NK'MIP and the Return to the Elliptical Blues: Saturday, April 20th!

The satiated man and the hungry one do not see the same thing when they look upon a loaf of bread. -Rumi, poet and mystic (1207-1273)

Happy Easter and hope you have a great week-end. I know our next book club is at Burns Street on May 21st………………..BUT……..misplaced my piece of paper that says what book we are reading. Could you forward me the title and author…………..PLEASE AND THANK YOU. Hugs from Hildi 😊 Hi Von Bingen! Thanks for delightful card and lovely wishes. We are at Spirit Ridge for weekend with a large group of friends. On book front, we are reading The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah. Fondestos from Lady Darjeeling and Chloë, just off for a walk into Osoyoos while I'm headed to steam room! Happy Easter!! Cheers, Patrizzio!!! ENJOY AND THANK YOU 😊

Hi Patrice, Great to hear you and the rest of the family are alive and well!, of course yes this kind of thing can happen anywhere but I guess it’s quite a shock when happening so close to home.

We are doing well and I have had a few weeks off so am feeling pretty relaxed and have looked after quite a number of personal tasks that have been on the back burner for some time. One of these is getting one of the motorcycles I bought years ago sorted out and ready for sale and the other one road worthy . I applied for and received a collectors plate for the latter and the other already had one so I can take advantage of the cheaper insurance afforded vehicles with this status.

Here is a link to the bike for sale as well as some footage Jess took for me with his new toy, a very high end drone!. Of course I have seen and heard much about these and we have been using them on film sets of late but until spending some time understanding the abilities and quality of the filming I did not really appreciate their capabilities. I have had an iron in the fire work wise for the artist, ( now superintendent of public art for the city of Vancouver), Germaine Koh that I have done many projects for. The project is called the Blue cabin and involves the salvage, restoration and relocation of the last of the squatters shack that were located on the mudflats of North shore for the better part of a century.  These were largely homes to artists and this one was located on the shore of the Mackenzie barge property now being redeveloped by polygon. As well as the relocation we will be building a tiny house / artist residence and both are going to be on a brand new barge which is eco friendly and can be towed from one place to another. Here is some back ground on Germaine and the Blue cabin project. <http://homemadehome.ca> <https://grunt.ca/the-blue-cabin/>

We are at the cabin now and had hoped Gerry , Sue and her sister Lisa as well as Maureen were going to come today but last we heard Sue was not feeling well so don’t know what will happen. Obviously the whole thing with Sue is very concerning and a background stress for her and the family and we are just keeping our positive vibes going and heading her way. We may head back and have dinner at home in Burnaby so it’s not such a trek for them.

Thanks for the pictures and always great to hear what’s going on with you guys. Really glad to hear the healing is coming along so well and look forward to getting to see you when we can. Love to all and we’ll talk soon. Cheers, Al

Hi Little Big Blue Cabin Al! What a fascinating story of more than important, remarkable, local history/architecture! And, once again, Big Molly, is right in the middle of it! Bravo indeed! I knew very little about the artists' dwellings there, other than the fact that Malcolm Lowry lived there, writing Under the Volcano, "not far from the blue cabin, in front of Cates Park", which I learned from the fascinating article. In another interesting twist, Suzanne Dodson was, when I met her, the librarian in charge of Government Publications. Her family, the Cates family, owned a fleet of tugboats in North Van, as well as various other enterprises, I gather. She and her husband Earl, (wealthy in his own right as a successful geologist), were significant benefactors to the UBC Library and one of the wings of the original Main Library is called the Dodson Room.

When I first went to ILL the department was housed in that wing, many years before its quite remarkable restoration and renovation, of course. Both were lovely, lovely people and Suzanne usually/often wore magnificent necklaces and other stunning pieces of jewelry, presents from Earl with a geologist's eye for precious and semi-precious gems, never ostentatious and never worn with a "look at me" attitude. They were lots of fun as well and we always had loads of laughs at various gatherings of one sort or another. Sadly, both died quite a few years ago now but willed considerable amounts from their estates to the Library, so passionately did they feel about both UBC and its Library.

Enjoyed the bird's eye view of your wonderful bike. Jess is really cutting edge. Good for him. There really are so many incredible ways in which this new technology can be used for good, [By fire departments as one example], as opposed for terror or by Peeping Toms. Lady Dar conducted a wedding at Painted Rock last summer and wedding photographer used at least two!

Terribly sorry to hear that Sue isn't feeling up to traveling. As Corinne mentioned, when I told her, not that surprising given her condition. Please send our love to her and rest of family when you next gather, perhaps in Burnaby, as you though might happen.

The Lads are all golfing this morning and The Sisterhood will herd all the children and noisy grandchildren into town to take part in an Easter Egg hunt at Home Hardware. Chloë and Lady Dar left an hour or so ago to meet them there. For my part, I will head to the small, yet well-equipped gym, to ride the Wild Elliptical for an hour or so and then relax in the steam room. Rosemary and Andre will arrive some time this afternoon, driving down from Kelowna. As fate would have it, when Rosemary was at Heathrow, waiting to fly to Vancouver, she happened to chat with a young woman who turned out to be SarahTriggs, the daughter of Don Triggs, former owner of Jackson-Triggs. When Sarah discovered that Rosemary would be in Osoyoos for Easter she insisted Rosemary bring a group along to Culmina for a tasting. She arranged a tasting and Flamin' and Sarge will join the four of us on Sunday at 2:00 pm. Maybe you and Marilyn should jump on the Suzuki and meet us at the winery as I'm sure they'll still remember you two from last year! Take care of each other. Stay well. Happy Easter to one and all. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Pics: Amanada's apricot tree in bloom. I'm hoping I'll be able to dry some of her fruit when it's ripe. Garlic taking off! At dinner last night. Rebecca, with Nicole and her youngest Kiya, in background. Chloë and Beckster; Megan, Ryan's wife, with Kiya; Ryan with Avery, Beckster's eldest and Jaxon, Nicole's eldest; The Sisterhood; Sarge and Chloë; sunset; Nicole and Marvinator.

Thanks for the nice card and I hope you and your family are all happy and well on this Easter Day! Hello Chilliwackians! Really missed you both on weekend and truth be told, you missed a wild time! Cheers, Patrizzio! Pic: In case you accuse me, I didn't take last two pictures. I forgot my camera at the Half Condo and just before midnight the RCMP Porn Squad came to delete card! Looks like a wild time was had by all! Heather

Tummler, Let us know how the one armed bandit is recovering from the failed heist. The Power is out on North Galiano and I’m listening to the jazz program hosted by Margaret Gallagher on my Eton wind up radio . She was interviewing a jazz player that played with the late guitarist, Ed Beckert. The guest was reminiscing about Ed’s sense of humour. Eds’ sense of humour was apparently pretty dry. Ed came from a Mennonite background in rural Manitoba. Ed joked that: the Mennonites did not approve of sex while standing up because it might lead to dancing. This may be an old joke in your circles but I had never heard it. Let us know when you’re coming to the North Island. It is very secure here with a bicycle and a wind up radio.

Hello Salish Sea Peopleages! Great, great joke indeed! What a fascinating story, especially given Lady Dar's connection to Steinbach and the Mennonite community there. As fate would have it, I always listen to Hot Air, if I can, as I really enjoy Margaret Gallagher and her remarkable programming, so I heard what you heard, only not on a wind-up! [we have one for the End of World, so don't worry!] When I heard the take I chortled out loud as Lady Dar has oft repeated her experience in Grade XI when she was a social coordinator, responsible for organizing a hootenanny. [Do you even know what that is?] After the program some of the students did the Bunny Hop around the gym and Lady Dar was called into the principal's office the next day. Raked over the coals, particularly since she was "English", the Mennonites characterization of The Other, and obviously a malign influence.

I enjoyed a pretty good work-out on the elliptical, watching a PGA tournament, somewhere in Florida, I gather, as play was held up, on one hole as a nine foot alligator was in the water hazard, very, very close to the rough of the fairway where one of the players had driven his ball and now needed to make his next shot. After my hour on the machine I repaired to the steam room where I did my arm/shoulder exercises, taking time out in between various moves to take a cool shower, so fierce was the steam. Back to the room to shower and have a bite of lunch. The Sisterhood headed to the adult pool and I had a delicious nap on the easy chair, listening to the opera on CBC Two.

Around 4:00 pm, Rosemary and Andre arrived, from Kelowna, [They had had lunch at Brodo, in Penticton, with Paul Cobbin, my GP. Andre and Paul were at high-school and UBC together.], and Lady Dar brought them upstairs. Rosemary then went to the adult pool with Lady Dar and I stayed with Andre ad he needed to book an airline ticket. Flamin' called a few minutes later to invite us to a VIP tasting at Nk'mip so we toddled along to collect her and Rosemary.

Pleasant enough tasting but I must say that I have always found the staff very over-bearing and insist you taste the wine the way "it is supposed to be done", according to them, with complete disregard as to how one might wish temperature to be, per esempio. No skin off my nose as I'll bloody well drink what I want, how I want it, without all the snobbishness of the right glass, etc. However, did appreciate one of Dennis' comments, during the pouring, that he felt Jackson-Triggs was well worth a visit as their Sunrock series is quite interesting. Must try it sometime as we've never been to their "factory-sized" winery. Will be going to Culmina, as mentioned, out of Oliver, tomorrow, boutique winery Don Triggs started after selling aforementioned operation.

It's hell... You can't miss this!

Loved it! Sandee

Lady Dar is roasting ribs for dinner this evening, along with her fab Feta potatoes. Am sipping a 2018 Fairview Cellars Sauvignon Blanc,14.3%, [bought with you two], as I scribe so life is rather royal, Dear Reader! We will use a luggage trolley to transport the large dishes to Clan Sutherland's suite, in the next building, around 6:30 pm. Take care of each other, in the dark! Stay well. Happy Easter to one and all. Cheers, Patrizzio!

PS: Dear Reader! I forgot my camera at Clan Sutherland's apartment when I returned to our unit so many of the pictures above were not taken by me! Just a warning note in case any are offended by the X-rated shots!!!
