Hi Patrick, If you are still looking for fire wood someone has red-maple branches/logs. Call Donna All the Best Ed the hiker Hi Eduardo! Thanks for thinking of me. I called Donna and have arranged to pop by their place Sunday morning to see what I'm able to haul away in my car or else determine if I might have to ask Guillermo if he would help with his pick-up. At any rate, much appreciate the tip. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hi Patrick, I enjoyed MAC too, especially the scenery. The "road to Kelowna" looked a lot like Eastside Road to me. Meg was somewhat underwhelmed by the film. She likes films with important messages that change humanity. We couldn't stay to chat after the movie. The boys were at home waiting for us for dinner. I remember seeing Nicola Cavendish in the play "Shirley Valentine" in Calgary. She did a wonderful job of the role. I hear that she lives in Kaledan. First Market day tomorrow! Will you and Corinne be there? Meg and I are planning to go. Pam

Hello all, we are back in B.C. after a great week in Playa. We had never done an "all inclusive" resoert before, but the one we chose was great - the Gran Porto Real. The food was great, especially the meat fest at their Brazilian restaurant, and the grat breakfast omelets at the buffet. The bars offered margaritas, daquiris, mojitos, etc., and the house wine was great. One of the best parts of the stay was the location. We were right next to the main street in Playa, not out in some isolated location where seeing anthing meant a cab ride. Given all that plus a very friendly and helpful staff and a magnificent colonial style
building, we want to go back. Colin

Buen dia Patrick and Corinne ¿cómo está? Nostromos  bien! Sorry not to have been in touch sooner--but the very small tablet that Colin took with us--didn't work all that well.  There was internet but no hotel computer for guests to use. So I found UBC email very frustrating. I know Colin spent time sending out messages--he really has more patience than I do.

Colin and I had a wonderful time in Playa del Carmen.  Chichen Itza was amazing--way better than I had imagined and our tour guide was excellente!  The weather was hot except for yesterday our last day when it poured with rain-- a realy deluge.  Roads were like running rivers. The hotel was very grand. We visited Tulum and also took a day trip to Cozumel.  Ferry ride was lovely but we should have arranged a tour of the entire island and gone snorkeling.  Perhaps next time.  There are also more Mayan ruins at Coba and Uxmal that would be worth visiting.

At our hotel there were Spanish lessons offered every morning from 10-11.  Colin and I were the only ones to show up so we had Eric the instructor all to ourselves.  He was very patient and a genuinely lovely young man.  Then of course there was aquasize at noon with Cezar!  We didn't have time to take advantage of the snorkeling times, or bike outings or kayak outings.  Just too much else to do --like sit and look out on the water.  Every night there was a different dance and musical performance.  All of them impressed me--loved the dancers and the music and sitting outside in the balmy weather was lovely--especially sipping margheritas. I suspect this resort was like a "land cruise" so to speak.  Very decadent and too much of a good thing.

Sadly the vacation ended with a real scare.  On our way home --late late last night Colin seemed to have a fainting spell on the plane--half way into the flight. Of course heart attack came to mind--however, after an exhaustive examination at VGH it looks like he was just dehydrated.  However, it certainly freaked me and him out.  Thankfully there was a doctor on board the plane so we were indeed fortunate. He is resting now but is exhausted.  I now have been up all night and not sure what to think.

We are supposed to go to help Colin's mother in Qualicum on Saturday --have to see how Colin is feeling later today. Take care for now and enjoy the weekend. Jo-Anne

Hello Playa del Carmenites! Very pleased, indeed, that you had such a wonderful, wonderful time and enjoyed both the resort and the sightseeing but rather distressed to hear about the obviously upsetting fainting spell. Glad all it turned out to be simply dehydration but quite a scare, under any circumstances, let alone on a plane! Given this, did you manage a trip to Qualicum? Trust this missive finds you back to normal, Colin. Take care of each other. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Tummler and Corinne, Hope this finds you well. Thanks for your Easter greetings to Japan – ow Rome. We return the sentiments. Apologies for the spotty communication: no excuses but plenty of reasons. Back in the western world, as they say. Maybe back a century or two as well.

Fought the charming mysteries of Italian public transport from the airport on the train and tram. It was all one might expect: clunky, charming, hilarious, full of character. A stark contrast to the uber-efficiency and somber silence of Japanese trains.

B&B is in the heart of Trastavere - an older gritty part of Rome, across the river from the Jewish Ghetto. It is just what you might imagine: up a narrow shiny buckling cobble stone street. High sand coloured walls on both sides. The giant door has no signage, the stairs are barely lit and made of marble. The establishment is cobbled together like a New England house - high ceilings, old wood furniture, ornate flowered wall paper and curtains with no window behind them. The proprietor is all you might have wished for: passionate, amusing, playful - full of life. 'It is a sad anda beautiful world' Internet is a little Italian: - 'Justa waita una momento'. More shortly. Love to all, G&J

Hello World Travelers! Trust you are both well. Must away as dinner is about to be served. Take care of each other. Travel safely. Cheers, Patrizzio!
