Dusty Rides Into The Sunset:Blues: Friday, May 5th!

When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the universe. -John Muir, naturalist, explorer, and writer (1838-1914)

Heavy hearts, like heavy clouds in the sky, are best relieved by the letting of a little water. -Christopher Morley, writer (5 May 1890-1957)

Must away as I have a few more things to do with locker. Also am under orders from Lady Dar to remove the Blue Spruce from front yard. Poor thing didn't make it through the winter. The Sisterhood are off shopping somewhere and we have plans to go to a 4:00 pm movie. Then back home for drinks before we are out to dinner, at Bogners, not far away, on Eckhardt. Haven't been there for almost two years when we had a lovely meal with Clara and Dusty, in February, 2015, when we first came up to start looking for a house. Before that, it was way back in about 1985 when we first came wine-tasting in the Okanagan. We stayed at the camp ground, in our Ford Aerostar, just off Riverside, next to the mini-mall where T-Bones has an outlet. Loads of change since then, in both Penticon and wines/wineries!

Pics: Took these shots yesterday evening as I was afraid that the blossoms would all be knocked off by heavy downpour. Couldn't believe that all were intact this morning! Storage locker. Night sky just before thunder and lightening really started. Managed to catch one shot of illuminated sky. Raindrops keep blowing on my lens! Duke supervises while Spumoni raids his stash under TV cabinet! Work in progress!

Hi Pat, I understand from Ayn's Facebook page that Dusty passed away. He was a great man and a good fellow. He will be sorely missed and we won't see the likes of him again any time soon. I hope you and Corinne are alright. Please take care. -Alastair. (And the goils, of course)

Hi Flash! Thanks for your thoughts and concern. Yes, Dusty was all you say about him. His death, when it came, although a shock, obviously, was not unexpected, as he had been in and out of the regional hospital in St Anne's, a number of times over the last week or so. On one of the visits that George, Corinne's brother, and Clara made, he told her that he was very tired. On the next however, this past Wednesday, he was wide awake, lucid and very talkative and they, along with grandson, Cody, had a wonderful visit so everyone was pleased about his condition. Thursday, however, his breathing became extremely laboured and he started to slip away. We later learned that he succumbed to pneumonia.

Pamela, Corinne's youngest sister, from Winnipeg, in Vancouver on business, drove up with ChloĆ« on Thursday evening. On Friday afternoon, The Sisterhood went to see Tom Hanks in The Circle while I opted for Maudie, "a 2016 Irish-Canadian biographical-drama film directed by Aisling Walsh and starring Sally Hawkins and Ethan Hawke. The film is about the life of Canadian artist Maud Lewis, who painted in Nova Scotia. It was shot in Newfoundland and Labrador, requiring a recreation of Lewis' famously small house." I cannot recommend it enough. Simply stunning performances by both Hawkins and Hawke. Quite a remarkable story brought to the screen in such a moving, powerful, yet  quintessentially, quiet Canadian way. A gem indeed.

At any rate, we had taken separate cars as my film started half an hour before Tom hit the silver screen, and  it was pelting down that afternoon. Streets were awash. At any rate, I was home before my goils, and when they walked in they were all subdued and tearful. I thought it was due to the film as I felt the same after seeing Maudie and then I realized that they had heard of Duty's death.

As you can imagine, things are in flux until Clara and George are able to decide upon date for funeral, trying to bear in mind the work schedules/flexibility of far-flung family members. Things are somewhat complicated, at our end, inasmuch as we are heading into Vancouver this coming Wednesday for Lady Dar's Library School class' 40th reunion. Had planned to return on Monday, May 15th, but now will have to wait and perhaps we'll fly to Winnipeg from there, depending on date for service. Still, life goes on. Fondestos to Your Goils. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Dusty May 1924-May 2017: My dad died this afternoon after a brief hospital stay. He was a great guy as you know. No service is planned yet. My mom was in too much shock as you can imagine. He had turned 93 on May 2. We were so fortunate to have had him in our lives for so long. We are all grieving his loss while at the same time so lucky to have had such a great father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Best Corinne Dear Corinne Our hearts go out to you.
We have so many happy memories of our time we spent with him and your family. Yes he was a great guy and will be sorely missed. Much love Tina and Trevor xx

Gotta' love the comment, "Anyone else worried about the wine glasses?" Ha Ha

Hi Sally and Filmer! Trust you new grandparents are both well. However, some very sad news as Dusty died today. Take care of each other. Will be in touch when we know our schedule and perhaps we can arrange to see you. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hi Tiptoe! Trust you are well. However, some very sad news as Dusty died this past Friday. Thursday, however, his breathing became extremely laboured and he started to slip away. We later learned that he succumbed to pneumonia. Nevertheless, he had a pretty good kick at the can!

I'm sure Dusty is still shaking his head over the fact that you weren't interested in those Canadian nurses on the beach in Raratonga. Cheers, Patrice!

Hello OF'ies, This Monday we will go up Mt Eneas in Summerland under the capable leadership of our own Tony! It will be moderately steep but fairly short so no need to take your sleeping bag! And ofcourse .... beautiful views! As usual please meet at the IGA at 9:00AM or at the HH in Penticton at 8:40AM to make your way to Summerland by 9:00AM. Relaxation afterwards to be decided but probably The Beanery. See you there, Aart
