Wildfires, Climate Change and The Cannery Brewerey Nachos Blues: Thursday, November 1st!

This morning Rosita helped me ready almost four full trays of cherries for dehydrator. Bill Sliva gave me two large bags of frozen cherries yesterday after we had finished picking almost 250 pounds of Golden Delicious apples. They turned out fabulously and anyone who likes dried chips better hurry up and arrive as Rosie-the-Riveter really likes them and is consuming them at an alarming pace! We are off to Cannery Brewing for nachos and beer, this evening, before we attend a lecture on Wildfires and Climate Change at the Shatford. "Cousin" Michelle Dunn and her amore, Antonio, asked if we'd be interested in meeting at Cannery so I assume we'll stroll down.

Well Marlo went to CT Scan this week & then had a very positive meeting with Doc. Pitz. The breast tumour is smaller once again & CT scan was good news all around on bones & the Liver # is still normal at 8. The decision from the cancer Doc is he feels that chemo can end at 6th round of sessions or now! Does not feel that a 7th or 8th session is necessary(could have gone to 8).

Marlo will continue hormone treatments & will receive an additional hormone (3rd) taken daily by pill. She does still receive the others but on reduced frequency (every third week it appears for now). This is very good news & a big turn around from six months ago. Her energy levels are up & so is her appetite. However, she is feeling a bit of a touch of flu yesterday & today. Some very good news!

Also just a note Carly is officially the Manager of the VG restaurant & bar at the Fairmont Hotel. Big raise with parking pass (with plug) at car park attached to hotel. Started her at same pay level as the departing Manager. Good news for her as well! George Thanks Mom This is all just wonderful and I needed some good news Love ayn

Hello Patrick: I have a new email address. Please forward this email to the “Bridge” group. CAROL CLEVELANDHi Carolina! Have changed your address. Are you planning on coming on Monday? Let me know and we'll plan accordingly. Thanks and Cheers, Patrizzio! Is it possible for me to catch a ride with you on Monday? If so I could be at your place at 6:00, Carol Thank you for thinking of me and yes everything went well.Just came home from my check up and doc was pleased. Thinking of playing on Monday if you need me. Greetings to all on Burnstreet. Cheers, Jos

Hi Delayed Action Man! In fact, you did send earlier missive along so thanks. Picked almost 250 pounds of Golden Delicious apples yesterday. They turned out fabulously in dehydrator so you'd better hurry up and claim some as Rosie-the-Riveter really likes them and is consuming them at an alarming pace! If you'd like a bag or box you jet-setters are more than welcome so pop by whenever in town! Fondestos from Lady Dar and my more than able assistant Rosita! Cheers, Patrizzio!

Big Red how are you and Lady Corrine doing? All is well here in Everett as we go through this fall activities. Coby at Western Washington University, Ryan playing dual sports and robotics, all while remodeling our cabin & home I have to come to work to rest. We are excited about being grandparents and happy for Alex & Samantha on their new journey. I love the fact that Pierre has found a passion for electronics and driving towards a degree which will yield him a nice career. Take care and cheers!!

Hi Melvinator! Grand to hear from you and know all goes so very well in Everett. Hard to believe Coby is already attending university and that Ryan will soon be your supervisor at Boeing! I understand about you having to go to work to relax!!!! We certainly share your enthusiasm for coming grandchild. As well, soon-to-be Great Grandmother Rosita has been here since just after our Canadian Thanksgiving. She flew back with Chloë who was back in Winnipeg for the holiday to visit with Marlo. Not sure if you know she was diagnosed with bone cancer in July, although results of latest tests are very good so everyone is thankful for that, of course. Have really been enjoying having Clarisse around and she is playing bridge with all our regular friends and teaching them a thing or two! Fondestos from Lady Dar and Rosita to you and Amy! Cheers, Big Red/Patrizzio!
Dear Patrick Looks like you and Corinne enjoyed a terrific weekend -- what an AGM I need to pick more organizations like this. Anyways we are now home and sadly lots of our friends are down and injured--my dearest friend Diane has had gall bladder surgery. my highschool mate in Edmonton is awaiting results from a lumpectomy--sincerely hope it is not severe cancer and then our coach friend Don who suffered a stroke is now in Crofton Manor in an independent apartment but he is not making alot of sense and Ron Jobe is suffering with bad leg pain and vertigo. It is not the same as it wa sin the old days when we celebrate Halloween together.

I did some Halloween baking and dropped off my stuff to the Education Library, nephew, Don, Diane and neighbors. We have a lovely Asian family next door -- husband wife and two little kids so nice to have a family. As it turns out he is a mathematician did a post-doc at Princeton and is teaching at UBC. Our son Eric was expecting to get his Visa and start work this past Monday--at long last he was supposed to start August 22. John is in Bophal India working on his project.

Got a nice email from Don Hamilton--I will try to connect with him once I am in Victoria Nov. 18 and 19th. We will go to the Island to help Coin's mom and then go to Victoria. Another thing I forgot to ask you about was did you know Harry Newsom or Gerald Brown--Manitoban school librarians and then Harry came to BC?? Going to a launch tomorrow of Storybooks Canada an open access website that Bonnie Norton has been working on. I am looking forward to it. Also have a Big Sisters Gala to attend at the Hotel Vancouver--not sure I know what I am going to wear. It is always a great event. Please tell Corinne to call us. Best to you always and lots of hugs--hello to Rosita --what a cook. Jo-Anne

Hi Marps! Glad you enjoyed the card. Sorry to hear about all the surgeries and declines of various friends but that is countered by the on-going good news regarding Eric and John. Close friends, John and Jean Anderson, [John was in Faculty of Education at U Vic. Before going there he worked at UBC, for a year or so, in what was left of ERIBC after it was disbanded when NDP lost election!], know Don and attended his 80th birthday party, I believe. They both dock their boats at same marina as well. Please say hello and send best wishes if you do connect. I only knew Harry Newsom as the Director of the Thompson-Nicola Regional Library District, out of Kamloops. We visited there on our Library School field trip in 1975. I think I only knew Gerry Brown from CLA conferences.

Had a message from Janet and she included a snap of her Halloween cookies. What great confections! Especially liked the gruesome fingers while mummy, bat and cat were adorable! On Halloween, 47 years ago, I met Lady Dar in Winnipeg, at Champs Motor Inn, on Osborne, that afternoon. Gorgeous Fall day when we went in, separately, but over a foot of snow when we left pub at 6:00 pm. Ayn went trick-or-treating with Pamela, her youngest sister, much to her annoyance, at the time, I gather, spoiled youngest child that she was!
Thanks for tip, Colin, on Longbranch. However, guess I've become less inclined to bother with such releases. Too, too much hype for me as years tick themsolves off. Will pop by, at some point, and if there is any left, fine. Otherwise, I'll drink yours! Fondestos from Lady Dar and Rosita. Cheers, Patrizzio! Pics: Janet's shot of me and "friend" at Van Dusen and then her cookies!

Hi friends, Hi Cycle Farts, Kilian & I are planning to bike from Penticton to the Little Tunnel tomorrow and wanted to include you in our plan! If you wish, please join us! We will meet at the Summerland IGA at 9:00am, then at the Penticton HH at 9:20AM, then drive to Vancouver Place where the ride starts.
If however the weather is (really) bad, like big showers, we will not go, but the forecast is actually not that bad. I will let you know at 8:30 or so if it's a go. See you there! Cheers, Aarturos
Good afternoon,  Doug and I will pass on the bike ride.  We have a bunch of stuff that needs to be done at home on Friday, and want to get it out of the way.  Have a good ride, and we will see you on Monday! Hanneke
