CHBA South Okanagan 23rd Annual Home and Reno Show Blues: Saturday, March 3rd!

Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could do only a little. -Edmund Burke, statesman and writer (1729-1797)

Lazy sleep-in after a fairly late night watching Darkest Hour. Quite taken with Gary Oldman's portrayal of Prime Minister Churchill as "Nazi Germany swept across Western Europe, threatening to defeat the United Kingdom during World War II, leading to friction at the highest levels of government between those who would make a peace treaty with Hitler and Churchill who refused." Once we are fully awake we'll head out to the Home and Reno Show to feed Lady Dar's solarium fix! Must away as my breakfast needs preparing!

Just after 11:00 am we headed out to the Home and Reno Show at the Trade and Convention Centre. Lady Dar was interested in looking for ideas/solutions to her latest project: pushing out the living room into the front garden and extending teh existing patio. She had gone to a similar exhibition in Vancouver the previous weekend so had a reasonably good idea of what she would like to do. Not as many vendors selling the sort of product/services she'd already talked to but we did see some French doors which we both liked. Other than that there were only two other booths of real interest. First was California-Classics, offering quite an innovative program. When one joins their Overwintering Program, company collects your plant in October and cares for it all winter in climate controlled greenhouses. In the spring, they bring it back. Pot/plant size determines monthly overwintering fee which includes pick-up and return. I'd like to try a lemon tree so will probably give them a call, at some point.

Other booth was AlleyCATS Alliance, "a Registered Charity dedicated to providing rescue, rehabilitation, medical care & adoption to feral and orphaned cats & kittens throughout the Okanagan Valley." Chloë had two cats come in through our cat doors while we were away and we were concerned that they were feral and icy temperatures had driven them to seek shelter and food where they could. SPCA had suggested she contact them so we wanted to ask a few questions. We noticed that there were three cats, in cages, beside booth, available for adoption. One of them, Sam, could have been Duke's twin, although he was slightly larger. Unbelievably placid he didn't seem to mind being passed form one person to another, not fussing in the slightest when a new person cradles him. If we didn't already have Duke and Etta, I know we would have scoped him up. I do hope someone takes him by the end of the weekend.

Was close to 12:15 pm by the time we were ready to go and then, with a few errands to Canadian Tire, Rona and Safeway we were back home an hour or so later. Had a quick bite to eat, started a fire for Lady Dar, suited up and left the house at just after 2:00 pm. Bit chillier than yesterday and although wind speed was the same, at 14kph, as yesterday, it was out of the North East. Streets were quite nicely cleaned by yesterday's rain so I was happy to ride under such conditions. Had also melted all the ice and snow on road to the Tennis Club so it was great to see that this was the case.

Wasn't quite sure where I'd make for today but once I'd settled into the rhythm  of the ride decided I'd just stick it out on the Riverside, Power, Westminster loop, not wanting to fight the mean wind if I decided to head to Naramatia or buck it on the way back from OK Falls. Also, wasn't sure how the shoulders on those roads would be. Still loads of gravel and grit here in town in most of the curb lanes. Anyway, traffic was very light so it was pleasant enough, if not particularly exciting and I settled in to chalk off the miles. Went well enough although with 20 km still on the clock my feet started to feel like ice-cubes although my Lobsters kept my hands comfortably warm. Once I had 46 km on my trusty odometre I made for home, enjoying having the wind at my back as I pedaled up Ellis. Pleased to be home but even more pleased that streets were so dry that my bike had picked up but little, if any grit. Cheers! Map and Stats for ride:

Hello Bridge friends, I will NOT be able to join you for Bridge Wednesday due to a family member’s death/funeral. Will be back for Thursday, March 15. Hugs, Olly Dear Olly! Deepest condolences from Corinne, Chloë and I. Take care of yourself and we'll see you when you are back. Much love and affection, Patrick.
Great fun last Wednesday night! Thank you for hosting Bridge. It's great to have you back in town 👍😎 Pamela

Patrick, Much as I would like to join you for Bridge this week I already have a commitment for that night. On another note, are you and Corinne free to join us for Happy Hour at our house starting at 4 on Friday, March 16? Enjoy the Oscars tomorrow night😎 Pamela Hi Spamela! Sorry you won't be joining us for bridge next week but we'd be delighted to attend your Happy Hour on March 16th! Any particular occasion? What can we contribute? As it turns out, good friends from Vancouver just sold their house there so will be in Penticton for this coming week, looking for a place here. Both are RCMP members and have been transferred to the Penticton Detachment, moving in April. Anyway, they will be coming to the Oscar Party, with their two little girls so the bash should be an even livelier gathering. Fondestos from Lady Dar and Chloë, watching Mudbound. I saw it last Thursday, by myself, as they were too sleepy. Cheers, Patrizzio! Re Happy Hour...no special occasion. Just time to get people together👍😊 Pam Fabuloso!

Warm winter wishes to my favourite valentine! The snow just keeps coming and I think there is a reason my Christmas tree is still up here at Sun Peaks!! I think spring is coming because it is starting to rain at lower elevations in Kamloops. Another month of skiing and then time to move onto other things. Love to you both, Ariane Hi Christmas Tree Woman! I'm glad your tree is still up as I just managed to go through our Chrismas cards, (many of which arrived after we left for Tinsel Town), a few days ago and wanted to thank you for the wonderful pictures of Damian and Corben! What fine looking young gentlemen! Must away as Lady Dar has ordered a fire! All the best to you and your lads. Cheers, Patrizzio!
