Kitchen Cabinet Designer and Mortgage Banker Blues: Monday, July 9th!

We now know that memories are not fixed or frozen, like Proust's jars of preserves in a larder, but are transformed, disassembled, reassembled, and recategorized with every act of recollection. -Oliver Sacks, neurologist and writer (9 Jul 1933-2015)

Hi Glasgow! Just wanted you to know that I'm hoping to have my pick of either the trombone or tuba with Sally Marching Band! Like the big brass sound rather than crashing cymbals! Speaking of "crashing" sounds, up at 6:30 am, this morning, yanked awake by the loud crash of splintering glass, from our bathroom. El Diablo had knocked off a stemless wine glass, left next to sink, ready for washing. Fortunately, it landed on the small Turkish carpet we have there so most of the shards, both large, small and tiny did not scatter everywhere in the relatively small space, especially onto the tiles not covered by the carpet or bath mat. Took both outside to shake them out over garbage bin and then put bath mat in washer just in case there remained a few minuscule shards that I couldn't jostle loose. Vacuumed the carpet as soon as Lady Dar had finished vacuuming the bathroom floor with a Dust Buster that produces quite impressive suction.

Really didn't think Duke would knock such an item off counter, especially since I had placed it very close to rim of sink, well back from edge. In past he has focused on Lady Dar's jewelry or a brush, anything that he he can easily flick onto floor, to gain our attention. I suppose now that we are using one of the sinks for wash-up he has far more choice. El Diablo indeed! Kitchen cabinet people and designer Lady Dar has been working with, since inception of project, met here, this afternoon, at 1:30 pm, to make sure everything is still going as planned. Should have a much better idea of when we can expect delivery/installation of cabinets and appliances after she hears back from Dan, chap in charge of producing cabinets, counter tops, etc. He was at meeting and took more measurements of space.

Gyproc crew had finished putting up drywall by the time the meeting was over so he had full access to walls where cabinets will go. Mike, our terrific contractor, just left after finishing taping/"mudding" drywall seams. Guess there will be a bit more dust once he comes back to sand this work smooth. At least this phase should be last of the worst/dirtiest work. Yesterday, Lady Dar did her best to dust off most of the furniture, behind plastic sheeting in the living room, and then covered what she could with large plastic sheets of our own, (mattress covers, old shower curtains), we have kept, since move here, at the end of May, 2015, primarily to use to cover floors when painting. Anyway, quite a start to the day and week!

We are just back from having a meeting with a mortgage consultant at our local RBC branch. Chloƫ has been dealing with a mortgage broker in Vancouver but I wanted to see what RBC would say. Had to take in all sorts of financial paper-work but I feel much more comfortable dealing with an institution we've been dealing with since we bought our first house and subsequent other properties. Just before we left for the appointment, Bill Sliva, (New friend of Chloƫ's, through work, as he has properties that are managed by her company.), dropped by with a huge jar of cherries from his orchard. We had planned to go to his property to pick our own, at his invitation, but by the time it was convenient for us he had already sold most of his crop. Very thoughtful of him and boy are they good!

Must away as I want to watch Episode 4 of The Viet Nam War which we taped over a year ago. Have you seen it?  On a brighter note, watched Stage 2 of Tour before we left for bank and remain simply amazed at the skill sand endurance of those competing. 200 km yesterday and the winner clocked about 71 km/hr as he crossed finish line. Breakaway leader, caught by Peleton, about 15 km before finish averaged about 43 km/hr but it was only 180 km today! Most of the time I can do something else, (messaging, per esempio), with the occasional glance towards the screen, as unless there are mountain stages, many of the early portions are not all that exciting, although I do enjoy informed commentary and spectacular views of countryside, towns, ruins, etc. funnily enough, in a week or so, Tour will pass through or by Valance, small city south of Lyon, about 20 minutes from Chabeuil, tiny village where I was going to leave my bike. Even if my trip had not been cut short I would not have been in vicinity, to run almost nekkid or outlandishly costumed, beside riders, as do so many of fans, as you might know, as I was to leave from Paris on July 10th! C'est la Vie!

What are your plans for Folk Fest? I'll give you a shout when we hit town on Thursday. Unfortunately, for me, won't be bringing my bike along. Anyway, Fondestos to Catherine from Lady Dar, watching her mind-numbing The Young and the Rest of Us. Might have to crack a growlette of Cannery Brewery IPA I just discovered in the back of the fridge! All the best, Glasgow, Cheers, Il Conduttore/Patrizzio! Pics: El Diablo when he isn't smashing wine-glasses into the fireplace! Drywall is now in place! Mike's trailer. City-by-law inspector was around while we were at bank and said trailers not attached to a vehicle cannot be left on the street so we suggested he park it in our back driveway. Miss Etta prefers to stay as far away from her annoying "brother" as possible!

Hello Old Farts, Pete tells me you had an enjoyable hike last week. Sorry I had to miss it. This Thursday, we will climb Green Mountain. Specifically, we will: -meet at 0800 at Home Hardware north parking lot in Penticton (0740 at IGA in Summerland) -carpool and drive to the cattleguard at about km9 on the Apex road -hike to the top of Green Mountain. It has quite an expanse of meadow at the top, which may call us to do some exploring. -return to Penticton for debriefing and refreshment. Care to join? Give me a nod. Cheers, Jim
