Run-up to Oscars Hidden Figures Blues: Saturday, January 14th!

The artist must raise the cup of his vision aloft to the gods in the high hope that they will pour into it the sweet mellow wine of inspiration. -Paul Brunton

Hello Sun Peaks Folk and Manitscoldba! Hope this missive finds everyone well. Trevor, I trust you are still coming. If so, Lady Dar and I are trying to coordinate our trip to visit with you and as many others, if possible. As some of you know, Corinne will be flying to Manitoba to visit with Dusty and Rosita. This trip has now been more or less finalized and she will leave on February 8th or 9th. Before that, however, Pamela, her sister, will be in Vancouver, on business, and she and Chloë hope to fly to Penticton on the 3rd of February, for the weekend. This being the case, sometime towards the end of January would probably be best for us, although we are reasonably flexible, depending on everyone's schedule.

I realize that all of you will have different time constraints but hope we can work things out so that we can see as many friends as possible. Let me know what you think and we'll plan accordingly. Fondestos from Lady Dar. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hi all Hope the week is going well...will call this weekend before I leave for Miami xoxo Here's a pic of me with Laura on New Year's Day...we had a lovely lunch in LA

Next Monday Aart is going to lead a hike in Kaleden. So meet at Home Hardware in Penticton at 9 am and Summerlanders can carpool at the IGA parking lot at 8:40 am.

We went to see Hidden Figures at yesterday's matinee. Enjoyed it immensely. Although one knows, more or less, that this particular part of the NASA space program was successful, the backstory to the life of Negroes, ("Blacks" was not yet used), particularly Negro women, in the early '60's, is something that everyone needs to be reminded about. Quite a story and akin, in a similar way, to that of Rosie-the-Riveter, and all other women in the work-force during WW II.

At any rate, we walked downtown, stopping at an open-house held by Tash, Lady Dar's yoga instructor. She has just moved into a lovely studio on the ground floor of the building Rob McKenzie, [architect who designed house for Lynne and Peter], has his office in, corner of Ellis and Wade. She is a lovely person and Lady Dar really likes her classes. Met a few others who attend her sessions and then we stopped by the Book Shop where I picked up a couple of Martin Cruz Smith's Arkady Renko series, Stalin's Ghost and Tatiana, two I've missed. Many will recall that Gorky Park was his first best-seller.

Then on to Teas & Weaves as Lady Dar needed a few things. While there we took a look a a couple of runners. We want to put one in the short hallway to the guest bedroom and my office. Found one that looks right for the space. Colours have been approved by Lady Dar and length/width are just fine. Will probably pick it up tomorrow afternoon, before we go to see La La Land, next on Lady Oscar's list!

This by way of saying that Lady Dar's foot started bothering her at the start of yesterday's outing. By the time the film was over it was really hurting and she was in quite  bit of discomfort hobbling home. She is at a loss as to what has caused this but I maintain that it was the magnum of red that she dropped on it on Friday night! At least bottle didn't break! If not that, then gout from all the hootch she's imbibed, of late!

Hello Folk Fest People! I just purchased my ticket for this summer's Folk Fest. I will be driving back from Alejandro's/Samantha's wedding in LA. Lady Dar won't be attending Folk Fest as she is flying back to Penticton to be available for any Marriage Officiant duties she might have. Don't know if you are interested in attending but thought I'd pass this along, in case you are. Can work out details later, of course. Cheers, Patrizzio! Last chance for Holiday Discount Tickets! We bought our. Sarge Hello Patrick I think we have to miss Folkfestival this year .Maybe Corinne told you that Bodil, our daughter is expecting, and the due date is mid July. Can you imagine, Jos and Aart becoming grandparents and not being around? Cheers, Jos and Aart

Hi Again, Cool-to-Warm Climate Folks! Thought you might appreciate this note, regarding weather, from our friends, Phillipo and Gilliana, who repair to Sedona, [They own a house there.], for a couple of months every year. Must away to ride the stationary bike before Lady Dar and I head out to the cinema for the matinee showing of Hidden Figures:

Three brilliant African-American women at NASA -- Katherine Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe) -- serve as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn (Glen Powell) into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored the nation's confidence, turned around the Space Race and galvanized the world. Fondestos from Lady Dar and her favourite felines! Cheers, Patrizzio! Pics: Book people and aloof Etta!

Hi Patrick—I can’t resist a very quick peripatetic Hindu-gentleman response … you know, “Binder Dundat” … with respect to Moonlight. It is very dark but also excellent cinema. --L. ;-)Hello Bindur and your Hindu Gentleman! Trust all continues to go well in Florida. Of course we miss your congenial company but seem to be quite busy with loads of social activities. Lady Dar has confirmed her plans for Winnipeg. She'll be flying out on February 16th, in time to be with Rosita for her surgery on the 17th. As well, she wants to give her brother, George, a bit of a break in helping out with Dusty, as well as with post-op care for Clarisse after her minor tear-duct surgery.

We are off to Sun Peaks this coming Friday, to stay overnight with our friend, Trevor, from Adelaide, up for a month of skiing. On Sunday, Swedish friend, Kjell, will be here for two nights after taking his amore, Jane, from Courtney, to Silver Star for a few days of skiing with her girlfriends. No time for Moonlight, although we hope to see it at some point!
All the very best to you both. Travel safely and take care of each other. Cheers, Patrizzio!
Hi Pat, Yes – I am still coming; will arrive in Sun Peaks on Thursday Jan 19th after overnighting in Vancouver (I hope to catch up with Michelle and Sarge sometime on the Wednesday before jet lag sets in!).

I will leave Sun Peaks on Saturday 18th February so if we can squeeze in a visit in that period (either you to Sun Peaks or me to Penticton) that would be great. Francesca and Gregg will be coming up for the weekend 28/29th January staying at the Sun Peaks Grand; another friend from Calgary will be arriving on the 15th February for a few days. Apart from those dates I am flexible.

Regards to Corinne – sorry to hear of Dusty’s continuing health problems – unfortunately we are of an age where if we are lucky enough to still have parents around things are starting to go downhill rapidly for them. Trevor

Hey Dad, I'm sure I can get the 3rd off and come up that weekend but did you want to fly me up on points??? 😬❤
Hi Patrick, If you are at the mountain on the weekend of the 28/29 we will most like be heading up Saturday around 11am as Corben has hockey at 8am. My only commitment is a scheduled webinar on Sunday at 4pm and it is about 40-60min. Other than that, we would just be out skiing on Sunday and the early afternoon of Saturday. Weekdays are generally racing from work to various activities but Friday nights are open!

Looking forward to seeing you if plans work out! I can't believe how quickly this month is marching on!! Take Care, Ariane

Hi Trevorino et al! Terrific that Sun Peaks trip is still on. Looking at everyone's schedules, to the extent that I know them, it would seem that a visit, for us, would be best over Friday, January 27th, to stay the night, and then head back to Penticton on Saturday, when most of you will be back on the slopes again. Grogg, not sure when you and Lurch are planning to arrive at Sun Pealks, but if the offer of sharing a room with you folks is still on and timing works, that would be great. As well, should we think of a pot-luck? If so, let us know what we might bring for the supper table. Again, as soon as I hear from you, we'll plan accordingly.

Ariane, do you have any idea when you will be at Sun Peaks on Saturday? Perhaps we can arrange to see you and Doug and the lads for a bite of lunch or a coffee, depending on your timing and ski schedule. Sarge, are you thinking of coming up? Talk soon. Travel safely, Trevorino, and love to Teens. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hi Parizzio, Sounds like you folks are having are having just too much fun.
Are you sure that you are playing bridge? Sorry to have missed Tuesday's
game but only arrived home on Wednesday and I don't think that I'll be able
to make it next Wed. either since my sis doesn't leave until Thursday. Then
I should be back into the action! Ta ta my friend, Olly

Thanks for the super email. I'm afraid my typing is the "pits" so can't reply with that long an email as it takes me foreever. We miss you both very much and look forward to getting together when we're back after Feb 17th. I am in full agreement with Corinne re going south where warm in the winter months.  You'll have to come visit us here.

Although it is warmer here than Penticton even in Sedona I'm planning for trips down south America. Maybe March/April, Nov/Dec and got something tentative with a friend from my Yosemite backpack to do Jan 2018!! I'm still biking although not the opportunities here as in Penticton. Rides about 1.5 hours is about it and not many of those. That Naramata real estate prospect sounds good. Keep up the good work with the marriage ventures. I am missing my adventure girl Kelsey who went back last week to Pocatello. Had some fun climbing with her. Anyway must go for now. Keep happy and having fun. See you both soon hugs from Gill and Phil

Hello Jack-Rabbit Slims and Fillipo! Is The Toothless Wonder now a thing of the past? I sent along the snaps of Kathy so I hope you received them. We saw her at the PAG opening this past Friday night and she mentioned that the Peru trip just didn't gel, everyone's schedules and all. Too bad but I'm sure you'll manage something in the not too, too distant future. Of course, we miss your congenial company and look forward to your return in February. Lady Dar won't be around to welcome you home, unfortunately, as she'll be in Winnipeg, for a few weeks, to see her parents and give her brother, George, a bit of a break in helping out with Dusty, as well as with post-op care for Rosita, after her minor tear-duct surgery.

Trust you are both well. You sound very busy so imagine you are. Sorry I've not been in touch sooner.
Fondestos from Lady Dar, at Oasis, on an errand this morning, wishing, I'm sure, it was a real oasis in the desert, somewhere warm! All the very best to you both. Travel safely and take care of each other and your new dental work! Cheers, Patrizzio!
