Lady Dar Sings the PGH Info Desk Blues: Friday, August 4th!

Once upon a time a man whose ax was missing suspected his neighbor's son. The boy walked like a thief, looked like a thief, and spoke like a thief. But the man found his ax while digging in the valley, and the next time he saw his neighbor's son, the boy walked, looked and spoke like any other child. -Lao-tzu, philosopher (6th century BCE)

Lady Dar is back at PGH this morning so she was up at just after 6:00 am to ready herself to be there at 8:00 am to work on the Info Desk. Last night, before going to bed to read, I forgot to open our bedroom and living room windows and found it a bit stuffy when I awoke around 2:30 am. Noticed Miss Etta sleeping on the armchair in the living room but no sign of Duke. I had not "barricaded" the cat door to the patio so decided to see if it was still locked. Quickly discovered that this was certainly not the case. Houdini is simply too, too clever for us and the sliding lock at the bottom of the swinging door obviously presents little if any problem for him. At any rate, I assumed he would come back inside when it suited him and he did just this, around 4:30 am as I heard the bell on his collar when he leapt onto the bed at Lady Dar's feet.

Heavy smoke cover this morning, than yesterday, for all of the Okanagan, according to every radio forecast. Air quality is manageable, here in Penticton, as opposed to Kamloops where the city is experiencing the highest level of pollution in recorded history. On the Air Quality Index, from 1-10, the rating there stands at 48!

I'll be there by 5 if not before!! 😬Hi Speedster and Tinsel Town, et al! Great! I understood that you were not coming until Sunday so the kittens will be delighted to know you are arriving sooner!

Have enclosed a snap of the two zucchini Gardener Woman harvested a day or so ago. Probably won't need to buy any tomatoes at Saturday's Farmers' Market as planter on back patio is loaded! Corn is shooting for the sky and melons are doing very well, to boot. Now have a bottle of fresh basil infused olive oil after I heard about making your own, on a radio show, a week or so ago. Simply take a mason jar and fill it with olive oil, adding fresh basil. Seal lid and leave it on a sunny windowsill for a day and then Voilà! I drained off olive oil and used the soggy basil leaves to fry up my oniones, diced orange pepper and celery. Once vegetables were nicely done I added five or six soda crackers, (Aging nicely since you left them with us a year or more ago, Chloë!), for bulk before stirring in three eggs. Had added some green salsa I found in fridge, earlier in process and then topped concoction with the remains of a very tasty, very spicy fig chutney made by Flamin' and JT! Scrumptiosity indeed!

Nana was to have lunch with Michelle Dunn after her shift at PTG is over at noon so I must away as I needs must clear some of the shelves in "her" bedroom closet that she inevitably encroaches upon, not wanting to allow me even the few spaces I was originally allotted! Love and Cheers, Dad!

PS: News Update! Michelle cancelled luncheon date as she went into Vancouver to see her daughter and help her pick out drapes. Just after Info Desk Woman returned, Mary Lee popped by to present us with gorgeous peaches and yummy cherries she'd just picked from her friend's place in Summerland! Mighty Mite will return in about an hour to collect Lady Dar to take her to the Mah Jong game at Sandy Hirth's place. [Sandy is a Flatlander with Lady Dar and Norbert, her husband often hikes with group I've joined.] They have a pool so Nana is in seventh heaven! Love and Cheers, Dad!

Pics: New carrier, PetMobile, used to take Etta and Duke to SPCA yesterday. Tomatoes in patio planter; corn; melon; wonderful cherries and peaches from Mary Lee! First zucchini! [I know Master Gardeners in group spit on zucchini but these are our first "babies" and we are ever so proud of them!] Unverified evidence of vicious dog attack! Marriage Officiant at Little Shuswap, performing ceremony for Leah and Mason.

Thank You for the update Patrizzio. I may meet up with you and Lady Dar at your home and drive up to Pam’s house. Haven’t got a clue where that may be!!!!!!!!!! Hopefully will see you soon. I went for an extended hike up in Midway yesterday. Quite an adventure. Luckily We were in trees so hot super scorching weather. When we stopped at the little pub for a beer at the end of our hike………..the thought we were NUTS. Cheereo and have a fantastic day………….Hugs to all……….Hildegard Von Bingen. 😊😊😊

Hi Von Bingen! Glad to hear that your hike went so well, given scorching sun. You are more than welcome to drive to Pam's place with us. As well, please consider staying overnight if d suits you. We've plenty of room. Anyway, you can decide closer to the date. Hope we'll hike together in the not too, too distant future, Von Bingen! Until then, Fondestos and Cheers, Patrizzio!

That little imp. Maybe he has a girl friend and needs his freedom Would you and Lady Dar be up to coming for a BBQ on Thursday evening. No fuss. No muss. Too hot to be culinarily creative. We would love to sit and enjoy your company. If your available. How about six for drinks and appies with dinner Round seven. Dame Judith Hi Dame Judith! Thank you for the more than lovely invitation but, unfortunately for us, we have to decline your wonderful offer as we have three good friends from Vancouver arriving that afternoon. Paul and Joan Whitney and Liisa Tella. Paul was the former City Librarian and a colleague of Lady Dar's at VPL, while I worked with Joan at UBC. We met Liisa through them. It goes without saying that, otherwise, we'd have been camping out on your doorstep by 5:00 pm, the day before!

All this to say that perhaps we can turn the tables on you two, so to speak, so please consider coming for appetizers and dinner at our place, same time, as you suggested, but here at The Burns Street Gin Joint and Hot Sheets Hotel. I know Paul would love to meet Kevin as he is in on the Dubh Glas cask and attends the VWF Dram Come True. Both are keen, generous supporters of the VWF and Paul is also on the Board. In fact, after they leave our place, Saturday morning, they will stay at Tinhorn Creek for two or three nights. The winery is a long-time supporter of the Festival and for the last few years the Whitney's have bought the stay there at the Silent Auction held during Dram. They have invited us for dinner on Sunday, at Miradoro. Anyway, we'd love to have you come to our place and will most certainly take a rain cheque on your offer, if that is okay, whatever you decide. Let me know what you think and we'll plan accordingly.

I spent a couple of hours putting up some brackets on the uprights we built into the bike lockers so that I can store the considerable amount of lumber I seem to have accumulated/scrounged. Just as I as finishing re-sorting and re-piling what I wanted to keep, Chloë pulled into the back driveway, around 5:00 pm. Once I'd showered and changed we sat on the back patio sipping wine and planning the rest of the weekend.

Fondestos from BBQ Woman just finishing off grilling the sausages and zucchini, from our own garden, we are having for dinner. Chloë and Lady Dar will be looking at a number of houses, starting at 2:00 pm tomorrow as we signed the necessary papers to put the Loft up for sale, this past weekend, when we saw her in Vernon, on Sunday, at the home of her very close friends who just moved there, on way back from Little Shuswap. If all goes according to plan, the place will be shown as of August 14th, so who knows!

After dinner we watched the first episode of Ozark with Jason Bateman and Laura Linney Chloë knew about it and we all enjoyed it immensely. Bit of a variation on Breaking Bad. I wanted to watch next episode but The Sisterhood were too tired. Cheers, Patrizzio! Pic: Bad Bad Boy! Imp indeed but probably more Devil Cat than anything else!

We would be delighted to let you turn the table on us. Please tell me what I can bring, other than my dear husband and some vino. What time should we come calling. I will bring my day timer with me and we can find a date to wine and dine you two. It will have to be in Sept. as we are leaving with our grandson next week for Drumheller and other exciting locations. Judi

Hi Turn The Tables People! Delighted that you can join us. Anytime after 6:00 pm and if you would like to bring your "infamous" salad that would be wonderful indeed! Look forward to seeing you next Thursday. Fondestos from Lady Dar and Chloë to you both. Cheers, Patrizzio! You've got it Judi Hi Judi, if you could come around 6pm that would be great. And a salad for the dinner for 7 would be wonderful. Thanks Corinne

Hello Indentured Retiree!! Trust you are both well. Paul and Joan Whitney and Liisa Tella, whom we met through them, arrive this coming Thursday, for a couple of nights. They have already "ordered" a couple of wine-tasting outings!
Fondestos from Lady Dar and Chloë, up for the weekend, to you both. Cheers, Patrizzio!
