Christmas Fair Double Trouble Blues: Saturday, November 2nd!

Remember when life's path is steep to keep your mind even. -Horace, poet and satirist (65-8 BCE)

Hello Patrizzia and Dave! It was with great, great relief that we received your message yesterday! No need to say how concerned we were. Cannot even begin to understand how traumatic the threat and actuality of The Kincaide Fire must have been for you and the rest of the affected communities. Sorry not to have been in touch sooner, but ever since you and your state were under such devastating attack from the ferocious winds and the terrible wildfires these howling demons have fed and fueled, wasn't sure if you were even capable of receiving messages.

Assumed you might well have had much, much graver issues to contend with, let alone probably being without power. Had a few, intermittent messages from David and Nancy, in Berkeley, who were also without power. Powerful winds there blew part of a large oak onto their roof but it seemed, from initial report, damage was minor.

One of the more recent reports we were aware of, Healdsburg had been evacuated and, by chance, I heard an employee from Robert Young Estate Winery interviewed by Laura Lynch on CBC's Radio One, The Current, shortly thereafter and she said the Kincaide Fire had threatened the winery but staff and firefighters, with the considerable help of the vineyards as firebreaks, managed to save the buildings and homes on the property.

As this winery is about 5 miles southeast of Geyserville I assumed, and dearly hoped your winery has not been threatened but wondered, in fact, if this was the case as Heladsburg had been evacuated. We were praying for the fact that you were safe. At any rate, before all this had happened I did send you a message,on October 21st:

Hi Patrizzia! Trust you and Über Grump are well! Had a note, on October 4th, [when still in Bern, so I apologize for not replying sooner], that my 2017 Futures release, [I was actually unaware that I had this coming!], is available and must be collected by November 30th. I sent a message to David wondering if they might be heading up your way before then. Turns out that they will not so please have wine shipped to their address: 116 Vicente Road, Berkeley, California, 94705-1606. Thanks.

Fondestos from Lady Dar, to you both! Again, so relieved all is well, relatively speaking. When you have a moment let us know how you are. Stay well. Cheers, Patrizzio! Pics: Bridge last Monday night; Flash Tuesday afternoon! Calamity Jane that evening! Thursday morning with Clan Sutherland; Bridge and baby gift; Friday evening with "cousins" Marian and Tim Dunn before lecture.

Glad they are ok. Chloë Thanks Pat for the update. It’s been devastating, such a disaster. Trust your Bridge last Monday was a blast! Enjoy the finals of the rugby World Cup! Go England go! Best regards, Andrew

Hi Patrick, Tomorrow, Nov. 3, is a Sunday dinner, and we'd like to see you and Lady Corrine attend. Rita, my social convener, extends, through her erstwhile secretary, me, our hearty welcome to dinner at 1032 Naramata Rd. 5:30 is about when the bar opens, and dinner... about 6:30. We hope you can make this dinner, but there will be a persistent effort to get you here, sooner rather than later:) Also, how is Chloe? Has she had her baby? Bill Hello Grappa Man! Thank you and Rita for the lovely invitation! We'd be more than delighted to accept, so thank you very much. We'll certainly be knocking on the bar door at precisely 5:30 pm.

Chloë is very well, thank you. We were at the Christmas Craft Fair, at the Convention Centre, an hour or so ago and I left her and Lady Dar to return home as a friend is helping me collect firewood from friends on Spiller Road later this afternoon. They continued on to Craft Fair at the Lakeshore. We brought almost a carload of baby things back from two of her friends in Vancouver so she has done very well on this account. If all goes as planned she will be induced on November 23rd!

Fondestos from The Sisterhood, in absentia, to you both. [I had to call Lady Dar to confirm we were free tomorrow evening.] We are off to see Motherless Brooklyn this evening at 6:00 pm. Really looking forward to see Edward Norton and his latest project. Nothing but very, very positive reviews but I am a fan nevertheless. Thanks again and see you domani! Cheers, Patrizzio! Pics: Christmas Fair: In front of a lavender wreath; with Leigh from Balsamic Bliss; fab wooden toys! Kid Chelene: Collected a truck-load of firewood from friends on Spiller Road, yesterday afternoon. This is the second time Corey has helped me with his truck. This load is for next year as I "seasoned" last year's haul for this winter. Did you know, Dear Naramatians, that same developer of Sendero Canyon is planning a 250 home sub-division, below Robson's property, which will stretch right down to Naramata Road?

Thoroughly enjoyed Motherless Brooklyn. Period recreation of NY, post-WW II, in early '50's, was wonderful. Everyone's superb acting, [Willem Dafoe, Bruce Willis, (Lionel's mentor, Frank Minna, operates a detective agency. Lionel works to solve the mystery of Minna's demise.), Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Alec Baldwin], the intelligent, well-written script and together with Norton's remarkable portrayal of Lionel Essrog, a private investigator who struggles with Tourette syndrome and has a photographic memory, makes the film nothing short of riveting. Everyone, catch it before it leaves town!

I in fact DID buy a bottle of Simi today, knowing that they, like David C., were at least threatened by the fire. Showing support....ANYWAY, I presume you are having wine shipped to us. That is fine. Do you know where in this picture of shipping dates your stash is currently sequestered? AND, just how many truckloads can we expect to be hauled up our driveway to the Casa??? We are glad to help. Good thing we were not planning to drive up there because the last thing that damaged region needs is extra cars (although buying their wine is tip top!) Cactus
Hi Simi Prickly Pear! Haven't heard from Patrizzia yet but I assume shipment will only be one case, Alack and Alas! You haven't commented on damage to your roof. Has offending tree/limb been removed?

Hello Farto's, Another great Monday coming up for you to enjoy and this time under guidance of our very own Tony Cottrell. He calls this hike the larch hike, but who knows, he is always full of surprises!? As usual we will meet at 9:00AM at the new parking area on the NE corner of Atkinson and Warren, opposite the Cherry Lane Mall in Penticton (see attached map). Summerland will need to meet at the IGA parking lot, then carpool to Penticton. After the hike we will relax, socialize and ponder on the next hike for Monday November 11 at a venue of your choice. See you there! Aart the mountain bard
