Toad-in-the-Hole Blues: Friday, April 12th!

All religions united with government are more or less inimical to liberty. All, separated from government, are compatible with liberty. -Henry Clay, statesman and orator (12 Apr 1777-1852)

Hi Back-in-the-Saddle Marps!! Thank you for the lovely card and Easter wishes. Delighted to hear that you a back cycling. Yes, I loved riding along 16th, where you mentioned. Perhaps you should start a petition to have it renamed The Howard Hurt Highway! I won't be able to think about the aquatic centre until after the 25th of this month. I see my specialist then and I'm hoping that I'll be "cleared" to begin active physio, putting away the sling I've been wearing, even when sleeping, since having surgery on March 12th! Once that is underway, I trust I can return to deep-water walking, gradually at first, of course. I'm also chaffing at not being able to ride, other than on stationary bike, as weather has been so terrific of late.
Terribly sorry to learn of Colin's difficulties with cataract surgery. I do hope his vision improves within time frame you mentioned. Another close friend has been struggling, over last few months, with a number of eye surgeries and I know how frustrating, not to say painful, these procedures and related treatments can be. We send our best wishes for "light at the end of the tunnel", so to speak. Flamin' flew into town yesterday and will be here until after Easter. Friends, Rosemary and Andre, (places in both England/France), will be here over Easter, as well. Speaking of these countries, Lady Darjeeling and Flamin' are already working on the details of coming European junket with them, leaving in late August. Not sure how I'll be able to pay for all the Five Star Hotels The Sisterhood insist on staying in! For my part, think I'll be sleeping in the rental car as I cannot afford the luxury, sheer luxury that has become a way of life for the Rich and Famous of Harbour Terrace ever since we moved!

Lady Darjeeling is away discharging her volunteer duties on the Info Desk at the hospital this morning. Lovely, lovely sunny day although rain is forecast for the weekend. Good time for precipitation as plants in front garden are sprouting buds, garlic is shooting up in one of our planters and the tree the city planted, on the boulevard, two years ago, is already covered in gorgeous leaves. We were surprised to find that another, slow-drip water bag was attached to the trunk, a few days ago, as we understood that when it was removed, last Fall, it would not be replaced. Tree has really done very well so we were not worried about it. In any case, extra help can't hurt.

Also had an automated message, earlier this morning, from The Dream Café, informing its patrons that Brunch, at The Dream Café, is Back This Weekend! Told The Sisterhood that this was just made for them and their never-ending luncheons! Chloë replied: I saw this!!! Yes, may prove useful timing!!! Must away to prepare my own brunch: fried, diced oniones and tomatoe, mixed with chopped turkey pepperoni. When these ingredientes are done, a thick slice of home-style, multigrain bread, with hole poked in the middle, ready to accept two eggs, is put into frying pan. When bottom is done, slice is flipped over and when that surface is nicely sealed, Voila, a poifect Toad-in-the-Hole awaits! Stay well. Happy Easter to you both. Cheers, Patrizzio, The One-Armed, Galloping, (albeit quite slowly), Gourmet!

[We are bringing our team to Vancouver for a night of Bubbles, Rosé, oysters and art at the elegant Ian Tan Art Gallery on Granville Street. Sounds like this is made for you folk! Cheers, Patrizzio!  Already applied for 4 tickets]

Hello Spiller Road Folk! Welcome Home! Word on the street has it that you are now back. Is this so? In any event, trust you are both well. Look forward to seeing you both and hearing all about your time with Trump! Did you receive last message about bridge this coming Monday, at our place. We'll need you if you can make it as Lady Darjeeling and Judy Blue cannot play, while Carolina and Josefinita are both travelling. Haven't heard from Michaelo in ages so don't know where he is. Let me know what you think and I'll plan accordingly. Thanks and Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hello My Darling Swiss!! Sorry to hear your Spring is late. Lady Darjeeling and Flamin' are already working on the details of coming European junket with them, leaving in late August. Will be in touch once our itinerary is finalized as we plan to be Freeloaders in Switzerland again! Happy Easter to you both. Cheers, Patrizzio! Hello Least Favourite Host Daughter! Trust you are exceedingly well, Nadienka. Sorry, I forgot to add you to earlier message to your parents. Must have been thinking about how you were always such a difficult boarder! Love and Cheers, Patrizzio "Tough Love/Mean Streets" Host Vati!

Hello Michaelo! Trust you and Mariola are well. Haven't heard from you in ages. Are you in town? In honor of your next visit in Poland, they have opened a national museum for vodka connoisseurs in Warsaw:
<http://muzeumpolskiejwodki.pl/en/about/> <http://koneser.eu/en/museum/> Unfortunately, I wasn't able to visit. Chat soon, I trust. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hi Patrick, thank you very much for this very interesting info. I had no idea such a cool place exists :-) And, browsing the link you gave me I found another place, if in neighbourhood of the previous one, worth to be. Check it out Show Rum Warsaw 2019 11.05.2019 12:00-24:00

On another note - we just came back from Cuba kiting trip, and sure enough, I caught a bug in airplane, and now I am now finishing to shake it off. So, beginning of the next week I will be ready to resume our regular :-) activities such bridge and hiking. I will start easy with hiking, probably solo around my area, to gain my strength back. Not that I am so weak now, but I want to be sure the flue I had been fighting for a few last days is over. And yes, Cuba was awesome, including cigars and rum, as usual :-)) See you soon. Cheers Mike P.S. I will be in Poland this year, in July, but I doubt I will have time to visit the museum. But I know the product quite well, so won’t miss too much :-)

Hello again, High as a Kite Cubano! Pleased to hear you had another wonderful holiday, smoking cigars and drinking wonderful rum while not skimming the ocean waves! However, sorry to hear that you came down with a nasty bug but wish you a speedy recovery. Closest I've come to Cuba is watching Cuatro estaciones en La Habana/Four Seasons in Havana, a wonderful detective series on Netflix, this past February.

Terrific that you will be visiting Poland in July. For our part, we are planning a trip to Europe, ourselves, with friends, Flamin' and Sarge, from Vancouver, leaving at the end of August when Lady Darjeeling's weddings are over. Will start out in Vienna and then work our way, by car, to Dubrovnik. Other than that, our itinerary has not been finalized. Unfortunately, don't think we'll have time to visit Warsaw and the remarkable Vodka/Rum museums! Take care of yourself as we need you for bridge as soon as you feel better! Have been having two tables for quite some time now. All the best. Cheers, Patrizzio! Hello Patrizio you are having a busy week and weekend ahead of you, but that is very good sign. And you are so very sociable, you need that to channel all your energy. That tree looks absolutely wonderful, we have a lot of young trees
on some street, with water bags, it seemed to work. You garden looks good. Soon you will harvest for your cooking. Cloe, is doing well in Pentiction, I forgot what she is working at or for. It is nice to have her close. The rest of your family are north or south.

We are having a great sunny day here in Vancouver, I just went for walk around the neighbourhood, took the bus up to 33rd/Makenzie and walked all the way down the hill. Because of my COPD, in OLD age, it is getting a bit
harder walking uphill. Therefore sometimes I take the easy way out. Tomorrow is a full days, the Opera Guild has a Spring-Luncheon, at the Vancouver Yacht-Club, ha ha...... we members have to pay for it it is a fund-raiser. As we are having a silent auction as well, some of us have to set up. But that is an easy job, as the venue is breath-taking . Well, that is it for now, have a great time the Ale....Hi to Corinne, always Gisela

Hello Opera Guild Girl! Trust all goes well at the fund-raiser luncheon. Yes, the view from there is wonderful. I'm more familiar with Jericho Tennis Club as when I played squash there were often tournaments there, as well as league play. Have been to a number of weddings at the Yacht Club, however.

Chloë has been working for Pacific Quorum, a strata management company for a little over a year now, and doing quite well, I'm pleased to say. I think she has finally found something that suits her personality. "Forceful but always pleasant", is how we joke about it! As you can well imagine, most of the time she is dealing with problems of one sort or another and most of the tenants/owners are usually very, very demanding and often quite rude. Some individuals expect her to resolve issues which the company is simply not responsible for so she has to be firm but tactful.

There is an increasing demand for such strata services and PQ has a very good reputation so company is growing. This being the case, I think there is a bright future ahead for her, within the organization. Since she is still relatively new to the work, she needs to gain more experience over the next few years. Nevertheless, in spite of the long, demanding hours she enjoys the challenge.

Ayn has lived in LA for almost twenty years now. She works for Crown Media and is now a VP, Production and Acquisitions, for their Hallmark Cable Channel. You may have seen some of their "family" movies, especially around Christmas. Not really my sort of film but very good money-makers! Pierre, our eldest grandson, in studying engineering, in his last year there and Alexander graduated from the LA Fire Department in January, 2018. We attended his graduation ceremony as we flew to Costa Rica for a month or so, a few days later. Fondestos from Lady Darjeeling, to you, Gisela. Stay well. Cheers, Patrizzio!  Pics: Alex with Samantha the day he received his badge, after a mandatory year of probation; Ayn and then Pierre, with Olivia Rose, shortly after she was born on February 22nd.  Samantha; two brothers; and Alex reading to Olivia!

Hello Patrick, thanks for the lovely pics, and the explanation what Chloë is doing, good for her. Yes, the luncheon was a great success, we had a fantastic silent auction. Merilyn the organizer, ( me just a little helper, for the display), did a great job. We had some good speeches, praise and good wishes etc etc.....
The rest of the afternoon. I spent at home being lazy and resting and having a little nap. Tomorrow is another day for activities. Take care Patrizio my love to Corinne Love Gisela
Hi Patrick, Bayswater Inn has space available for all if needed. Hope we can get together. I’m going to NY May 7th-18th if anyone needs to be in Vancouver.
Cheers Elaine
Hi Bayswater Inn Landlady! Thanks so much for your always more than generous offer to stay. As mentioned, I'll be driving into Vancouver with Chloë on Friday, May 3rd, so both Lady Dar and I would like to stay that night, if reservations are still available. Chloë will be staying with her girlfriend, Gaelen, as it is her birthday and her husband has organized a party that evening. Lady Dar is still waiting to hear from Robyn, about staying with her, at least for the night of the book club, at her place. I know she will be in touch once she has confirmed the early part of the week.

Chloë has a very tight schedule, as soon as we reach Vancouver, so I assume she will drop me off at your place in the early afternoon, unless we make arrangements to meet Lady Dar someplace else. The three of us will be staying overnight, in Gibson's, on Saturday, after party, and then heading straight back to Penticton on Sunday. I don't think we will be back until much later in the summer, if then, but thanks again, of course, for the offer to stay when you are in NY. Will be in touch as soon as we've worked out all the details of trip above. Thanks again, Dearest Elaine. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hi, I have read some of the info on your site. I remain confused. Is there a trailer hitch for the Kona EV 2019? There was no 2018 as stated in a reply on your site. The local Hyundai dealer also says there are no pre drilled holes. Please help. Thanks I am sorry but we do not have a hitch for the 2019 Hyundai Kona EV all-electric SUV. I called both Curt and Draw-Tite to confirm with their technical teams. If your intent was to use a hitch bike rack we can still help you with a trunk-mount type. The trunk racks confirmed to fit appear on the linked page. The Yakima HangOut 2 # Y02637 is a capable 2-bike rack that is lightweight (only about 15-lbs), cost-effective and still protected by Yakima's Limited Lifetime warranty.

There are a few reasons why electric cars will not have a hitch made for them. One is the limited space under the car due to the battery array. Another is that such vehicles are not rated to tow. And the other is simply low demand on the vehicle, which means it does not make financial sense for these companies to develop and make one.

Hello, I would like to get a trailer hitch to attach to my new Hyundai Kona EV not the petrol version, so that I can use a bike rack. I am aware that the Kona EV is not rated for towing a trailer and I will not be using it for this purpose. Can you confirm if any of your trailer hitches work with the Kona EV? Thanks

I spoke to my contact at Draw-Tite and they informed me that the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 24976 will fit your 2018 Hyundai Kona EV. This hitch is a custom fit that installs using pre-drilled holes in the frame. Once you have the trailer hitch installed you will then measure from the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer edge of the bumper. This measurement will be needed to help select the best bike rack for you. The bike rack also needs to be rated for use with a class I hitch.
