The eKona Sings The Little Shuswap Blues: Sunday, May 19th!

The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts. -Bertrand Russell, philosopher, mathematician, author, Nobel laureate (1872-1970)

Up at 5:47 am, all by myself, as no hungry cats agitating for their breakfast! I was able to steal into the kitchen, closing the bedroom door behind me, to allow Lady Dar to continue her beauty sleep, to zap my java and then empty the dishwasher. Even dished out their favourite wet food but still no takers. Went into my office to work on yesterday's outing and I spied Miss Etta, curled up on her favourite chair, under the gazebo. Wonder where The Boy is? I'm sure he'll be along in next little while. I know Lady Dar gave him a drink around 4:00 am so he's probably still gadding about.

Once the kittens appeared and I fed them their much sought after wet cat food, I busied myself putting together what few things I would take along for the coming stay with Little White and Ricardo. Managed to coax Lady Dar out of bed by 8:00 am and once she was up she set about packing herself. After she had her breakfast she showered and changed and went outside to water both front and back, Etta and Duke supervising the process. While she was  so engaged I proceeded to load the car and by the time she was finished I had most everything in place, setting out recylcing and garbage bins for Monday's collection so that ChloĆ« wouldn't have to do anything. She had spent the night at Apex, with a number of girlfriends and was going to sleep at our place for the two nights we were in Little Shuswap, cat sitting for us!

Just after 10:00 am we set off and headed towards Kelowna. Lovely day so we enjoyed the drive north. Traffic in Kelowna wasn't all that bad and were soon in Vernon, taking the turn-off to 97, just outside the city, towards Falkland. Close to this community we noticed that the highway would be closed between 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm, as the Falkland Stampede Parade would be in progress. Since we were about half and hour before closure we drove slowly along Main Street, waving to the people who were already there waiting for the parade to start. Since the traffic was crawling along I even chatted with some of the seated spectators

Once out of Falkland itself, we quite enjoyed the lovely valley scenery and sailed along, Sterling Mossing the eKona around bends and accelerating to break-neck speeds on the straightaways! Then through the tiny burg of Westwold, past Monte Lake, filled with fisher folk in small boats and then Monte Creek itself. Not long after 97 joins the Trans Canada, divided until just before Chase. Could see the Toews compound, located at the tip of the point, on the north shore, from the highway after we had left Chase behind. Not long after we took the turnoff to Sqilax-Angelmont Road and once over the Little River, which connects Shuswap from Little Shuswap, we turned onto Little Shuswap Lake Road, past Quaaout Lodge where Lady Dar had married Leah, Ruth adn Rick's eldest daughter, two years ago.

Their place is right at the end of the road and when we drove down their driveway their car wasn't there so we assumed they were golfing at Talking Rock, part of the lodge complex. I tried all of the doors but they were locked and since I couldn't find a key we were set to take out our books and read on the deck until our hosts returned. This they did a few minutes later so we didn't really have time to turn a page. Fond reunion and once we'd unloaded car Lady dar set about preparing two small pizzas. This sdidin't take long and together with Ruth's Greeek salad we enjoyed a delicious late lunch. After this table was cleared and we started playing bridge. House rules are for rubber bridge so we played two rubbers before taking a break.

I proceeded to do my shoulder exercises, Lady Dar read, Little White readied some of the dishes for dinner while Ricardo watched a recorded hockey. When I was finished stretching my muscles we reconvened play, inside as it was fairly windy and a tad cool with the breeze. Another two rubbers before tasty appetizers and then a delicious fish curry. Plenty of hootch so rubber after meal was quite spirited. Had been a long day for everyone so around 11:00 pm we bade one another goodnight and toddled off to our respective bedrooms.
