La PeƱita Wasp Hive Brick Blues: Thursday, January 31st!

I wish our clever young poets would remember my homely definitions of prose and poetry; that is, prose, - words in their best order; poetry, - the best words in their best order. -Samuel Taylor Coleridge, poet, critic (1772-1834)

The expert came and cemented a brick over the nest on the lovely rafter. The wasps are still swarming around. Love the Mexican solution. Brick looks ridiculous. Bruno and Carol arrive tonight around 6. Off to the Thursday market to shop. Will buy a roast chicken for tonight. Give my love to Gregg and Francesca. Lady Dar

Happy New Year, Elaine! Trust you are well. I certainly must apologize for not being in touch sooner, especially after receiving your fabulously hilarious Xmas card! We've never danced so vigorously or laughed so uproariously! Must away as I need to lay a fire before heading out, ready for when I'm back. Fondestos and Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hello Arizonians! Trust you are both well, although I have heard that you are both suffering from one thing or another. Very sorry to hear that this is so if this is the case. I certainly must apologize for not being in touch sooner but seem to have been very busy here. Must away as I need to ready my gear. David will collect me after dropping Margaret off at HH. Fondestos and Cheers, Patrizzio!
Pics: Cartwright, AaC2, David and I. Had a great chat with Margaret after Cartwright hike as she came to The Beanery to collect David. Was pleased to talk to her as I knew about both of them but had never met until a few weeks ago, on Campbell hike, close to Firewood Central! I do hope I'll be able to cycle with her at some point.

Good Afternoon, Bridge Sisterhood! Absentee votes are all in and we have enough for two tables this coming Monday. Hip Hip Hooray! Judy Blue, please be so kind as to bring your bridge table or else I could pop by over the weekend and collect it, if that is easier for you. Let me know and I'll plan accordingly. Look forward to seeing everyone at 6:30 pm at 611 Burns Street. Thanks and Cheers, Patrizzio! Sasquatch Dave and Snow-Plow Polga! Trust you are both showered and changed, by now, and sipping on a hot drink of some kind. Many, many thanks, it goes without saying, to Unstoppable New Knee Man for introducing Rolly Polly and I to this wonderful snowshoeing landscape, almost in our own back yards.

While the day was quite overcast, the sky dull, the snowshoeing was anything but! The almost knee-deep snow, when bushwhacking, over dead fall aplenty, would have made T Rex jump for joy, knowing that whenever an easy path presented itself, you always directed us to take the one less or never travelled! The silence was divine, almost completely unbroken, except for the crunch of our shoes and the occasional distant sound of Pearly Whites' voice carrying all the way from Green Mountain! Your knowledge of the topography of area and its animal inhabitants, so freely and generously shared, made the outing even more enjoyable. I for one could not have been more delighted to have been introduced to yet another pearl in the snowshoe necklace which adorns our hills and dales.

Finally, by virtue of my self-appointed authority, I hereby induct you into the Dinosaur Leader Hall of Fame, forever after to be known as Diplodocus Dave, much to the annoyance of Tyrannosaurus Tinka, I'm sure! Thanks again, for all your chauffeuring. Stay well. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Idleback and More: David said he was really tired when we finally returned to car. He is only lately managing to exercise without taking pain killers for his knee surgery. Olga Polga was really terrific, in terms of taking the brunt of trail blazing. Being in the lead was really a workout, given how deep the was the snow for a goodly part of bushwhacking. Particularly impressive given her relative lack of such activity while in Mexico.

Most of the time, when I was in front, [same for others as well, of course, when leading], my shoes were "swimming" under the snow as it was easier to plough below the crust than to lift one's feet up to the surface. In the trees there was often much dead-fall so one had to be careful going over logs, etc., but when crossing a number of small, frozen lakes, one would sink almost below one's knees with each step, in spite of one's snowshoes.

However, while it was reasonably difficult passage we took things slowly so it was most enjoyable exercise. [I could really feel it in my thighs and upper legs last night. Not really sore but certainly a decent workout!] Walking back to the car, on the service road, from where we exited the forest, was so easy I said I was going to trek all the way home!

I had invited my companions in to have a java, or something stronger, when we were back at Burns but David had to collect Margaret at HH and Rolly Polly felt chilled. Both wanted to shower and change so we said goodbye.

I had a steaming mug of java myself and once I'd finished editing photo album I set about making a turnip puff and Shepherd's Pie. Can do former from memory, [although I forgot to add an egg!], and only looked at recipe, for latter, to see which herbs I needed. The Boy was very helpful, hopping from one counter to the the other as I prepared things. Had everything finished by close to 8:30 pm so had a quick shower and then ate my dinner, tomatoe/Feta salad and small container of ingredientes, (potatoe/meat/veg filling), which didn't fit into the two Pyrex casseroles I'd used. I started Black Earth Rising, [Same director, Hugo Blick, of The Honourable Woman], a couple of nights ago and am enthralled. You must watch it. John Goodman, in particular, is terrific, as are rest of cast, most of whom I don't know.

Dear Family and Friends -- My apologies for this mass email and for being incommunicado for the last while. I have some good excuses/reasons, though, which I will now share. Peter and I had (as some of you already know) a busy lead-up to the Christmas season with a great event-packed visit to Vancouver, Victoria, and Denman Island in early December. We flew down and back and made use of a car-rental "freebie" Peter had from a previously-cancelled business trip. We then had a bit of a hiatus with a quiet Christmas in Naramata shared with friends Carol and Gerry Kenyon.

At the 11th hour (almost literally) we decided to fly down to Vancouver for a New Year's party and overnight at Anne and Byron Stewart's. This is when some things started to go awry. The airplane did not seem to be properly heated on either of the flights and I came down (again!) with that god-awful cough, which has really laid me low. I'm still not over it. I just feel slightly "off" all the time, and I tire very easily. Of course, that could be due to my advanced age ... but we will not go there.

And just to add to my stress level, Peter and I decided to list our Naramata property for sale. We reasoned that sooner was better than later in a market that was definitely cooling off. To our great surprise (and our agent's) and relief we got an offer after the first showing! With minimal to-ing and fro-ing over the price and completion date, we made a deal. The buyers are also going to take the tractor and other vineyard equipment (yeah!) and are also interested in taking some of the furniture (yeah!!) and artwork (more on this in a moment). This is the good news. The less-than-good news is the completion date is May 31st. According to the latest news, our condo in Victoria won't be ready for occupancy until July at the earliest. Our experience with our former condo purchase tells us that it may be even later that we can actually move there, and we will have to find a place to store our stuff until then.

This is the bad news. Or is it? We could put this "found" time to good use with a short-term rental somewhere exotic (or not so much) and/or a road trip, and/or a cruise, or ...? Hopefully, we will not have too much to put into storage. There is only a small number of items (furniture, art, etc.) that will find a home in the new condo. It is such a different size and type of space from the Naramata house. As I mentioned the new owners are interested in buying some of the furniture and artwork. I'd like to give friends and family first dibs, though. So, if there is anything you think you'd like to have and you can arrange some way to get it away before the end of May please speak up and let us know. We'd love to see everything go to another good home if it can't go to ours. The real estate agent had an incredible video made of the interior of the house and the property as a whole. Here is the link if you'd like to see it and to refresh your memory of what's there. <https://yourguide.com/3555_n_naramata_rd_naramata_bc?page=tour>

Once again, my apologies for this mass mailing and duplicate mailing for those who already know our big news. I'm still pretty much in a state of shock. I think Peter may be as well but he is dealing with it better than I. He is in Ecuador until tomorrow. Ann Curry and Gary Albach arrive next Wednesday for a week in the desert with us and the celebration of Gary's birthday. Ann and Byron are also due to visit in February. We're back in Naramata on March 10 and then the real work of getting ready to move starts. Wish us the best of luck with this. Cheers for now, Lynne P.S. Please note that for the duration of our stay in PD, my Shaw email account does not allow me to send messages nor to reply to messages sent to that account. This gmail account works tickety-boo, though. šŸ˜ Strike while the iron is hot!

Monday it is then...not Wednesday? Hello again Bridge Sisterhood! Green Gables Girl pointed out my error in date assignation! Bridge will be on Wednesday, February 6th, not Monday, February 4th. Sorry for the confusion. Thanks Anne. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hey Pat, We are going to swing by after my work tomorrow at 6pm to sip on a beer and say hi to Gregg and Fran. You do not need to worry about us for dinner. We don’t want to completely intrude C

Hello Sendero Canyon Freeloaders! Great that we'll have a chance to see you before you wing your way to sunnier climes! You are more than welcome to stay for dinner in spite of your false protestations of non-intrusion! I've plenty of overlefts from before Lady Dar went away so it would be terrific if you could help me finish them! Lurch and Grogg said they would arrive mid-to-late afternoon so we'll be fine until you, The Terrible Twosome and Beckster darken our front door. Give me shout as to your ETA so that I can put some antibiotic ointment on the overlefts before you arrive! On the other hand, if you are serious about not intruding you could all eat on the back patio. Dress warmly! Cheers, Patrizzio! PS: Album is from today's outing. A great spot for you folks!

Hi everyone - Joan had her hip replacement surgery this morning and all appears to have gone well. She is out of the recovery room and in her private room (with no view) at UBC Hospital. She will be here one night at least. We'll find out tomorrow afternoon if she has recovered enough to be released or will need to stay over longer. She is refusing to let me take and share any photos which is unfortunate as there was one spectacular test where blue stuff was put up her nostrils and then this device emitting red laser like light was inserted. Dramatic and visually interesting to say the least. I'll let you know when she is back at home. Cheers...Paul

Early Morning Cat Tussle Blues: Wednesday, January 30th!

The power to command frequently causes failure to think. -Barbara Tuchman, author and historian (30 Jan 1912-1989)

Hi Patrick, I enjoyed hearing your voice yesterday. I’ve put $400 in our joint acct. but will add another $50. So please deposit $450. Just killed about 20 wasps in my bedroom. Hopefully something will be done today. Can’t turn the light on with out them appearing. Cloudy morning here. Off to fashion show around 11 am hope the weather is good as it is outside in Guayabitos where they have the Monday market. Hugs to my favourite man, Cora Lee Hi WASP Wasp Woman et al, especially 94 Year Old!!

Wonderful to talk with my Favourite Darling as well! I was "allowed" to sleep in until just before 6:00 am this morning when I got up to present the felines with their ration of pumpkin. I was surprised that neither wanted out afterwards. Etta is on shower mat and Duke gazing out front window after searching for an elastic under the pile of papers I had bedside my computer. Most are on the floor now! Speaking of which, I found, in bathroom basket, a BC Book World, , featuring Wade Davis, and wondered if you wanted it saved. If not I'll use it for fireplace as I'm running short of paper, not having a regular supply of Globe & Mail! Even asked Corey, yesterday afternoon when both of us were out in back lane, [Tiger Lily and friends dropping large rocks on ice, smashing patches into smithereens!], if he had any old newspapers/flyers. He said he did and I found a small plastic bag hung on back door later on. Will have to thank him when next I see him or ask one of his customers to do it for me!

Have transferred funds so you will be able to lead the good life until you can overcharge Chooch and Brunello! Must away as I want to lay a fire but before that I have to play with The Boy, who is murmurling, pathetically, looking at me with the saddest eyes in the world! Plan to start watching Black Earth Rising as I noticed trailer for it is now showing on Netflix. According to site it is aboutthe prosecution of international war criminals: The story centres on Kate Ashby, who works as a legal investigator in the London law chambers of Michael Ennis. When Kate's adoptive mother Eve takes on a case prosecuting an African militia leader, the story pulls Michael and Kate into a journey that will upend their lives forever. Take care of yourself, Duhlink! Much love from your favourite felines and your Favourite Man! Cheers, Patrizzio!

[Todd Duncan, Anne Brown " Bess, You is My Woman" Original Porgy and Bess (1940)] PS: Just had a note from Olga Polga and she wants to go snowshoeing with David and I tomorrow so I 'll ask her to bring Becoming. She said she would do so if I paid her $75 USD! Anyway, glad she is feeling well enough to get out. Also, looks like we'll play bridge next Wednesday as a number cannot make Monday. I have offered to host. I was supposed to play yesterday afternoon, with Jos, at Anglican Church in Summerland, but she and Aarturos had to meet with their lawyer. Apparently they are in the initial stages of a very messy, complicated lawsuit over collapse of the bank at the front of their property. Neighbours claim it had nothing to do with leak in their water pipe in spite of city and geo-technical reports to the contrary. The owners have their house up for sale so it is a nasty situation all around. Apparently they refused to negotiate any shared costs for remediation, hence law-suit.

Had a wonderful birthday weekend, stayed with Pam ,we got our hair done
Went out for lunch, had pedicures, ordered in Chinese food, and watched a movie, as it was too cold to go out. On Sunday we went to book launch of My Magical Moon, Emmett & Quinn both read a page, they sold over 100 books at the launch. At 4:30 we went to restaurant for birthday dinner, 20 of us, Italian family owned place. A great weekend, I am a very lucky Mother & Grandma.

Was - 40 this morning when I checked thermometer out side my bedroom window. Talked to Corinne yesterday, also Patti & Rachael. Mar is working one day a week at work & one day at home. She has appointment with Dr soon to see how things are at this time. Too cold to do anything outside, some schools were closed, no buses. George is still working on floor in hallway ,it wasn’t level so had to get some leveling cement to see if that works, nothing is ever simple! Looks like you & Chloe are taking care of each other. I had a nice talk on the phone with her. Take care, Clara

Hi Rosita! Trust you are not frozen solid! I'm watching Black Earth Rising. Do you know this series? Well worth watching as far as I'm concerned and it keeps my mind off my terrible loneliness, bitter cold, spoiled cats and empty malt bottles! Take care of yourself. Much Love and Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hi Patrizzio, Thanks for the welcome back and yes I'd like to join you and David for a snowshoe tomorrow morning. What time should I be at your place? and are we packing a bit of a lunch? As for Bridge I am not able to play tonight (Wednesday Jan. 9) but any other night will be great. Please let me know. Hugs, Olly Hi Rolly Polly! Great that you are going to join us for Idleback! David will be here around 9:15 am so if you plan to arrive shortly after 9:00 am that would be fine. We will both pack something to eat and drink. If you could bring Becoming that would be much appreciated. Bridge will probably be next Wednesday evening, February 6th, here, so let me know if you can make that date. Look forward to seeing you. Chatted with Lady Dar yesterday and she sends her fond regards. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hello Ski Bums! Trust your tour of the slopes is going well. Just checking in to confirm your plans while here. Do you have any idea when you will arrive on Friday, February 1st? No big deal but I was planning to prepare dinner that night so just give me some idea of ETA. Did you still wish to go out for dinner one night? Either Friday or Saturday is fine with me. I thought that with travelling on Friday, a night in might be more relaxing but you decide. Furthermore did you want me to make a reservation somewhere? Do you wish to include Chloƫ as she is around this coming weekend. Furthermore, are you planning on skiing here at Apex? Saturday? If so, Chloƫ and I might go snowshoeing at Snowflake, near Apex. Anyway, let me know and I'll/we'll plan accordingly. Stay well. Travel safely. Fondestos and Cheers, Il Conduttore! Pics: Duke last night!

Ahoy! Just arrived Silver Star-Mountain # 4... Dinner in Friday would be great-should be there by mid/late afternoon. We can take you & Chloe out Saturday-your pick! Will have wine and single malt in tow. Not skiing Apex-we go to Big White on Sunday. Look forward to seeing you! Cheers, G& F
Hi Silver Star Stars, et al! Great that all goes well. I have just made a reservation for Saturday, 7:30 pm, at Front Street Brasserie. On another matter, Chloƫ mentioned that Kid Chelene and Beckster would like to see you both so perhaps I'll let you contact them directly, to make whatever arrangements might work for both parties.

Enjoy your time at Silver Star and will look forward to seeing you on Friday, whenever you pull into town. Give me a shout when you are close and I'll have Etta and Duke clean up your room as it hasn't been done since you were last here! [El Diablo has chewed up all his elastic bands so he wondered if you have any old gut guitar strings!] Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hi again, Bidsters! To date, Dianna, Judy Blue, and O Susannah, [with much arm-twisting and hair-pulling], have agreed to play this coming Wednesday so game is on. If we have at least two others, Green Gables Girl will attend so those non-committed, to date, please advise so that I can plan accordingly. Thanks and Cheers, Fancy Socks Social Co-Ordinator! Hello Fancy Socks Coƶrdinator, If we have enough for 2 tables I can play Wednesday next week. Cheers, Jos See you next Wednesday Patrick. Dianne Hi Dianna! Great! Working on two table now. Looks promising! Cheers, Patrizzio! I am with Jos , if there are enough for 2 tables I will come Wednesday , if not you 4 bid like crazy!
I would like to play next week if there is room. Either day works. Carol If you need me I could join you either day Carol

Hi again, Tao Mountain Mistress! Sorry I have not replied sooner but have been pretty busy with hiking, snowshoeing, malt tasting and bridge so no time for editing. At any rate, with respect to your writing, I reiterate, I am not an editor, but a struggling writer myself, inasmuch as I wish to improve my powers of description, as best I can, mainly for correspondence and diary/journal purposes. From what I gather your urge to write seems to stem from a deeper creative urge/need. That being the case, write on and lose/find yourself in words. However, from what little I do know, piling adjective upon adjective upon adjective does not necessarily enliven every scene. In fact, the opposite usually occurs. By chance I came across the following quotation this past Sunday: Sit down and put down everything that comes into your head and then you're a writer. But an author is one who can judge his own stuff's worth, without pity, and destroy most of it. -Colette, author (28 Jan 1873-1954)

From the relatively brief passages you've provided, my frank opinion is that the characters you present do not have an organic existence springing from any gripping plot development, set against no more than a "paper moon" background. I do not really have any real sense of individuality of your either your dogs or gods, rather cardboard cutouts moving clumsily, even though soaring, across/through a confusing landscape. As an avid reader myself, I find that too, too many superlatives drown the narrative, especially when it is not clear where the story is actually going. These may well not be important issues for you, Jean, but for most readers, myself included, obviously, I think you will find that they are, and critically so.

That being said, continue to write, as you feel compelled to do if this urge cannot be denied, particularly if it brings satisfaction. On the other hand, you might well consider taking some sort of basic creative writing course that might well introduce you to consider some of the things that I have mentioned. Enough said. Stay well. Write feverishly, but economically, sparingly, at least according to Colette! Fondestos and Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hi again, Fashionista and Fashion Show Goer! Finally managed, with great trepidation, to get around to replying to Jean. With respect to PAG, Loving Mug Chili Cook-off is on same night as Becoming discussion. Unfortunate as I would have liked to go. Told Chloƫ I'd buy her ticket but think she might have a meeting that night. As you probably read, Grogg and Lurch arrive on Friday for two nights so it will be fun to catch-up. I'm providing dinner that night and then Grogg will take us, (Chloƫ included), to the Front Street Brasserie on Saturday. Looking forward to seeing Lisa and John again as well. Must away to try to understand your printer's installation instructions. Will wake Duke up so that he can help me. Etta is already waiting on the office chair. Technocats!!! Love and Cheers, Patrizzio/Dad!

Tummler, good to hear from you. Thanks for sharing the snowshoe journey with the rainforest moss-heads. Some of us miss the snow. We remember fondly our snowshoe adventure with you and Morita - her first time on the snow. All is well at Ukiyo. Spring appears to be upon us here with flowers already showing - I hope not prematurely.

We rode past your old digs on GI on the weekend and remembered fondly the Islay Inn and even the questionable proprietors. Rode a dipsy-doodle around False Creek for old time sake. It is time you returned to the coast for some serious training. Let us know how the fitness regime is shaping up and when you go under the knife. And what the rehab looks like. And if you are planning a journey to the lower mainland. Fond regards to Senora Corrina et al., W, CJ y Morita

PatriƧio, I was just thinking the same thing(!). I have certainly shunned my computer (if not my smart phone) ever since your xmas party and here we are end of January. But, I have been making progress! I now park my car in the garage! Went off today and bought a (compound) chop saw (SLIDING, Patrick), and as I no doubt mentioned, hope to work on some fun stuff amidst the chaos of unbridled hoarding. Speaking of the guilty party, my Dad seems to be doing well, he has a private room now.

I’ve been taking care of Juno while Rebecca is in NZ, but other than that, I am sort of trying to figure out my next move. After tomorrow, that is. The truck is 1/2 loaded, need to top it up and do a recycling run. Can’t wait! After that, there is the Mar 4th Whitecaps opener. Hmmm, … I need to get out more. Are you in town anytime soon? Branko

Light Bulb Blues: :Tuesday, January 29th!

A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against its government. -Edward Abbey, naturalist and author (29 Jan 1927-1989)

A fellow of mediocre talent will remain a mediocrity, whether he travels or not; but one of superior talent (which without impiety I cannot deny that I possess) will go to seed if he always remains in the same place. -Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, composer and musician (27 Jan 1756-1791)

Rosetta Stone
While I wasn't awakened by Alarm Clock Boy, I stumbled out of bed at 5:30 am to go to the bathroom so decided I might as well give them their breakfast appetizer which in the rotation was going to be wet cat food. Both licked their platters clean and then Duke headed outside. Miss Etta, for her part, would have nothing to do with the -8Āŗ C temperature and scurried off to the bathroom and the shower mat on the heated floor. before hand I shut the door to the Rumpus Room so that The Boy wouldn't be able to invade the bedroom and start batting objects around in an attempt to wake his lazy Master. Did manage to sleep until just after 8:00 am so felt refreshed as I must admit I was pleasantly tired after yesterday's hike and congenial evening of bridge. Then up to deal with grumpy felines, care and feeding thereof Miss Etta is always easy to please but El Diablo is more than a caution!

Hi Patrick; Thank you for inviting me to join your group on Thursday. I think I will join Jim French on Friday, (Green Mtn.), as he claims he will be leading a slower group and will let the others exhaust themselves. Many Thanks and Best Regards. Chuck Hi Patrick; This might be a duplicate 'cause I wasn't sure of your e-mail address. Thanks for the invite to join you and David on Thursday. I think I will follow Jim French on Green Mtn. as he offers a slower group that I should be able to keep up with. Thanks, Chuck Hi Chuckster! You had the right address. Thanks for letting me know.Too, too bad for David and myself. We'll miss you but perhaps another time. Hello to Green Mountain Gang. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hi David! Just heard from both Al and Chuck and neither will join us so we are all alone and palely loitering on the shores of Idleback! Are we still on for you to drop my our house after you take Margareta to HH? Let me know and I'll do whatever is easiest for you. Thanks and Cheers, Patrizzio! I will swing by your place after HH and the Farts meeting up. David Hi Idleback Boy! Thanks very much. I'll be ready to roll. Cheers, Patrizzio! Hi Olga Polga! Trust flight went well and you are starting to re-adjust to winter! Not sure what your plans are for this coming Thursday, regarding snowshoeing, if at all but you are more than welcome to join David and myself, if you would like to do so. As well, I'd like to start on Becoming so I can drive over to your place if you won't be in Penticton in next few days. Thanks and Cheers, Patrizzio!

A Girl, a Guy, and a Gob

Hi Ragin' Bull, Calamity and Giggenheimer! Nobody seems to have broken radio silence in ages. Trust all goes well. Very busy here, with hiking, snowshoeing, bridge and malt tasting so no time to be lonely. Phone rang this morning and I assumed it was ChloĆ« calling about dinner arrangements this evening. Turned out it was La PeƱita so had a long chat with Lady Dar and she is having a grand, busy, though relaxing, time as well. Olga Polga left yesterday and next couple, Chooch and Brunello, from Qualicum Beach, arrive in a few days. Let me know how everyone is and what your plans are, for both a visit and Life in General! Fondestos and Cheers, Il Conduttore/Patrizzio! Pics: Cartwright: AaC2, chap with me is David. Bridge at Ann Brown's home.

I had a fairly lazy day today so it probably had to do with talking to Lady Dar and her lethargy is now rubbing off! [Bit like Agneta's Reiki over the airwaves!] Late morning I picked up two Kitchen Sink memberships and then went to Rona to buy some light bulbs for ChloĆ«, heading to Sendero afterwards. She was there for lunch and had removed cover and bulbs day before. She mentioned that bulbs had been burned out for some time but Shruti never mentioned this to ChloĆ« until a day or so ago! Anyway, she put them in and replaced cover so fixture is now working.

Many of her outside pot-lights are not working either. She took out one over front door and I'll see about buying same kind. I want her to talk to somebody in maintenance/on strata council as this should not be happening with such frequency. I think the bulbs used might be drawing too much power. Need Dusty! Anyway, I'll see if I can find some with lower wattage and see if that makes a difference. Stopped at SuperStore for a few groceries as I'll be preparing one dinner for Grogg/Lurch. Will send a message to see which evening they would like to go out and where. Grogg said they wanted to take me out. I assume ChloĆ« will be invited but you never know as he might only have enough wine for the three of us!

Back home I prepared some boneless thighs I had marinated day before as well as the butternut squash Lynne had given me before they left.

Had fried Haloumi with avocado and tomatoe for appetizers and ate this while we caught up with Sunday's recordings, first watching Season Finale of Outlander. Another cliff-hanger, of course! Unfortunately Duke hit Delete Series button when he was settling on ChloĆ«'s lap!

With dinner we watched latest episode of True Detective and then finished off evening with last two episodes of Fargo, Duke back and forth on ChloĆ«'s lap and then he settled on my gloves/toque on barrel stave platter on cabinet bed, Miss Etta on office chair, her seemingly favourite spot of late. Started first episode of Season Two but just enough to see what it was like before ChloĆ« headed home. Etta went out but Duke stayed in to floss!
Pics: The Boy reading BC World! ChloĆ« rejected Painted Rock Merlot so we ended up having an 8th Generation Pinot Noir which was exceptional, I must say! Cyclops and Clam Shell!

Rosita's 94th Birthday Blues: Monday, January 28th!

Sit down and put down everything that comes into your head and then you're a writer. But an author is one who can judge his own stuff's worth, without pity, and destroy most of it. -Colette, author (28 Jan 1873-1954)

Hello Sunshine Snowbooters! A truly well-deserved round of thanks to Carlos for leading today's hike, [in spite of several petty palace revolts and egregious, unconstitutional over-rulings], in such incredible weather, over such terrific terrain, whether covered in snow or pine needles, and with such magnificent vistas of, in Kranky King Ottokar's inimitable characterization, Slumberland and environs. The company was more than congenial, the barbed wire forgiving and the sky as blue and cloudless and one could ever wish for. All the very best to one and all. Cheers, Patrizzio!

A few shots to remind you of the lovely day we had. <https://photos.app.goo.gl/LT4Z4cjjDcdFNzxr7>Al Hello T Rex, et al! Thanks for the colourful snaps of today's outing. Much appreciated. As I mentioned, after java, David and I will be shoeing at Idleback tomorrow. Chuck might join us and as David will be delivering Margaret to the HH parking lot to join group going up Green Mountain, [I feel it is too, too steep for me. David is recovering from a knee replacement, this past June, so steep descents are not something he can handle just yet. I've never been to Idleback but since ChloĆ« lives in Sendero Canyon this area would be ideal for her so another reason I'd like to get to know it.], you and/or Chuck could connect with David at HH and then pop by my place, en route to Idleback.

Anyway, let me know and we'll plan accordingly. Thanks and Cheers, Patrizzio! Thank you, Patrick, but I have to pass. Can't make it. Al Too, too bad T Rex. We'll miss you but perhaps another time. Cheers, Patrizzio!

> Hi Aarturos and Bridge Partner! Thanks again for the marvellous snaps, [Now I can prove I was on hike!], as well as all the messages arranging hikes, etc. Bravo! As well, everyone who tasted Highway 97's Hefeweizen enjoyed it immensely. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Good Afternoon Patrick 9:15 AM this coming Thursday for an Idelback snow shoe works well. I have to deliver Margaret to the HH parking lot as she is going up Green Mtn on the Farting shoes. Anyone else is more than welcome from the Farts or elsewhere. I would think we will be doing about 3 hours of shoeing (+/-) with about 3/4 hr driving each way from Penticton. Flat shoeing on old trail / roads with a little bit of exploring maybe? Pls confirm this has worked to you if you would David Did you receive my e mail to your other address Patrick?

Hello Chaos Theory Man! I thought you were supposed to be beach-combing not ruminating on the collapse of the universe! At any rate I sent along UW video link to good friend Maggie Carr, now in Parksville, and she enjoyed it immensely. On a related note, read your entry in the latest UW Magazine's Class Acts. Guess you'll be up for an award as Penticton's Most Published Person! Olga Polga was to fly back from La PeƱita today so Lady Dar will have a few days by herself until friends from Qualicum Beach arrive. Fondestos to Vittoria. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hello to The Bridge Sisterhood! Thanks so much to Anne of Green Gables, [NB is close enough!], for hosting this evening. The drinks and nibblage were simply wonderful and tables close enough to make Hurry Up and Be Dummy, easy peasy! This being the case group has decided you, Anne should host, permanently

I know a number of you cannot play next Monday so Wednesday was floated as another possibility. Please let me know your preference/availability and I'll plan accordingly. In order to give Green Gable Girl a tiny break, I'm delighted to host whichever evening we decide upon. Thanks and Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hi Patrick. Thanks for thr photos. Either Monday or Wednesday works for me. Dianne Hi fancy socks!!! I can play Wednesday Judy Patrick, I prefer Monday, but can also do Wednesday.

Susan

Hi all! Here is the info for the snowshoe outing this coming Thursday.  We are planning to get to the top of Green Mountain.  We will: -meet at 0900 at Home Hardware north parking lot in Penticton (0840 at IGA parking lot in Summerland) -carpool and drive toward Apex, parking near the cattleguard at km 8 -snowshoe up the trail to the top of Green Mountain -return and find a place for debriefing and a coffee

This trail is primarily uphill.  With my old legs, I intend to keep a fairly leisurely pace.  If others wish to be speedier, they might want to take time to explore the meadows at the top of Green Mountain. Please remember to dress for the cold weather…….layers of clothes and good mitts and headwear. Are you interested?  If so, please let me know.  Thanks! This will be the last reminder to let me know if you wish to remain on the Old Farts mailing list.  I will be “cleaning it up” very shortly. Cheers, Jim

Hello again Fartograms! Already an email for the next hike, because we are SO ORGANIZED! For next Monday, February 4th, we will, under the leadership of outdoor guru Al Tinka, explore the Eneas Mountain area from the Garnet Lake. It should be easy, slow and approx. 3 hrs duration. As usual, we will get together at 9:00AM latest at the IGA parking lot in Summerland. Pentictonites will gather at 8:40AM at the HH carpool parking lot in Penticton, then carpool to the IGA in Summerland. After the hike we will enjoy a beverage of you choice to recap the experience of another wonderful OF hike. Aren't you happy that we can do this together? See you there! Aarturos

Robbie Burns and the Whisky Tasting Blues: Sunday, January, 27th!

There is a point beyond which even justice becomes unjust. -Sophocles, Greek dramatist (495?-406 BC)

Mom’s birthday It is tomorrow she will be 94. Can you please send her a fab ecard. Thanks Love Cora Lee Good Morning Pushy La PeƱitan, et al! You are just as demanding as The Boy. I just heard a thunk from our bathroom and he was waiting by the sink, having flipped a small sack of cosmetics, I assume, and a container of some unguent onto the floor, his look asking why I had taken so long to respond. And this after he had already had a drink from kitchen sink!

I gather you are upgrading our Netflix subscription. Pushy Mother, Pushy Daughter! Furthermore, when I went to collect six bottles of wine, Altitude, at UB, I was delighted to see that your card had been charged! Just feel pleased that I didn't order a dozen! However, might have to go back for another six at the rate that Chloƫ demands wine with most meals I prepare! On the bright side, your new Capital One card arrived so you'll have unlimited credit when you return.

With respect to Rosita's card do you want it sent from the Durston Clan or simply our immediate family? Let me know and I'll select something. I can also send you the message, before posting card, so that you can edit it!

Finished Dogs of Berlin last night. I thought there were two more series so another cliff-hanger. ChloĆ« has very kindly offered to drop Norm and I off at malt tasting, this afternoon, and collect us afterwards so we won't have to worry about driving. Another sunny, sunny day but crisp enough so that snow isn't really melting all that much.

Please tell Olga Polga to give me a shout when she is back and settled so that we can arrange book exchange. Chloƫ would like to read it afterwards. She is hosting her next book club and is having an Oscar party. Think Robbie is flying up in a week or so. Social whirlwind at Sendero! Grogg and Lurch arrive this coming Thursday for two nights. Busy time although I have finally managed to read installation instructions for printer. Might have to fly Ragin' up. If I do, will use your Capital One card! Must away as I hae to figure out what to say to Jean! Fondestos to Rolly Polly and Buona Fortuna with her packing. Trust your dinner at Aventi's goes well. Much Love, Duhlink, Patrizzio!

The card would just be from us. I have already sent a message as have Ayn and Patti to be read out at the dinner tonight after the book launch for the book Marlos friend wrote. Marlo is going to read them out.

Had a very loud wedding party across the street last night. Music stopped at 10:30 started at 3 pm but generator noise continued for another hour. They even had a huge bouncy castle for the kids. It was in the huge estate where we went to the fashion show, Agneta’s friend Thomas. I guess he rents it out for a big sum for events.

I miss the cats but have been visiting La Nochai Agneta’s cat who is an older Duke. He had cobwebs on his head yesterday and a leaf which I took off.
Went up to Margaret’s house for drinks before dinner in Los Ayala. They have a lovely place, great pool deck and courtyard.

Olly off for a nap before we go for a walk and lunch. Just finished another great book. And downloaded some more. Plus walked to Olly’s friend, Arlene, yesterday and exchanged 3 books with her library she has for guests at bungalow they rent out. Will have a quiet few nights until Carol and Bruno arrive on Thursday around 6 pm. But will attend Agneta’s book club on Monday afternoon and charity fashion show on Wednesday at 11 am which includes lunch. Love to you all, Cora Lee

Hi Wedding Party Victim! You seem to be fated to become involved with wedding parties of some sort, wherever you travel, India, Mexico, where next? You sound busy. Thanks for update. Here is text of what will be sent out tomorrow: Happiest of Happy Birthdays to our Favourite 94 Year Old Mother, Mother-in-Law, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother! Hip Hip Hooray! For She's a Jolly Good Fellow! Fondestos, Love and Cheers, from Tinsel Town, Sendero and Burns Street!

Let me know if this meets with your high editorial standards. Just chatted with Norm when I was outside getting firewood and he'll pop over just after 2:30 pm when Chloƫ said she would be here. Love and Cheers, Patrizzio! Enjoy your Robbie Burns dinner and whiskey! Hi to Norm, C

Hello Mexico and Others! Had a grand malt tasting and lovely meal this evening. Chloƫ dropped us off and we walked home after event. Karen, winemaker at Red Rooster was a next table. Dame Judith and Kevin are well although Judi has a very bad cold so I didn't smooch her. Off to watch next episode of Four Seasons in Havana. Fondest, Love and Cheers, Patrizzio!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR TASTING EVENTS: Please note the following changes.

1.  FOR THIS EVENT ONLY -  The new Riverside Caterers have not received their Interac/Credit Card machine as yet.  If it does not arrive by Sunday you have two options:  CASH - or allow Christine to take down your credit card information and she will input when the machine arrives.  PLEASE NOTE:  The serving staff working behind the bar for this event and also our pourers are not being tipped as they are the "Foodilicious" staff not the staff of the Breakfast Club Caterer's who are looking after our culinary needs for this event only.

2. FOR ALL EVENTS - There is to be no more tipping up of chairs to safe spots for your friends who have not as yet arrived.  You can use a jacket, or scarf whatever, but tipping up the chairs are a hazard.  This is at the request of the new caterers - an Insurance issue.

3.  FOR ALL EVENTS - If you have a full table of 8 I will reserve the table for you - not 7  -  EIGHT.  I will require the names of the 8 people who will be at your table.  We will not squeeze 9 onto a table.

4.  FOR ALL EVENTS -  Please remember that though you may request a guest and an invitation is sent out, that is not a guarantee of being able to purchase a ticket.  After the member's early bird ticket time period is up, invitations are sent out to the Guest List and the Membership Waitlist.  Tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis. So advise your guest to purchase their tickets immediately.  Also, ensure that they have the Eventbrite e-mail in their contact list.  Many of the guests invites are ending up in their junk mail.

5.  FINALLY, we are working diligently with the new catering company to make sure that all our upcoming events are a success.  Christine and Chef NeNe have literally bent over backwards to work with the outside catering company for this upcoming event.  All transitions are difficult, both sides have a lot to learn.

If you have any questions please e-mail me and I will do my best to reply.  It has been a busy process getting the Robbie Burns Event co-ordinated and I for one am looking forward to a great evening and some exceptional tasting experiences. See you on Sunday Judi Ritcey, Event Co-0rdinator SOWTS

Good Evening Malt Tasters! Thank you both, and all the others, for all the pageantry, grand malt tasting and lovely meal! Wonderful evening indeed! ChloĆ« had dropped us off so Norm and I walked home. Lovely, lovely crisp evening, quite mild, in fact, and I was warm without gloves all the way back. Stay well until next our paths cross. Cheers, Patrizzio!
