St Patrick's Day Green, Green Blues: Tuesday, March 17th!

We open our mouths and out flow words whose ancestries we do not even know. We are walking lexicons. In a single sentence of idle chatter we preserve Latin, Anglo-Saxon, Norse: we carry a museum inside our heads, each day we commemorate peoples of whom we have never heard. -Penelope Lively, writer (b. 17 Mar 1933)

Thank you, Patrick. We try to adjust to all kinds of orders from the authorities, workwise, schoolwise, shopping habits, socially, and also to find alternative ways of exercising now pools and gyms are closed down and ocean water tp is just 6 degrees C. We are not seeing the older members of family and try to keep teenagers from running out at night. Hopefully all endeavours will result in a non-collapsing health care/hospital sector. Other than that we are fine, not ill. Take care and a digital hug to everyone there with you. XO Margareta

Happy St. Patrick’s day. We have been busy social distancing in the garden and going for walks. I am doubtful that we will go hiking with the group in the spirit of social distancing. Please take care. Stay in touch. The Cousins!

Cheers, Tim and Marian☘️☘️🌈🍺🍺 Hi Patrick, Thanks for the card and good wishes to you on your patron saint's day. Life here is very strange at the moment with the Corana virus. Many amusing emails being sent which is a very Irish way to tackle a crisis but definitely a sense of foreboding. People are being very good and doing the right thing with our old government running things very well; the new government is not yet agreed by the parties in a hung Dail. I hope Canada is not too badly affected and you and the family are well. Best regards and keep safe, Henry and Una.

Hello Emerald Islers! Lovely to hear from you and pleased you enjoyed the card. Trust you are still able to sail in spite of restrictions. For my part I am pleased to report that I managed to tipple some fine Irish whiskey and especailly enjoyed the Pearse, Single Malt, Cask Strength, 59.3%, from you, you will recall! Until next our paths cross, stay well. Fondestos from Lady Dar to you and Una. Cheers, Patrizzio! Happy St Patrick, be a good gossoon and whatever you do, Dunn overdo it. A St. Patrick's Day that none of us will ever forget. Thank you for your quiet and tasteful card, a reminder that there is still sanity on this planet if one can find and preserve it. May all be well with the clans north of the border! Cactus Thx. and a happy St. Patrick's Day to you and yours, Patrick - stay well Ron Are you guys stranded there! I have a long time girlfriend I met in Saudi in 1980 in Barcelona. She was there with ‘husbands’ #2 & #3 over 16 years but both died. Marja was preparing to move back to Rotterdam where her 2 girls & grands live. Marja is Dutch & was married to a KLM CEO when we met her in Dhahran. They divorced & then he passed several years ago. They were posted to Spain. Now the borders have closed & she can’t get out!! Good luck!! Thx for the card! Maggie Happy green hat day! Susan Fin Are you actually Irish? Well Erin Go Bragh and all that. Very best wishes to you and everyone! Stay safe from this horrible virus. Thanks for the card! Janet Balzarini

Since there was a Border Collie in my card I wanted to share our newest addition. Jasper is 4 months and she has a lovely disposition. Be safe and healthy Hugs Kelly

Happy St Patrick’s Day to You, Patrick, Corinne, Chloe and Big Boy Rowan. Hope you are all staying healthy. Denise and Bill  Thank You Paddy Patrick,
May the green hills of OK Valley find you happy, healthy and with glass of Irish Whiskey. DBJS
Happy St. Patrick's Day, Patrick! Hope you are all doing well. Sorry there was no opportunity to meet this time. Jane went in a friend's car direct to Silver Star. The rest of the time has been reduced by, first, the trip to Mexico, and, second, the CRISIS. I'm leaving on an adventurous trip to Sweden Wednesday next week. / Love to you and Corinne, Kjell Likewise to you and yours Patrick! St Kilian Thanks for the lovely & soothing green card Patrick.
Hope you and the extended family are well and virus-free. Regards, Bill & Denise

Thanks very much, Patrick, for the lovely calming card. Petey and I are feeling somewhat stressed as we await our return to Victoria. P is trying to put these trying times aside with a round of "onesome" golf while I am enjoying the sunshine and warm temperatures here in Palm Desert. Neither one of us is showing any negative signs of the dreaded coronavirus and we are not looking forward to the self-isolation in our itty-bitty condo! Hopefully it won't be too gruelling and this too shall pass. With fervent hopes that all your wonderful family are well and continue to be so. Fondly, Lynne.

Thank you, Patrick. We need all the encouragement we can get. I hope you and yours are safe and sound as we are here as well! Take good care, Patrizzia and The Grumpoid! Thanks for the card. I just got home from Arizona. JT Nice card. Hope you enjoyed your Saint's Day! How are things in Canada? We are basically confined to our home for probably the next 2 months at least. So far it's not too bad. I really don't miss all of the meetings I would be going to. But I am afraid we are going to need to cancel our spring camping trip that I was really looking forward to. Diane and Patrizzio II

Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you and Corrine, Just when I needed some cheer after trips are cancelled, Symphony concerts cancelled, libraries closed and friends driving home to Nova Scotia and we are facing house arrest (that is what it feels like). Went skiing today, can still hike and bike, alone alas but in France even that is forbidden. We can wave when we pass on our bikes .
Thank you for the card. Colleen/Colonel Klink
happy st patricks day to you my friend hope you are celebrating your name sake in style once again thanks for your thoughtfulness Judy xoxo

Hi Patrick! Thank you for the St. Patrick's Day well wishes! I am in self isolation so this was a real pick me up! Tony and I got back from Mesa, Arizona on Sunday and are fairly housebound for the next 14 days. On the bright side, I have taken a leave of absence from work, so I don't have pressures of trying to get back to work. I hope your newest grandson is doing well and that all your family is happy and healthy. Much love to you all! Elinor Thank you Patrick. I would like to visit Ireland. Chuck Thank you Patrick. Phantom hugs and kisses from my clan to yours. No other kinds of hugs and kisses are allowed now.
Yda, Arni and Bogart-pooch

Patrick, Thank you for thinking of me on St. Patrick's day. Happy St Patrick's day to you and yours. Unfortunately this year it won't be the beer drinking holiday it usually is. I hope that your family is well and remains well. Crazy times:) Hi Pamela! Glad you enjoyed the card. Yes, no green beer at Cannery Brewery this year! However, plan to tipple some fine Irish whiskey, [Method and Madness], this evening, over at Chloë's, to have dinner there with Rowan James. Little Chap is thriving and I am hoping he will have a paper route soon to help pay for the basement suite we are currently having put in at Winnipeg Street.

We are optimistic that drywall will be finished by week's end so that we can begin painting before floor is laid. Lady Dar and Chloë met with Rona yesterday and arranged to make some changes to kitchen installation that they had proposed and booked installation to take place on April 13th, date suggested by our contractor.

Bathroom vanity is already at Chloë's, [upstairs], and toilet is waiting at Splash. The fridge and washer/dryer are being held at Home Hardware. We are crossing our fingers that she will be able to rent the place by May 1st! Must away as I'm off for a ride. As you probably know, beginning today, the Penticton Community Centre, Cleland Theatre, McLaren Arena, Library and Museum, along with the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre, South Okanagan Events Centre and Memorial Arena, will be closed to the public. I'm hoping that my monthly pass will be honoured, [I bought one at a GFA fund-raiser, a month or so ago, and was only about a week into it as of today! Clock didn't start ticking until first use.], for remaining time, when place opens again! Fondestos to you and Wild Bill from Lady Dar. [She is waiting for Rowan James and Chloë to arrive as they plan to go for a walk. Stay well. Cheers, Patrizzio! Pics: Feeding time, book time, sit up straight time and tummy time!

Patrick, What a cutie pie little Ronan is! I’d venture to say that he bears some resemblance to you…have you heard that before? Crazy times indeed. Nice to hear that Chloe’s basement reno is proceeding apace. I worked at Legend Distilling last Saturday and it was very busy…people eating and tasting all afternoon. You would never now from the crowds there that we are in the midst of a pandemic. Stay healthy and I’ll see you at Bookclub on April 1 (or maybe not if this pandemic is in full swing). Pamela

Hello Danish Dynamite and Little Hans! Glad you enjoyed the card. Unfortunately, no green beer at Cannery Brewery this year with similar shutdowns you are experiencing! [Trust you are well in spite of restrictions. You can still ride and run so stop whining!!!] However, plan to tipple some fine Irish whiskey, [Writer's Tears, 40%, West Cork, Bourbon Cask, 40%, West Cork, Peat Charred Cask, 43%, Method and Madness, Single Grain, Bourbon Barrels, 46% and Pearse, Single Malt, Cask Strength, 59.3%], this evening. Originally we were to have dinner over at Chloë's but after she/Rowan James and Lady Dar went for a long walk this afternoon they had lunch back at our place so we decided to stay in this evening.

Little Chap is thriving and I am hoping he will have a paper route soon to help pay for the basement suite we are currently having put in at Winnipeg Street. We are optimistic that drywall will be finished by week's end so that we can begin painting before floor is laid. Lady Dar and Chloë met with Rona yesterday and arranged to make some changes to kitchen cabinets, etc., that they had proposed and booked installation to take place on April 13th, date suggested by our contractor. Bathroom vanity is already at Chloë's, [upstairs], and toilet is waiting at local store, Splash. The fridge and washer/dryer are being held at Home Hardware. We are crossing our fingers that she will be able to rent the place by May 1st, otherwise we will be swimming to Denmark to live with you!

Weather was absolutely gorgeous today, 9º C, so I went for a ride this afternoon. Left just after the gang were home, around 2:30 pm. Hadn't been riding for a few days as I'd been using the pool, However, beginning today, the Penticton Community Centre, Cleland Theatre, McLaren Arena, Library and Museum, along with the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre, South Okanagan Events Centre and Memorial Arena, will be closed to the public. I'm hoping that my monthly pass will be honoured, [I bought one at a Grandmothers for Africa fund-raiser, a couple of months ago, and was only about a week into it as of this past Sunday as weather had been so cooperative in Jan/Feb that I've been riding when not hiking/snowshoeing! Clock didn't start ticking until first use.], for remaining time, when place opens again! Who knows when that will be!

Anyway, I followed what has now become my nouveau route regulare, [61 km rather than 51 km], from here, down Ellis to Penticton Tennis Club. then along Lakeside to start my hamster loops off Power. Did seven circuits each of Burnaby/Riverside, back lane south of Dynes/Riverside, Dynes/Riverside, and then Churchill/Riverside before heading down Westminster to loop through the Riverside Mall and then do seven repeats of Burnaby/Westminster before crossing Westmisnter and doing a quick loop off Alberni/Creston/Comox before following Westminster to turn right onto Power and then it is Wade to Winnipeg, dipsy-doodling on Orchard, to White and I'm back home! Wind was pretty strong, out of the NNW at 23 km/h, gusting to 34 km/h so I had to fight it whenever my gerbilizations obliged me to face the head wind.

Nevertheless, I didn't fuss about it as I knew my AVG was going to suffer no matter what so I simply enjoyed the day, the delicious sunshine, the blue sky, the magnificent crown of shining snow atop Mount Okanagan and the wonderful, wonderful expanse of the lake, spread out before me every time I was back along Lakeshore. Even wished Lady Di, friend from book/bridge club, walking with another lady, Happy St Patrick's when I saw them on the boardwalk at the start of my ride. Saw them again, about two hours later, in almost the same spot so I need to quiz her about where they went. My guess is that they may have made their way to the end of the boardwalk and then up Vancouver Ave to the start of the KVR.

Streets are remarkably clean of gravel and grit so that is something to be feel quite grateful about. Not sure if the strong winds, of late, have scoured the road surfaces or the city has started sweeping. At any rate, I'm simply chuffed that both the weather and the roads allow me to ride at this time of year. Hip Hip Hooray! Garmin Map and Stats for ride:

Fondestos from Lady Dar, preparing a fabulous stir fry to you and The Three Lads, Dottore. When it is ready we will repair to the Rumpus Room to watch more of a new series, to us, The Valhalla Murders. Do you know it?  Stay well. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Pics: Chloë walked over this past Tuesday for lunch with us: Feeding time, sit up straight time, nap time, book time and tummy time! Monday's hike out of Fenwick Trailhead in Summerland; Irish time this morning! Irish Whiskey and Me!

Thank you Patrick. We are well. But I struggle a but to make young men understand to stay home. After the Queen went on screen last night to talk to the nation, which is first time ever beside annual New Year's Eve talks, I HOPE they will resign and just do what they are asked to do.

Hans and I were dating to each other that it was so fortunate that we went to Canada last summer, such plans this year would have been skipped right away.
The hospitals are preparing for major rearrangements and are calling students and retired former employees to get ready for the expected boom of patients in a few weeks. Last night further restrictions in social lives by law. I am sent home to work by screen and mobile where possible. We are coping, and trying to protect our old parents. I will now go shopping for my mum. (it is 7. 25 a. m.!) Take care and a big hug to every one from Margareta 😘 😘
Thank you for thinking of me! I hope you were able to celebrate your saint’s day!😉  Sarika Hello Long Lost Betty Boop! How wonderful to hear from you! Trust you are well especially so given the fact that we are facing such a world-wide crisis, let alone climate change! Fondestos from Lady Dar to you, Sarika. We both hope you might think of visiting us here in the Okanagan. You are always welcome to stay with us, or, if you prefer, in Luxury, Sheer Luxury, with Chloë and Rowan James in their brand new townhouse! Stay well. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Dear EV Owner I am writing concerning First Things First Okanagan’s Smart Energy Expo scheduled for April 25 and 26, 2020, at the Penticton Lakeside Resort. You had all agreed to bring and show your EV at the event, for which we sincerely thank you. Regrettably, considering the risk posed to the public by the Corona Virus epidemic, the FTFO executive has decided to cancel the Smart Energy Expo at this time. We greatly appreciate the support you have shown for the event. We want to assure you that FTFO will organize the same or a similar event once such public gatherings are considered safe.

We were excited about the event and are sorry that it is necessary to cancel. Once again, we thank you for your support and participation. We look forward to having your participation when we reschedule the event. Sincerely, Mike Healey Vice Chair, First Things First Okanagan
