Snowflake to Molly's Hut Snowshoe Blues: Thursday, March 19th!

Many people consider the things government does for them to be social progress but they regard the things government does for others as socialism. -Earl Warren, Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court (19 Mar 1891-1974)

Hello Snowflake Summerlanders! Is the gang meeting at Cherry Lane at 9:00 am this morning? I'm planning to join today's outing so just want to be sure I'm headed to the right rendezvous spot. Thanks and Cheers, Patrizzio! PS: Clark Kent would like to join us as well, after his bath! Yes! Aarturos!

Happy St. Patrick’s day. We have been busy social distancing in the garden and going for walks. I am doubtful that we will go hiking with the group in the spirit of social distancing. Please take care. Stay in touch. Cheers, Tim and Marian☘️☘️🌈🍺🍺  Patrick please include my email for Monday hikes, not sure if you imported it from Aart's spreadsheet. Many, many thanks Senka. Hi Alabariña! You are now a permanent member of the Hiking Politburo, Snowshoe Party Central Committee and the Vino Polizei! Cheers!

[This snap was taken by a passenger in the plane whose contrail was seen over Snowflake!] Hello Fellow Snowflakers, et al! A hearty thank-you to both Lorenzo and Herardo for leading such a terrific, terrific outing! I know many in the group had been to Antlers and The Stagger Inn before but I was not one of them. This being the case, it was even more of a delight to explore this magical wonderland with such affable companions, both human and canine! The weather simply couldn't have been better, from the shining sun, the stunning blue of the sky, to Aeolus's absence and the balmy temperature. Special thanks to both Ben and Bruno for always checking on stragglers, (usually me!), and to The Dutiful Duo, Herardo and Lorenzo, for keeping a watchful eye, again, usually on me, particularly on the return leg. As I have certainly come to learn, since joining the group, everyone is always very considerate of those who might not be as experienced as others, whether hiking or snowshoeing, and I thank one and all for such kindness, courtesy and assistance. Cheers, Patrizzio! Map and Stats for snowshoe outing:

Hi Fartograms, What a wonderful snowshoe trip we had, finding our 2 huts in the Nickle Plate Lake Area under straight blue skies. For me it always so spectacular to see the vast plain of Nickle Plate Lake all covered with snow under deep blue skies, it is a inter-play of lines and contrast. Please click on the following link to get a good impression of the outing we had. Enjoy! Dear Patrick, I'm so glad you reached out and reconnected with me. Thank you! First of all, congratulations on your new grandson! Lovely pictures. Things are busy in my life, so in some ways, the enforced isolation isn't such a bad thing. I've been very involved with the Faculty Association for the last 6 years, and in the CAUT's Executive for the last 3 years.

This means that I've been travelling in different parts of Canada very frequently (once a month to Ottawa), which I love. I've met people I'd never have met, and been able to organize events and alliances I couldn't have been able to organize otherwise. I'm sad that many of the cool meetings I was going to in the next while are cancelled, but of course the isolation is necessary. Missing hugs and kisses from all!

My brother and family are coping with having the little one at home from school. My niece, Lily, is 7 years old, and the teachers at her school have been lovely in sending exercises and activities. Her art teacher just sent every kid a little box of art materials to open, as well as project ideas for them. We're also going to be doing some Skype lessons from here for her.

My parents have been retired for many years, but they travel a lot. They're very sad to have to cancel their usual 2 months in Oxford, where they were scheduled to have gone at the end of April. Their friends in England are all over 70, so everyone is having to self-isolate.

My big news right now is that I'm building a lane house behind my parents' place. It may not be big, but it's bigger than my condo, which I sold in September. It's very exciting to be able to build from scratch. The style will match my parents' craftsman-style house. I hope you can visit once it's completed at the end of summer. Please give my best to Corrinne! And stay well, all of you. Sarika

Hi Betty Boop! Thank you for the "Wave" and your congratulations on the birth of Rowan James. Glad to hear that you and family are well. Congratulations, indeed, to you on the lane house! What a wonderful project.

The son and daughter-in-law of close friends, Sylvia and Ray Banks, who live near 23rd and Arbutus on a double lot, put in a lovely lane house a year or so ago. I have only seen it from the outside but it looks terrific. I'm sure yours will be the same. Would love a tour when that becomes possible. Bravo! Fondestos from Her Imperiousness to you. Stay well, Sarika. Cheers, Patrizzio!

My dear Sir Patrick and Lady Dar. What a lovely email, and I too am very disappointed in not making it to BC and seeing you guys. However I made it out of Washington with the remainder of Bach Choir on sunday. Cut off borders in and out of USA and Canada was the following night. Imagine if I had made to Penticton and was stuck and had to self isolate for several weeks, Lady Dar would have done her nut with 2 buffoni!

The media are having a field day and elderly,70+, that's us, vulnerable etc have to keep indoors, avoid crowds etc and shop certain times. I still walk dog, and swimming pool is still open, and when I attend later in the evening never more than a handful are there. Hopefully restrictions are not too bad in Penticton and I cannot imagine you both sitting still. There have been good programmes/ films on TV,1 tonight Rick Stein travelling in Eastern France sampling food and wine of the region. He has a pad in Padstow in Cornwall, not far from where you were! Must dash and get some items from Sainsbury. Lovely pics of family and your trekking and snow shoeing. Love Sir James and Lady Patrizzia.
