Volcán Arenal EcoTermales Butterfly Blues: Tuesday, January 16th!

Earth is here so kind, that just tickle her with a hoe and she laughs with a harvest. -Douglas William Jerrold, playwright and humorist (1803-1857)

Good Morning from Hotel Monte Real, Baldrick! You obviously have seem more wildlife than we have, to date, but nonetheless enjoying Costa Mucha! (Bit like Costa del Sol/Costa a Lot, in Spain, back in '70's!) Just had
Baldrick! Can you hear me?Enjoy Hawaii. Grogg/Lurchesca and Flamin'/Sarge are on Maui now, I believe, as well as extremely close friends, Dawn and Gerry, from Terrace. Say hello to all of them for us! Maybe Grogg/Daddy Warbucks will buy a round! Fondestos from Lady Dar to you both. Cheers, Il Conduttore/Patrizzio!

PS: Haven't heard from Elaine lately but with last message she said party for Ted, just before Christmas, was wonderful, with so many supportive friends an neighbours. Unfortunately, heartbreakingly, he couldn't remember it. "Where was I?", he asked Elaine, when she mentioned gathering. Tough, tough hand to be dealt so puts everything else in one's life into perspective. From this, I gather that his mental condition is deteriorating, increasingly rapidly, presumably his physical condition as well.

Good Morning from the rim of the crater of Volcán Arena, Famiglia Tassell! Thanks for newsy message, Teens. Pleased that everyone is well and enjoying being back on the slopes. Have you seen Ariane, Doug and lads? Hello to Rae and fond regards to everyone else, of course. Fondestos from Lady Dar, fussed about all her insect bites! Life in
Paraíso 'ain't easy, Teens, much like life on the slopes. Enjoy your time at Sun Peaks! Fondestos from Lady Dar to on and all. Warm wishes from a humid climate to the Frozen North! Cheers, Patrizzio! Good Morning, Judy Blue! Fondestos from Lady Dar, fussed about all her insect bites! Life in Paraíso 'ain't easy, JB, much like bidding with me! Cheers, Patrizzio Judy B Pratt Beautifu

Hi! Patrizzio ............... I'm sure you must find it very difficult having to endure all the sun, warmth & heat in Costa Rica while we are bombarded by white fluffy snow. I did get out for a 3 hr. snowshoe day with Jos, Aart, Tony, Tim & Marion up to Cartwright Mtn in Summerland last Thursday. Also, got in 3 hr. snowshoeing at Carmi with Sandy & Norbert on the weekend. Lots more snow falling now, so I'm sure snowshoeing will be good for awhile.

I talked to Gill last week on the phone & she will be heading back to Penticton on Feb. 23rd.The friends that Katarina stayed with when she was in Penticton was: LIZ & JAMES (don't know their last name). Tell Corinne that I took her advice & have been resting my eye quite a bit the past couple of weeks. I've really been trying to let the retinas heal. I have another specialist appt. on Thursday to discuss more surgery to improve my vision now that the surgery to repair & reinforce my retinas have healed. Keep on enjoying life to its fullest each day ................. I know you do!! Cheers from BC, Laying low & resting, Mary Lee :-)

Good Evening from Hotel Monte Real, Snow-Shoe Woman and Paolo! Thanks for newsy message. Pleased that many of our mutual friends are well and enjoying the snow! While we are certainly enjoying the warmth of Costa Rica, last few days, atypically, for this time of year, according to locals, entire country has been experiencing heavy, heavy rain.

This morning, we took a taxi to the base of Volcán Arenal to visit the Arenal Natura Ecological Park and spent about two hours wandering from one one exhibit/species area to another. Were absolutely delighted with the butterfly garden as gorgeous creatures filled the air around us. I managed to avoid being pushed over the railing into the various crocodile enclosures. Unfortunately, didn't see quite as many frogs and snakes as former are nocturnal and latter, if we could see them at all, curled up, far away, at back of their enclosures. As well, glass cages made it well nigh impossible to get any decent pictures, due, primarily, to reflection.

Nevertheless the turtles made us smile, such lazy, seemingly content, happy creatures they appear to be. After we had seen as much as we could, we walked the rest of the well surfaced trails, looping back to the start, through the dense jungle/forest, dripping with rain, but our umbrellas kept us dry and comfortable.

Spent about two hours, overall, here and then back at Reception we called another taxi to take us Paradise, one of the three EcoTermales as opposed to Hot Tamales, aka, Hot Springs, nearbye. Spent another couple of hours here, in the various pools and shot tubs of various temperatures, luxuriating in the soothing water after our earlier exertions. Simply a magical spot and even the rain took on a positive aspect, cooling off what might have otherwise been pools too, too hot to enjoy. Relaxed as sloths we showered and changed and then took yet another taxi back to our hotel. I just woke up from a to hour nap, so relaxed did the termals make me feel. Must way now as Lady Dar is agitating for dinner. Will return to Snappers as food is simply superb! Fondestos from Lady Dar, still fussed that it is still raining! Life in Paraíso 'ain't easy, Mary Lee, much like life in Penticton! Warm wishes from a humid climate to the Frozen North! Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hi Corinne and Pat, A belated happy new year to you both. I trust this finds you both well. Following our three plus weeks in Italy and Amsterdam at the end I got home in mid November to start what felt like a more than month long tussle with a persistent cold. Just back and firing on all cylinders over the past week.

Not much new with us. I've been appointed to the Canadian Cultural Property Export Board (it's more exciting than it sounds) and this will mean five trips to Ottawa in 2018. My sister and husband the retired judge are in the process of permanently relocating to Kelowna which will mean more frequent trips to Regina to see my mother and probably more trips to the Okanagan. Thought we might see you at Hal Wake's send off party last Friday. A good time was had by a full Performance Works crowd. Hope you can make The Dram Scotch tasting on Friday March 9th. Hope to see you sometime soon....Paul & Joan

Good Evening from Hotel Monte Real, on the rim of Volcán Arenal! Thanks for New Year's wishes, Paolo. Same to you and Joan. Sorry to hear about your nasty bug, Paolo, but glad you are better now. Reason we were not at Hal's send-off is that we weren't in the country. We flew to Costa Rica, from LA, [driving, leaving Penticton day after Boxing Day.], on January 6th/7th and spent four terrific nights in San José, followed by another lovely four in Puerto Viejo, on the Caribbean. I just woke up from a two hour nap, so relaxed did the termales make me feel. For dinner we returned to Snappers, [last night's choice], as food is simply superb! Stuffed avocado for a shared appetizer followed by melt-in-your-mouth tuna steak, washed down with a wonderful, wonderful white, Torrontés, first discovered, for us, when in Buenos Aires in 2008! An exceptional varietal, a white Argentine grape, producing an aromatic wine with moderate acidity, silky smooth texture and delicious peach and apricot notes. Fabulous! Fondestos from The Marriage Officiant. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Greeting from Hotel Monte Real! Trust you are well Ruth. In the end, we didn't hook up with Adrian as he came down with a bout of stomach flu on the Friday, before we left on Saturday, so couldn't join us for dinner. Hope we'll be able to connect when were are back from Costa Rica. Warm wishes from Lady Dar! Will be in touch once back in Tinsel Town! Cheers, Patrizzio! Hello from the rim of Volcán Arenal! Trust you, Naughty Nancita and Cactus, are both well. Cheers, Patrizzio!
