Scape Salt for Ragin' Bull Blues: Saturday, October 6th!

The tragedy in the lives of most of us is that we go through life walking down a high-walled lane with people of our own kind, the same economic situation, the same national background and education and religious outlook. And beyond those walls, all humanity lies, unknown and unseen, and untouched by our restricted and impoverished lives. -Florence Luscomb, architect and suffragist (6 Feb 1887-1985)

Good morning Corinne and Patrick, I hope all is well and you Patrick have fully recovered from your ordeal. Sadly I still have shingles and this debilitating illness has ruined my summer - no sun, no swimming and no exercise allowed, only plenty of reading when I have not been sleeping plus lots of weight gain unfortunately. Will certainly be time for a personal trainer once I am fully recovered. I have decided not to return to Canada with Andre later this month (on the 25th) but to remain in London and rest so hopefully I will get better before our annual sojourn to Barbados.

We will both be coming back for over a month in late March next year so will certainly plan a visit to the Okanagan Valley doing this visit. Anyway the spring is always nicer than November I seem to remember from previous trips. If it is alright with you Patrick we can bring anything you wish us to from your belongings here then since we will be back in France to check up in the house in February/March. Currently getting around to closing it up for the winter which usually means over three months away. Andre has to take back a really heavy extra bag for a friend who has been living and working in Geneva for over five years and now returned to Vancouver which includes both her ski and cross country boots too. Simply do not understand why she did not ship it (we even had to go to Geneva to collect it last month) but guess she felt she had a cart horse in Andre. Not great for his heart - I cannot even lift it! If there is anything small you desperately want before the spring I am sure he could drop it off at Michele and Waynes’s since I do not think he is planning to come up to Penticton this time.

Hope this all makes sense. Had lots of visitors this summer as usual including many Canadians from Andre’s past - school, university and poker playing friends - so this along with the extreme heat has probably not helped my well-being. Enough of my woes. Take care my friends and look forward to seeing you next year. Much love to you both, Rosemary XXX

Dearest Rosemary! How lovely to hear from you but certainly upset to learn that you are still suffering from shingles. What an aweful, aweful affliction to have had to endure for so long. Our hearts go out to you. I think you are wise not to travel to Canada this time, and trust rest will work to help your recovery. With respect to Andre's trip, there are only two items from the large black bag I left, that I would like. The most import one being my Nexus Pass. I believe it is in a small bag, along with some Canadian currency, and perhaps some British pounds, a little under a million as I recall! I certainly would appreciate the pass being brought over, for obvious reasons. I left it at your place as I assumed I wouldn't need it until I returned to Canada! The other is a bottle of single malt, Talisker 57, a fairly rare drop I was able to track down in London before we took train to France and which I planned to take home as I've never found it here. However, that can wait if an issue of any kind: weight, duty free allowance, etc.

I do apologize for not being in touch so much sooner. No excuses but plenty of reasons, as always! While I know your summer was an ordeal, here in the Okanagan and Lower Mainland, as well, we were suffering from all the many wildfires and heavy smoke. However, other than the weeks and weeks of smoke-filled air, we fared pretty well compared to so many other communities. Trust all goes as well as possible with your difficult recovery, Rosemary. Stay well dear friend. Fondestos from Lady Dar to you both. Cheers, Patrizzio!

PS: I had been meaning to tell Andre that Barbara Saint, librarian at St Paul's, died this summer. He may well have heard. Obituary was very, very brief but I have a copy of it should he wish to see it.

Hi Apple Cider Swiller et al! I can only imagine that Nurse Jean has driven John to drink! Can't you write a screen play and pitch it to Hallmark? Christmas at Cadboro Bay with Mulled Apple Cider Vinegar!

Just back from a lovely afternoon at Orofino Winery, in Cawston, just east of Keremeos. Fall Pick-up Party which started out with a walk, led by owners/winemakers, Virginia and John Weber, (Originally from Swift Current, where she was a nurse and he a high school teacher!), through a number of their vineyards, stopping to taste three of their wines, (one white, Riesling, and two reds, Petit Verdot and Cabbage, where the grapes are grown. Simply a fabulous day so it was more than a delight to be outside.

Rita and Bill Laven, (We first met them at one of these events, three years ago as they are wine club members as well. Bill was at our Open House but Rita was grandparenting!), were there so we had loads of time to chat. They stopped by our place when back in Penticton as Lady Dar had been talking to Rita about Mike Johnston, our kitchen contractor, and we gave them his card. They have a rental house on their property, where they live in Naramata, and want to renovate, inside, extensively. Bill makes his own wine and had picked, along with their two, older sons, 900 lbs of grapes earlier. He also distills and gave us a bottle of his cherry Kirsch at Open House. Really terrific stuff and his wine, as well as his cider, is very, very good on the home-made scale. Definitely not for use as a marinade!

Before that we strolled down to the Farmers' Market and all the vendors we know can hardly wait to see Rosita and Miss Tinsel Town! Leigh, (Balsamic Bliss), won't be there next Saturday as Halley, her daughter, is home for a week, from Western. Had a great tasting of Noteworthy Gin and hot apple cider. Lady Dar will probably serve this at our Christmas Open House so there is a bottle at Burns Street, waiting for you, to use very, very sparingly, Chloƫ!

Lady Dar is having a nap so I must away to lay a fire so that it is ready for Her Imperiousness when she manages to rise from her bed. Fondestos and Happy Canadian Thanksgiving, from her, in absentia, to one and all. Cheers, Patrizzio, Hewer of Wood and Kitchen Scullion! Pics: Farmers' Market: some of the vegetables, gin tasting, Leigh and will the real Mr Potatoe Head please stand up!
[Jake and I went to United College together, back in the Paleolithic!] Etta's younger sister on way home from Market! Hi Jake and Frog People! A Very Happy Thanksgiving to one and all! Cheers, Patrizzio! Pics: Farmers' Market: Some of the Dumplingdale vegetables and "Will the Real Mr Potatoe Head please stand up! Hi Grant! Fabulous tasting today! Lady Dar will probably serve this at our Christmas Open House so thanks for introducing us to this wonderful concoction. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Dear Patrick, Just got back from a lovely 80th Birthday Party at the Univ. for Donald Hamilton who you have known. He has two children and five grandchildren and the event was packed. Such a lovely man and a beautiful full family. I told him I would say hello to you.

Tomorrow Butternut Squash Soup, Turkey with Wild Rice, Cranberry relish, baked potatoes, carrots, parsnip, sweet potatoe and peas followed by Pumpkin Cheesecake tarts.Finished a book ‘Fear’ by Woodward all about the Trump administration. Not good. Starting a two thousand page read on the life of Winston Churchill beautifully written. I would strongly recommend taking Apple Cider Vinegar pills three times a day as the ‘Mother Brand’ could remove the enamel from your teeth down the road. We are in the middle of the series ‘Survivor’ starting Keifer Sutherland as President of the USA. Excellent acting, wonderful fast paced story. Pay attention to healing your body and do have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Love, Jean

Hi again, Jean! Thanks for note about Don Hamilton. Congratulations to him when next you meet. I've always enjoyed his company so pleased to hear he is doing well. I know that you both had boats moored not far apart. Is this still the case? Fondestos from Lady Dar to you both. Cheers, Patrizzio!
