. Had a fabulous lunch in SF. If it's Tuesday it must be Belgium!

Must way to organize car and bring up more white wine to put in fridge for tonight. Back seat has three flats of wine glasses from last night's event. Will leave them in party facility as caterers will collect them from there when all is said and done. Also have to make a quick run to Legacy to buy Sarge an interesting bottle of malt for his birthday present. Before that I am going to head over to FCCC to use elliptical. Did so yesterday. Since forecast was for rain I decided it wasn't really worthwhile to bring my bike although I would like to try out the new Arbutus Corridor. Perhaps we can do it together, at some point, if we ever manage to be in the same place at the same time! Fondests from Lady Dar to you and Marilyn. Will be in touch once back from Winnipeg but do send us some dates if you have time to think about visit. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Commandatore, This must be a tough time for you and Corinne.  I know that Dusty was such an intimate part of your lives.  I hope and trust you are steering your way through the emotional eddies.  By the way, Barbara Smith's aged husband Sherm passed away two weeks ago. We are going to a wake-like event tomorrow across the street.  Barbara already gave me a case from Sherm's cellar, largely aged Brunellos that have been a delight.
I know that the B.C. contingent is planning to shoot through here in June. We await rough details and are looking forward. We have vouchers on Southwest Airlines because of the huge snafu that stranded us in Albuquerque last year. A couple hundred bucks, that must be used before August 4.

So it occurred to us that sometime in July we could fly to Spokane, rent a car, visit friends we have in Sandpoint Idaho, and then continue up and (if they let us into Canada) visit with our friends in Penticton in their new digs. Does that broad outline appeal to you in any way? If so, are there parts of July that are a "no fly zone?"  We're loathe to let these vouchers expire, and can think of no place we'd rather venture than the Okanagan. Let me know your thoughts on the matter.

We are enjoying some fine Macedonian white wine, tasty and dry.  Back to that and my baseball game on TV. Best to Mme. Coriandre.  One way or another, see you soon!! Cactus and Donna Florida Hello Macedonian Wine Swillers! Thank you both for your kind words and condolences. Much appreciated.

Sorry that it has taken me so long to reply. However, Lady Dar and I are absolutely delighted to hear that you are contemplating a visit. When you mention August 4th, does that mean you must return by then or must flights be booked before that date? I mention this as we will be at Leah Toews' wedding, at Little Shuswap, about three hours north of Penticton, on the weekend of July 28th/29th, returning home on Sunday, July 30th. Nothing on our social calenders until Kid Chelene's wedding, back in Kamloops, on August 19th, so if this "window"works, then that would be wonderful. Let us know what you think your itinerary, beforehand, might be, and then we can plan accordingly. At any rate, to the extent that it is possible we will make every effort to accommodate the Freeloaders from Villa Vicente as we have been waiting for your visit ever since we moved!

Sarge and I will be driving to LA and we expect to be knocking on your door on Friday, June 30th or Saturday, July 1st, depending on how long we stay in Sonoma, only if convenient, of course. Funnily enough, Pat and David Coffaro will be breezing through Penticton, [Back from Banff! What is it with all these tourists from California?], next week, on Wednesday, May 24th, taking us to lunch at The Hooded Merganser, before they speed south to Osoyoos for a night.
Fondestos from Lady Dar, to her Favourite Berkeley Freaks. Let us know what you think about dates for your visit and we can fine tune. Cheers, Patrizzio/Il Conduttore/Commadatore/Rizzzzzzzzzzooooo!

Here's my gift to your dear wife and mother Corrine. Please feel free to sing along with great gusto and courage! Possibly a duet performance of some shape or description? <https://youtu.be/bYLKEePMvIU>

As you see below, Ellen has asked me to relay this information to you. There, it’s done. Cheers, Jim Hi Jim I just wanted to let you know, the Trails of the Okanagans...the society that is trying to get a good, safe hiking/biking trail from Osoyoos to Sicamous, is doing Tea at the Top of the Fur Brigade Trail on Sunday May 28th. There is a hike starting at Hardy Falls at 10:30 or a bike from Priest Camp at 11:30. Tea and cookies at the top about 1:00pm. It would be great if you could let the Old Farts know. We had some members join us last year. They can read more about it on Facebook or at <trail.of.the.okanagans@gmail.com> Cheers Ellen Woodd

Has been quite a whirlwind these last few days, as you can probably imagine.
