Naramata Bench and The Swimming Pool Blues: Wednesday, April 17th!

The cure for anything is salt water -- sweat, tears, or the sea. -Isak Dinesen (pen name of Karen Blixen), author (17 Apr 1885-1962)

Hi Patrick, Corinne Can you send this invite out to our book club people. Would love it if some could make it!! Thanks Michelle Hello Bibliofriends! Michelle asked me if I could forward this to everyone in the book club. A very good cause, indeed. Cheers, Patrizzio!

This afternoon we visited two sets of Andre's friends. The first are owners of Deep Roots Winery. Andre used to pick apples, during his high school summers, for the father of the the present owner who turned orchards into vineyards! Had a lovely time on patio, just off tasting room, sipping wine and drinking in wonderful view. Met a cousin of Brian Hardman's, owner of winery, visiting from Kelowna. Rob is quite a cyclist and spends much of hit time in and around San Diego so we had fun chatting about various cycle paths, in and around LA that I've have ridden and he is familiar with as well.

After that we drove to see Val and Dan, who also live in Naramata, but closer to Penticton. Dan is the son of the former owner of Ace Cycles on Broadway, next door to Young Brothers. At some point in time, Dan had a fight/significant disagreement with his brother-in-law and father, [Ace, still alive then, obviously], and left Ace to start his own cycle business, a few blocks away, towards Alma. We learned that Ace has now closed and building is up for sale. Unfortunately, George, brother-in-law, is battling MS. After a few years Val/Dan decided to sell their home and move to the Okanagan, first to Gallagher Lake where they had an incredible place, with two houses on lot, lakeside property. For a number of reasons they decided to move to Naramata.

Their place is huge, two stories, with a full, two bedroom/two bathroom, full kitchen suite on lower level, leading directly onto a pool deck with a pool almost as large as old Empire Pool at UBC! View is one of the most spectacular we've seen in Naramata. Anyway, they are a lovely, lovely couple and I trust we'll see more of them even when Andre is not visiting. Dan loves rum so we have another thing in common!
